  1. The voice you'd most like to touch. RIP
  2. Don't go to the movies any more, not a lot of quality about, mostly blast them to pieces, all visual effects and noise with no storyline. Last movie I went to was one of the dark and gloomy Harry Potter ones, fell asleep after 15 minutes. Don't think they play the anthem any more here.
  3. It's over fifty years since I last went to the Goose Fair, strangely enough it is the smells that bring back the most memories. The exhaust fumes and the oil smells of the generators, toffee apples and candy floss, peas and mint sauce, hot dogs and onions, brandysnap and gingerbread. Listening to Johnny and the Hurricanes belt out Red River Valley or Rocking Goose whilst trying not to throw up on the Waltzer
  4. Or when the splicing broke or the globe blew and chants of "We Want Pictures" went up
  5. Sometimes slightly rude ones get past the licensing authorities. Don't know if it is real!
  6. Where I did my apprenticeship we had a drink vending machine in the canteen, and like Jill's the tea and coffee were dire. The chocolate was good as was the soup. Ours was not free, cost four pence a cup, the soup got me through many a cold night shift after my Thermos was empty. The Thermos had a wide neck so you could put thick chunky soups and chipolatas and beans in them.
  7. I was rather partial to a drop of this now and again
  8. Ian, A bit like the away fans during Mansfield's perpetual relegation struggles singing "Let's all drink to the death of the Town" from the Kinks Death of a Clown
  9. Wigfalls! Remember mum and dad renting our first telly from there.
  10. Sausage and brown sauce cobs waiting for a blue bus. Is that an F3 at the stand?
  11. If you didn't use Mr Google, well done Ian, as Michael Caine used to say not many people know that. More famous as being "The Boy From Bowral". Spent his last days here in Adelaide.
  12. Strangely re the posts above, today is the 110th anniversary of "The Don's" birth.
  13. This is an interesting map showing all the old railway lines throughout the UK http://railmaponline.com/ Please note it is not an encrypted site.
  14. Just watching Wolves and Man City 1-0 early in the second half. Dubious goal During the commentary it was mentioned that Wolves had 5 Portuguese players in their starting line up. Not including their manager, guess where he was from, you got it...……..Portugal English Premier League my ar$e. There ought to be a limit on how many "forrin" players are allowed in a team
  15. To me there is nothing more British than this. Coming home after a long afternoon shift. I think I might like to make my final exit to this.
  16. Eric Coates, A Hucknall lad and a prolific composer of many tunes that you will instantly recognise if you hear them, also famous for the main theme, The Dam Busters March, The Knightsbridge March and the theme from Music While You Work. He was probably less well known for the opening and closing themes from The Forsyte Saga
  17. Isn't a Sedona a type of cactus too, a bit prickly if you landed on this.
  18. Butler Brothers of Kirkby used to run OB's between Blid'uth and Kirkby. As a youth used them to get to Larch Farm to catch the Trent service to Nottingham
  19. I can't believe that it is 50+ years since the monstrous Maid Marian Way was put in. It was called the ugliest road in Europe and destroyed so much of the Midland Queen
  20. A winter shot outside Victoria Station (Photo by Ian Merrill)
  21. I don't remember seeing a City Transport bus that looks like this one
  22. They used to do that wrapping parcels in the local CO-OP but how?
  23. The Star Inn was a Shippo's pub demolished in the 70's (picture source Eddie Dexter)
  24. Compo, Have you seen "The Boat That Rocked"? a great movie about a pirate radio ship. It's well worth a watch.
  25. In the sixties the Football Post was pink and the Football News might have been green or white. Used to get good tips when delivering them round the village and in the local boozers.
