This morning my husband had an appointment for MRI and CT scans at QMC, requested by a consultant 2 or 3 weeks ago.  We left home at 9.30 to catch the bus into town, walked across to the tram and got into X Ray department 10 mins early, at 10.10, feeling really pleased that the great public transport we have here in the City really works well.
My husband was called through at spot on time and I sat in the main  waiting room.  Around 90 minutes late he reappeared ready to go home.  Problem was that he’d sat in the next area and eventually they told him he couldn’t have the scans because they hadn’t realised he was needing both MRI and CT and there wasn’t time to do them!!!  Back on the tram and then bus and home at 12.30.  Well that was 3 hours of our lives we’ll never get back and he’s now back to square one, having to try to get to speak to Consultant or Secretary on Monday,  neither of whom were working today.     Interesting morning  for me nevertheless, people watching.
I’d got big plans for today too, quite a bit of dashing around. In the end I never went out the door, but turned the central heating on and read a book, did someone say it was mid-Summer and almost the longest day??

Lizzie, how annoying for you both. What on earth is happening to the NHS? I actually had my MRI a week last Tuesday and still waiting for the results. It was taken less than a mile away from my surgery. Rang docs yesterday, results not back yet.

My experience here is that you have your MRI and CT scans, the radiographers do the report and the report and scans are available to the specialist via a log in to the system within about two hours.

I wonder what takes so long in the UK? Is the NHS so overwhelmed, understaffed or just inefficient.

Mrs B, I think it's a case of no news is good news,
(disclaimer,, I have no medical qualifications)

I had an MRI for prostrate 2 years ago, and got the results in just under 2 weeks,, all clear but further investigation reqd, which still showed all clear.

A friend's father have the same MRI just before Xmas and when he came out from the scanner the receptionist said the Consultant wanted to speak to him.
Turned out he'd had prostrate cancer for a while and they suspected it may have spread.
He had a full MRI /CT (not sure which) a couple of days later and it confirmed cancer all over the place

That's a rather self-satisfied smirk.  Tabby cats are very good at catching things. My tabby is almost 19 and was mustard in her day. Now she just dreams about it.
