  1. Kipling's Bakery on the highway in Port Wakefield heading north out of Adelaide is a compulsory stop, in fact my car turns in there on its own. It's hell of a long way to ship pastries to the old Dart
  2. On Wednesday 6th February it will be 60 years since that terrible accident when 23 people were killed when BEA Flight 609, an Elizabethan type Air-Speed Ambassador failed to get airborne at Munich-Riem airport. Whilst we remember the "Busby Babes" that lost their lives we should also not forget the Manchester United staff, journalists, aircrew and other passengers. Harry Gregg and Bobby Charlton are the only members of the Man. Utd. team involved in the crash that are still with us. I hope that the fans at Sunday's Newcastle vs Man. Utd. pay their respects appropriately
  3. I did not mind the odd pint of Warwicks' bitter brewed by Warwick and Richardson in Newark. Apparently the old brewery has been refurbished and is now up-market apartments.
  4. Your comment about Watneys Red Barrel reminded me of this
  5. Here is Loppy doing donuts in his buggy
  6. It's the middle of the summer sports season here in OZ. Cricket- One day internationals versus the Poms , 20/20 Big Bash Tennis - Australian Open Cycling - Tour Down Under riding 120 km in 40 degree heat WTF? Football - Australian A League I just wish the telecasters would cut out the "talking heads" and just concentrate on the sport and that the tennis players, particularly the women cut out the grunting every time they hit the ball.
  7. Whilst working in China I came across this pearl of wisdom, which if you think about it most likely true. "The only thing that Chinese don't eat that flies is an aeroplane" "The only thing that Chinese don't eat that swims is a submarine" Didn't some restaurant in Birmingham get fined 50 grand for poor hygiene part of which was serving food on wooden boards which the health inspectors said could not be adequately cleaned.
  8. I am not a fan of "keep one - drop one" or whatever it is called so I just ignore it. However, for me the song association thread is full of nostalgia, as a long forgotten song comes up, you play it on YouTube and it takes you back to a time and place from your past and often reminds you of friends and events.
  9. Yes, Good wins for Forest and County but the Stags are facing a replay at home against Cardiff on Tuesday night. The prize is a home tie against Manchester City. I'd love to be at Field Mill for that one. Anyone remember their famous giant killing effort by beating a star studded West Ham United 3-0 in February 1969?
  10. The washing instructions, brand name and size tags that are in the left hand side seam of casual shirts and polo tops. They appear to be made of some stiff plastic like material and scratch the hell out of your side. Cutting them out does not work, to get rid of them completely you have unpick the side seam and re-sew it. Anyway who ever reads the washing instructions?
  11. I agree with Pianoman, only milk comes in 1 and 2 litres, cars have 3, 4 and 5+ litre engines. The big lazy 4 litre straight six in my car still gets 33 m.p.g. on a run and shows around 2,300 rpm at 70 mph
  12. Well, well Australia declare with a first innings lead of 303. England are now battling to avoid an innings defeat. England - Can't bat, can't bowl, can't field, poor captaining, and woeful selectors, other than that quite a reasonable attempt at retaining the ashes. Poothetic.
  13. Final test at the SCG thank goodness, England batted first and a reasonable score of 346. Could have been more but Root blundered by not putting in a night watchman after he was dismissed. After an early wicket Khawaja and Smith ground a totally ineffectual England bowling "attack" into the SCG turf. Smith just out for 83, C&B Ali. Lunch Aus 277 for 3 The selectors made no significant changes and guess what the same dismal performance, we can only hope to catching Australia on a deteriorating wicket on day five.
  14. Don't know why it is such a problem to introduce a deposit scheme. In South Australia we have had a 10c (6p) deposit on all beverage containers for many years. At home we have another bin to put them in until it is full and then off to the recycling centre to get our money back. You seldom see these as litter as they have a worth. Mixed waste stream plastics are blended with sawdust and are increasingly being used as skirting boards and architraves and plastic only products are used as replacement for decking timbers and street furniture, bollards etc. Control of the feedstock for
  15. Didn't the mushy pea stalls add bicarb' to the marrowfat peas too. By the way what is a marrowfat pea, is it just a variety of a garden pea
  16. Public transport stupidity is not confined to Nottingham. In Adelaide we have just completed a tunnel extension to our guided busway O Bahn costing 93 million pounds. The tunnel saves 3 minutes on bus journeys from the northern suburbs. We have just started a 0.7 mile extension to our tram network (1 Line, City to Glenelg, the beach) at a cost of 49 million pounds. The interesting thing is that the tram was planned to service the eastern side of the city by turning right from the main thoroughfare through the city. For some reason the government have deci
  17. I agree with TBFH, a base salary with a win bonus it also might remove some of the negativity in the game. What about a salary cap for each club which includes all registered players, this would limit the ability of the super clubs to "purchase" a championship. Stupid salaries to the players has not improved the performance of the England team.
  18. Here we go again, it's just like a roundabout at the Goose Fair. I agree with Ben, sack the underperforming players and build a squad with a core of local/UK players even if it involves relegation for a few seasons. It might even help the England team if this happened with more clubs by having two or three players from a club that a team could be built around Get a manager with a real passion for the club and let him manage. For me real football died when the "stupid money" from the media came in. The odd game that I have watched live is so negative that as an ex season tic
  19. The leader of the opposition very kindly replaced the HP sauce when she went shopping last week and when I came to use it for my bacon sanger I found it was now in a plastic bottle. Sacrilege, is nothing sacred?
  20. Last time I put petrol in a car I owned in the UK it was 33p a gallon and I got green stamps too.
  21. Australia all out 327, their lower order did an England and collapsed. Much better bowling performance by Anderson and Broad. Woakes did OK and Tom Curran bagged the crucial breakthrough wicket of Steve Smith. Still wondering how Moeen Ali keeps his place. Cook must fire this time for England to have half a chance of getting near Australia's score.
  22. This reminds me of Zulu sung to the tune of Men of Harlech (courtesy Wiki) A slightly ruder version of the last verse was often sung whilst walking on Kinderscout What's the good of wearing braces, Vests and pants and boots with laces, Spats or hats you buy in places Down in Brompton Road? What's the use of shirts of cotton, Studs that always get forgotten? These affairs are simply rotten: Better far is woad. Woad's the stuff to show, men. Woad to scare your foemen: Boil it to a brilliant hue And rub it on your b
  23. I'm impressed with your knowledge Ben. I checked and Wiki says Third Test vs Australia at Melbourne[edit] The Third Test cemented the "Typhoon" reputation. He took 2/68 in the first innings and at the end of the fourth day Australia needed 240 to win and were 75–2, with Tyson on 1/11. Over 50,000 Australian fans came on the fifth day to see Neil Harvey and Richie Benaud knock off the remaining 165 runs, but what they got was 'the fastest and most frightening sustained spell of fast bowling seen in Australia'.[28] as Tyson took 6/16 off 6.3 overs from the Richmond End. His 7/27 in the
