  1. Your wishes are actually being answered, after all these years. http://www.nottinghampost.com/Plans-second-stage-Nottingham-ring-road/story-22213640-detail/story.html
  2. Am I right in assuming the places on the list were "tin huts" in a back garden, or something similar? There were also the bigger concrete bunker-type shelters, some of which have survived. Two in West Bridgford that I'm aware of. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.928213,-1.121812,3a,75y,244.19h,86.66t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sdipBYnNDeKdm9i-fjlvLUQ!2e0?hl=en And one here which you can't really see, but it is there in amongst the bushes. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.936027,-1.120908,3a,75y,289.08h,90.21t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sf1xYDHjGQjK02Vq9uLudmA!2e0?hl=en
  3. DAVIDW, you are correct in the location of those roads ! I've checked on a map with names; and the geography fits with caves and split-levels. In 1911 a William Belshaw (occupation pavers labourer ) is living with wife Lydia Belshaw at 15 Water St,. Sneinton . 2 children with them , a William aged 4 and a newborn Edwin . Water Street was in the area of Lower Parliament Street where all the bus garages are now located. No caves there.
  4. Do you have the photo in digital form? - Or is it a real photo?
  5. Found an old photo taken from a similar position to one of mine. One building has survived, but the rest is totally different.
  6. Sounds like it might have been in the Broad Marsh/Narrow Marsh area. If you can post that photo it might help us identify the location.
  7. You can resize within Photobucket. When you select a particular photo in Photobucket, click on the Edit button here. You can then input whatever size you need.
  8. Evening Post..........Which is the thread that talks about what people used to have pinned to the wall in outside toilets?
  9. Rushcliffe do a similar "aren't we wonderful" publication.
  10. You'll get something stuffed through your letterbox.
  11. Can you see it here? I've zoomed in on 'Britain from Above' and hopefully it's pointing the right way. The Toll Bridge is on the right, and you can even see a trolley bus at the roundabout.
  12. Which raise the obvious subject.........isn't it time for another meet up. A proper one, not just a quick hello in the street.
  13. That has always been the case; if you don't tell DVLC that you are no longer the owner, you might get all kinds things ( such as speed camera fines for the new owner) coming to your address. ANPR has been in police traffic vehicles for many years; you only have to drive past one and they might stop you for something which the system flags up. eg no insurance.
  14. Cycling seems to be big business round here. http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11373&hl=cycling http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9971&page=2&hl=cycling#entry137333 http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10927&hl=cycling http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3716&hl=cycling#entry37637
  15. What was the building on the right, which I don't think I've ever seen before in any photos?
  16. If you live in The Park you are still in a world of gas lights.
  17. I'm pretty sure my mother went there in the 1930s, although I don't have any documents to confirm it. I might go along and see if they have any old photos.
  18. Put 'Nottingham' in the Location box here. http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/mysteryphotos/
  19. And here it is. This part of the line - with the Toll Bridge in the background - had gone before I ever appeared, but I remember travelling along Queen's Drive on buses and seeing the goods yard which was still operating.
  20. Realised I misread the original question. Picture the Past says that photo is from 1965, not when traffic stopped. More info and another photo. http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM007037&prevUrl=
  21. And I also remember when it was the cartoon cinema specifically catering for kids.
  22. Welcome to Nottstalgia angie. Here's a few photos to jog your memory.
  23. Eight and a half year bump for a thread by Mr Red. Not a bad record. I suppose the internet and DVDs have killed off the market for porn in the cinema. You can now watch it in the comfort of your own home and nobody can see what you're doing.
  24. That's almost where I was. Malin Hill runs behind the brick wall; I was one level further up at the red arrow.
