  1. He was mugged for his takings a couple of months ago, he’s 70. While he was in hospital for damaged ribs he was found to have cancer. I believe he’s out now.
  2. In the 60’s you could get similar cards with Brooke Bond(?) tea. I remember looking for them between the outer box & inner wrapper. Anyone else?
  3. After forgetting my 19th anniversary I made sure I wouldn't forget the 20th so I had the date tattooed mirror image under my upper left arm. Now at the end of May, beginning of June I get out of the shower, hold my arm up to the mirror on the bathroom cabinet and my memory is jogged. 100% success rate so far!
  4. Nicked this off NottsMan’s FB site. If you do FB he’s worth a follow, his music & modern stuff isn’t to my taste but he posts some good “old stuff”
  5. I know he's a bit Marmite, but I think Boycott should be on the selection committee.
  6. I've had rheumatoid arthritis over half of my life. The ONLY thing that has completely made it go away is cannabis.
  7. Looks a bit spaghetti ish in the background.
  8. I know some on here like old motors so this may be of interest. It’s on the best channel on tv, Talking Pictures, today at 11.05am and as a bonus it’s in Notts. 11:05 GLIMPSES: WHIT MONDAY MOTOR RACING MEETING: Late 1950s Classic Car Race meeting at Gamston airfield in Nottinghamshire. A must see for all classic car enthusiasts!
  9. Copied & pasted from Historic Nottingham's Twitter feed fighting for 3 1/2 years just to get to this position. 2nd time it's been damaged. Not an easy patch-up job. Internal damage too. Oriel window & turret will have to come down piece by piece. Will take months to sort & no idea when it's starts. Also, no progress re bollards & pavement changes needed to stop lorries doing this a 3rd time. Hope gets sorted asap
  10. This^^^ Then add in a percentage, sometimes high, sometimes low, of pupils with English not their first language to exacerbate the problem. Schools concentrating on inclusivity and diversity instead of teaching, all men are NOT created equally.
  11. Someone on FB is asking after the Axeman, there are some interesting replies. Here's the link,
  12. Just phoned him as I can't make Ilkeston this weekend (missus had arranged something Sat night). He can't remember his password for NS so I mailed him the link for this thread & he managed to open it. Password retrieval would be beyond him but someone is round at his on Sunday who should be able to sort it. It's a pity he's not computer literate as he worked all over Nottingam in the 40's & 50's & would have a wealth of stuff for this site. Cheers, Alan.
  13. Thanks for the reply Richard. Jack's my old man, at 91 years old he only uses a computer for Sky Sports but as I'm popping down for Ilson fair this weekend (from Newcastle) I'll ask him and report back, Cheers, Alan.
  14. Cute video of Goose Fair in the 70's. Spotted a @letsavagoo balloon in the first minute.
  15. Anyone else watch http://talkingpicturestv.co.uk/ ? Saw a sixties documentary "Terminus" about Waterloo station last night, http://player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-terminus-1961/ Rivetting stuff.
  16. I put that up in the Nottingham videos thread. I share them from NottsMan on Facebook so if you're on FB follow him 'cos he's got loads of old vids on there. He's got a dodgy taste in music, but hey ho you can't have everything.
  17. Now 50% of school leavers attend university, standards have plummeted. Can anyone explain this? "Your" instead of "you're" is a pet hate of mine, but "of" replacing "have" drives me to distraction!
  18. I know lots of people on here think Facebook is the work of the devil, but for those on it take a look at NottsMan. His taste in music certainly doesn't match mine but he searches out some cracking pics & videos. This one's Lost Pubs.
  19. This popped up on FB. Thought it might be of interest.
