Compo 10,328
Going back to the sunject of Railway bog rolls. I recall the BR rolls having "British Railways" stamped on every sheet throughout the roll. I'm sure the "Big four" did the same.
Bilbraborn 1,594
Pity it didn't have a picture of Doctor Beeching on it as well. I'd definitely used more of it.
FLY2 10,108
It was like that Izal brand, you used to have to get a great handful and then ruffle it up or it used to slide all over the place. I remember one spotting trip to Rugby, we were in the field near the birdcage bridge. Four of us filled our duffle bags with dried cow muck. When we neared Beeston level crossing on our return journey, we would fill two toilets of muck then try to time it to be flushed over Station Rd. I never cease to be amazed at the daft things kids got up to in the late 50's. it was all harmless fun until mother smelt my clothes. Cow poo all over my socks and shoes, but worst of all, smeared on my gaberdine mac.
NewBasfordlad 3,599
But the loo rolls manufacturers have found a way to make money..................the rolls aren't as wide as they used to be. Saves a fortune on paper.
MELTONSTILTON 452
That's because you used the wrong side. It had a smooth side and an absorbent side. Our school toilets were outside and on the edge of open fields, so when it was the middle of winter with a strong wind blowing and -5°c, you did not bother which side of the toilet paper you were using, you just got on with the job in question and looked forward to the warm classroom.............. Bilbraborn 1,594
That was because you were all nesh. When I mentioned this topic to my wife she asked me why men fold loo roll to use it but women screw it up. I did ask her how she got this info.

Bilbraborn 1,594
I thought I'd heard it all until today. My grand daughter came home from her school placement where she goes from college training to be a child carer. She says none of the staff are allowed to say the word 'Hallowe'en' in front of the children. They have to call it.......... wait for it.......... 'Spooky Spooky Day'. Presumably not to frighten the kids. They hear the word 'Hallowe'en' at home and in the street and no doubt use it in the playground. I've never heard such politically correct B-----ks! The kids must think their teachers are right gormless plonkers.
Rob.L 1,090
Would these be the same kids who are dressed-up in ghoulish costumes with fake blood, plastic fangs, and so on, to go trick or treating? Or settle down in front of the TV to watch Simpsons Halloween specials? Who comes up with these daft ideas?
NewBasfordlad 3,599
All this is mainly in council run establishments. My wife used to work in an old peoples home specialising in folks with dementia. First they were residents, then services users, then patients after that I forget but they are now you've guessed it .......................residents. No black or white coffee, coffee with or with out milk. Council plumbers don't have ball cocks they have float operated valves, no female or male threads because all this is sexist. And we pay some fat arrised bu99er to sit in an office dreaming all this tosh up.
Beduth 202
Talking of which. I went into a cafe the other day and said, 'Can I have a decapitated coffee please' and the waitress said 'surely you mean decafinated?' I said 'No, I don't want a head on it.'
Bilbraborn 1,594
Answer to #184: Some overpaid politically correct power crazed w____r in a plush office somewhere. Thinking they are God's gift to the world they have nothing better to do. I can see a huge saving on council tax somewhere here!
darkazana 1,736
#185 My daughter was told a couple of years ago that the children would not be producing Mothers Day cards at school as some children were adopted, so it was going to be Special Persons Day! Despite the fact that the children still called their adoptive parents Mum and Dad!!!

FLY2 10,108
My grand daughters 10th birthday is coming up soon, and she took her party invitations to school to give out to her friends. One boy, who is not a friend of my grand daughter burst into tears and went crying to the teacher, squealing that he hadn't had an invite.the teacher marched my grand daughter out of the class and reprimanded her saying that she should have invited this boy. My grand daughter stated that many children in the class didn't get invites as they weren't her special friends. The teacher ought to have marched the little wuss outside and make him stand in the corridor for the rest of the lesson. I dread to think what this little mardarse will grow into. DAVIDW 1,684
There was a story recently where a school has banned the handing out of party invites unless the whole class is invited . http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/10377562/School-bans-party-invitations-unless-whole-class-is-invited.html Kids parties have evolved since we were young . We have just got back from our grandaughters 5th birthday that was held at one of these large indoor play areas , after the kids had run themselves ragged on the slides and climbing equipment they were given a cooked lunch . All very nice but my son said it had cost over £300 for 20 kids ! eek !! Grandaughter has virtually a party every week to attend what with all the class birthdays but it must be hard if you are one of the ones never invited . But the thing that amazed me was the money that must have been spent on presents by the other kids parents . None of your Poundland stuff but really nice gifts probably around 6 to 10 pounds a piece . This is just a normal Midlands village, nowhere posh . So if you have a popular kid its quite a yearly outlay on gifts just for going to parties.
FLY2 10,108
I read the article and the comments. One that struck am as being most relevant was " Whose going to protect these kids when they leave school" yes, exactly.
Beduth 202
I always thought that the purpose of school education was to prepare children for life in the 'big bad world'! The teaching staff cannot have an influence on 'offenders' of any sort outside school, therefore they should be 'hardening off' offended children in their care in preparation for the future. I see this invitation situation to be an ideal opportunity to explain to a class the realities of life. How do they pick two teams for games these days? In my day two individuals would take it in turn to choose a team member and you wouldn't instantly choose Mardarse nor would you choose Lardarse straightaway. It all depended on what they could offer by way of ability or bribery and that's all part of the big bad world..

catfan 14,793
My daughter, a Teacher was told that children are not "Naughty" but being "Silly". Schools nowadays openly promote Homosexuality, Gays, Lesbians, Transgender or whatever they are called. They even have school books where there are two same sex parents bringing up children. I call this Brainwashing.
