  1. The Rupert Davies version of Maigret is always on Talking Pictures TV (which I realise may not be visible in Oz). I've watched a few because I never saw it first time round. It's stood the test of time pretty well. It's also possible to see two more recent versions of Maigret. There's one with Michael Gambon from the early 90s which isn't too bad. But for me the pick of the Maigrets is Rowan Atkinson......yes, that one. If you haven't come across it, watch for them. Once you've got over the expectation of him pulling funny faces and making silly noises - which he doesn
  2. Man in a Suitcase. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/topic/4091-the-telly-again/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-414252
  3. I'm posting this on behalf of LizzieM It's a variation on the theme of Moon-Venus-Jupiter. They were taken on two consecutive evenings on the north coast of Jamaica.
  4. Don't think this has been mentioned before. Radford Road, Hyson Green.
  5. Not the greatest photo I've ever taken, but I got this on my phone camera by poking my head out of the window earlier this evening. The moon, and then Venus and Jupiter, just visible as silver dots.
  6. This, I'm pretty certain, shows the Marsden's in Long Eaton High Street, as mentioned by Ben.
  7. The building is still there today looking remarkably unchanged; except that it's now a cafe named the Wonky Teapot. https://goo.gl/maps/Yb3cSby54tFTktGU7
  8. By chance I came across this NEP feature about old police stations. https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/history/gallery/police-stations-of-the-past-2646209
  9. This is the official Notts County website showing those four goals. Impressive stuff. https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/2023/february/watch-southend-goals-210223/
  10. Back in the 80s there was a fashion for breweries to give a makeover and refit to long-standing, well-liked pubs and turn them into 'Fun Pubs'. I never knew anyone who liked them, or thought they were fun.
  11. And just in case anyone wondered..... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gingham
  12. It's mentioned a lot in this thread.
  13. They've been there since the early 2000s. Unfortunately the rest of the area is an architectural disaster.
  14. This. https://goo.gl/maps/bRXTNSMcSWYQA2jZ8 Previously known as Mansfield Arms; The Regent; Blueberry's; Ledgers, and various other names.
  15. If you look on the extreme left of the photo you can just see Y'S on the lower wall, which I assume is the end of Tiffany's.
  16. I’m pleased to be the bringer of good news. Trogg has replied to my email which I sent a few days ago. He had a few medical problems but is much improved now and expects to be back in action before too long. A quote from his message to me..... If Jill Sparrow gives me directions I will go for a coffee in the Pythagoras Tearoom in the Manning Holiday Camp
  17. Not sure where you're referring to. The nearest pub to Intercon/Tiffanys/Zhivagos was just to the left, and is still a pub today - https://goo.gl/maps/uc8PaYWX4YDRLnfS9 And further along Milton Street there was also the New Welbeck which was in one of these units. https://goo.gl/maps/Ag7cM1H2QtUhQFKfA
  18. In the midst of all the demolition someone seems to be apologising for it.
  19. The relevant location there shows Intercon, which is a name I'd forgotten. It gets quite a few mentions in old posts. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/search/?q=intercon&quick=1
  20. Got a notification about State Pension; increase of 10%. More than I expected.
  21. I don't think there was anything in particular. It was a boring, solid concrete wall around the outside of the building, and the nightclub was behind that wall. In fact if you look at the 3rd photo down in this link - from the mid -70s - there doesn't seem to be anything in that location. Looks like the nightclub was added later. https://westbridgfordwire.com/pictures-victoria-centre-team-unearths-50-years-of-memories/
  22. Unfortunately not. I've just sent an email to an address I have for him. We'll await a response.
  23. Sadly Van McCoy died of a heart attack in 1979 aged only 39, just four years after this record.
  24. It'll never catch on. Things have changed a bit since then. These days I believe that in order to qualify as a taxi driver you have to take a test to demonstrate that you have no idea how to drive on public roads. A reminder that Nottingham had its own car/motorbike industry back in those days; and why there's a Humber Road in Beeston. The factory closed in 1908.
