  1. We had our school swimming lessons there. The changing cubicles were on each side of the pool and it was blumming cold. Or, more probably, I was blummin mardy. I used to whinge that I was cold and the teacher would let me go and get changed early. I actually learned to swim thirty years later.
  2. Well, this morning I noticed that the old laptop had stopped flashing red lights on the front. Then amazed to see that the battery icon shows 'fully charged'. It`s been as dead as a doornail for months. Resurrection? So it wasn`t going to blow up, then. Not yet anyway.
  3. 15 years - but it hasn`t been off the drive for 3 years. Think the battery might be flat now.
  4. Thanks Mick - never thought of that.
  5. Yes - it`s a Dell! How`d you know? I wish I were clever like that. I`ll do that then.
  6. Thanks for the advice - Yes the battery is still in but it`s been dead for months and the red light has just started this morning. Perhaps I should take it to a repair shop and get a new battery fitted.
  7. Advice needed. This morning the light on the front of my laptop is flashing. It`s the little light that shows that it`s plugged in. The battery is dead so I have to have it plugged into the mains. It`s flashing red and white - four red flashes and then one white. It`s working as normal. Is it broken? Is it safe? Is it going to blow up? Have I got to get a new one? I know that I`m IT-dim so would welcome advice - - please.
  8. Many years ago when I was a trainee at the EMEB I heard that the Board were getting a Computer! Wasn`t quite sure what a Computer was but apparently it was going to do all the HQ accounting, making loads of us not needed any more. I got the chance to get in on the ground floor to train to be a Computer person so I went to my head of department to request the transfer. He shook his head at me and smiled. "Bad career move, Miss G. Stay with traditional accountancy. Computers are a flash in the pan." So I did. I often wonder where my 'career' would have taken me. Hey ho! Forks in the road, eh
  9. An early memory was having to live upstairs when the Trent flooded our house in 1947. Food was delivered by boat - would it have been the Red Cross? There was no water laid on upstairs so water must have been delivered I suppose. I remember seeing swans swimming along the yard. I have no memory of how we managed for toilets! Perhaps as well - - There must have been a terrible mess to clear up when the water went down but nobody was moved out, I don`t think. And the space under the floorboards must have been full of water as well.
  10. I went to see Roy Orbison at the Odeon and the supporting act was The Beatles. As was common in those days a lot of us left autograph albums etc at the box office to be signed and picked up later. After the show a crowd of us went round the back to shout for the Beatles to come out and they appeared on a sort of balcony. They were laughing and waving and the crowd was cheering and screaming then they did something horrible - I think it was John! He had a pile of albums and autograph books and he just laughed and threw them over the balcony and everybody was snatching and grabbing at them as
  11. A teenage neighbour of ours was given 'community service' a few years ago. What a fiasco! She was picked up in the morning by a probation officer in a car and taken to a park where she was put to painting railings. She made a very poor job of it (according to her) as she was trying not to get paint on her hands. She was brought back at teatime in a taxi and picked up the next morning. This went on for a week and then fizzled out. Cor - that`ll teach her, eh?
  12. Sounds interesting - OH has sensitive skin so it might be useful. I`ve never seen it. Where do you buy it? (Couldn`t listen to the video as my sound is on the blink.)
  13. I went to the hairdresser to have my fringe cut today. The hairdresser shampood me and struggled to get the comb through me mop. I said, 'It`s a bit luggy isn`t it?' and she looked rather uneasy and peered at my head. She didn`t know what 'luggy' meant and thought I`d meant 'buggy'. (She came from dahn sarf.)

    Omar Sharif

That gradual entrance in 'Lawrence of Arabia.' so-o-o-o atmospheric.
  15. My fave Beatle - George Harrison
  16. Thanks Dave - I`ve not been watching it recently but I`ll switch on tonight.
  17. Crikey yes! Takes yer back, eh? Thanks Dave. And look at the lads` outfits - nice jackets and ties - and neat, short haircuts.
  18. Yeah! Amazing stuff Margie. All those whirling meringues! Not like my home-made spinning out skirt, I wonder what dance they were doing - - quickstep or something?
  19. Oh wow! I`m there! Pony tail, spinning-out skirt me Mam made for me. Lipstick put on in the toilet cos Dad wouldn`t let me wear make-up. Warm orange squash in the interval. Dancing with yer mate and peeping at the lads lined up at the side of the hall. Oh, brilliant! Still got a pony tail.
  20. Big fan! Remember jiving to Peggy Sue at the youth club. Wish I had Sky!
  21. I went out this morning to get the 9.30am bus but when it arrived the driver said I was 'twirly' so I had to pay. No big deal, only £1.80. But I was irritated when he pulled into the NEXT STOP, cut his engine and got out his newspaper and waited a good five minutes stationary because he was running early. <sigh>
  22. Thanks Notty, I`ve 'favourited' it to read at my leisure. Looks good.
  23. Oh wow! Middup`s of Woodborough! (number 19) My youth comes flooding back!
  24. When I tried to open the pictures at number 4 my computer froze and I had to switch off. When I switched back on the Nottstalgia page said it 'couldn`t be displayed'. It`s back now. (obviously). I daren`t try it again. Did I do something wrong? Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
  25. That worries me sometimes. I`ve several times seen unmarked vans zooming round scooping up charity bags left at the end of drives. Guess they`re sometimes the authorised collectors but it`s hard to tell.
