  1. Got no interest in the politics thread whatsoever but some find it interesting so get on with it, I try to post what I've been on with during the day or the garden and hobbies threads but not everyone likes those threads, the historical side of Notts should have more posts I think because they are of members memories, I don't know what the answer is to creating more posts, we need to attract new members how we do that I don't have a clue, maybe a "welcome to new members" section and encourage them to post their thoughts and memories Rog

  6. Been to Melton Mowbray market today, not a great deal going on, a lot of empty stalls in the covered "tat" market and not many people about, the street market was worse half the stalls missing compared to two years ago, I got talking to a lady who owns the Mrs B's cafe and she said today the market is a lot bigger to what it has been of late so it must have been very poor, shops wise once again a lot have closed down and now empty, there are however plenty of Vape shops, barbers, mobile phone repair shops and a smattering of the usual charity shops, I did see one butchers shop with a queue out

  7. Off what? You rarely participate so why on earth would you read it? The only reason someone dislikes something they read is when they don't agree with it, if they do they will not object. Perhaps Col's sometimes perceptive and erudite observations are a little too close for comfort to dyed in the wool Tory supporters? Maybe defending one of the most disgraceful parliaments in living memory with not go down well with others. It's been said before that we all have memories but they are finite and once recalled can only become repetitive, and quickly kill this forum

  10. There’s a market every Monday in Bakewell Rog. It was excellent last time we visited but that would be over 5 years ago. Bakewell’s a nice town to visit in any case but I was talking on Saturday to someone who lives there who said it’s become very ‘touristy’. There used to be ample parking on the water meadows, just a short walk from the town centre.

  11. My favourite pork pies now are from Mike Malony of Tuxford. I used to get them from Gonalston Farm Shop but since that burned down it means a 40 mile round trip. That’s a long way just for a pork pie!

  12. Not forgetting CT you have to be a member to look at the political thing I think so someone just browsing wouldn't have access to the thread anyway, I can however confirm that that "setting a preference to ignore a particular person" does work Rog

  14. We used to regularly go to Melton market on a Tuesday but haven’t been for some years. Back then it was thriving and interesting place to walk round. We always came back with a Stilton cheese and a pie from the Olde Pie Shoppe. A farmer friend used to help at the sheep auction on market day.

  15. Yes, I’ve just been re-reading that book. It mentions quite a few people I once knew, now no longer with us. With the possible closure of the airfield to build a massive housing estate there’s a Facebook section filled with the opinions of the objectors.’Save Nottingham City (Tollerton) Airfield)’. I think it’s inevitable that the development will go ahead. When I look online at ‘Flight Radar’ the usage of the airfield is very low and my old alma mater, the Sherwood Flying Club, has an outdated website and isn’t the buzzing place it used to be. I suppose the cost of private flying is out of re

  16. I like the historically themed posts the best. Phil, I did get the book about Tollerton Aerodrome, very interesting so thanks for that.

  17. Off the field Forest are starting to get embroiled in a row about VAR, the standard of refereeing and the allegiances of the officials assigned to games. Mr Marinakis has recently employed ex Premier referee Mark Clattenburg to help “understand” refereeing decisions that have gone against the Reds. A strange appointment to say the least and one that could easily blow up in their faces. I think Forest's owner should employ a psychologist. Remember their appeal against their 4 point deduction under FFP rules is due to be announced this week. I can't believe all this high profile bell

  18. Oz, there are several ... I knew some and and looked up others. 'Writing on the wall' written by Sam Smith for the Bond film 'Spectre'. The title is from Daniel chapter 3 'Hallelujah' written by Leonard Cohen, has some strange lyrics, but it is thought to refer to David the Psalmist playing music for King Saul. Also the song seems to mention the cutting of Samson's hair by Delilah! 'Where is the love' by the Black eyed peas mentions 'turning the other cheek' which are Jesus' words about how Christians are supposed to treat people who treat them badly
