  1. Thank you all for my birthday wishes it has made a difference I haven't felt great over the past few weeks. I had a phone call from Mr and Mrs Carnie singing happy birthday down the phone this morning that was great. Now it's time for a glass of wine or two and a chocolate lunch in the garden with the company of a good book.

  2. Easter is linked to the Moon , vernal equinox it was the only way of recording the actual time of the event.

  3. More fatuous questions from the new Labour supremo. Quote:- Newly-elected Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer urged the government to be transparent over its lockdown strategy and to clarify how long Mr Johnson will be "out of action". Why not ask a useful question like, how long a is a piece of string, we've all wanted to know that for ages...

  5. Christ was crucified on the Jewish Passover feast. This feast always takes place on the full moon of the month this will vary year by year. It is always passover though, and many calendars show the passover date. Easter is generally believed to be a pagan feast for the goddess 'Ishtar' believed to be anglicized to easter which was mostly a spring festival. I prerer to call it Resurrection Sunday as I am not much interested in pagan so called goddesses.

  6. Yes Margie, they've filled out even more now in this warm weather. The scent is Devine, as well as the colours. We've had them for years, Tina saves the seed pods and sprinkles them around the other pots. B.x

  7. I think Rev Widdows followed J B Peet - by far and away the best minister we had. Before that, it might have been Rev Jones, and the Manse back then was on Hazel Grove (23?). Rev Jones had an Austin 10 (?) and occasionally, if he was passing, gave us a lift to Spring Lane Chapel, where we went to Sunday School for too many years - I was introduced by Andy Wood, as they lived at the top of Gedling Lane, before they moved to Imperial Ave, off Westdale Lane. Rev John Peet made his entrance at the annual men's concert, dragging his trousers.... The normal term

  9. Yes but why is Easter a moveable "celebration" Surely Jesus died on a particular day/date, so why is Easter related to the moon and can fall any time between March 22nd and April 25th. This further reinforces my view that it has no credibility whatsoever

  12. Ah, that's a good idea. Lets publish the Lockdown strategy, so that minority of the general population who still don't get it know exactly what's planned and can find every way to try to beat it. It must be just a coincidence that lots of motorcycle owners have realise they're low on milk and bread and suddenly felt the need to travel to Matlock, on this sunny weekend, past my Sons house to buy some. I just hope Derbshire Police are sat at the bottom of the hill turning them around.

  13. What can be more transparent than, "stay at home and don't go out" until the experts say differently!!. And no doubt, Boris will give him a call when he feels better!! Just to keep him in the loop.

  14. The reduction (if in fact there is any), in Further Education is not easy to assess, nor are the reasons why. The UK was on par with Germany, France and Japan in % of population terms up until 2003, now we are almost at the bottom of the list. This despite the fact the number of 16-18 year-olds staying in full-time education has increased, with colleges becoming the ‘default’ institutions. Sorry to say it Col but the drop actually started on your watch! When we refer to tertiary education we tend to think of Cof FE but there are others to consider. For at least

  15. Hi dingbat 45 Have been meaning to reply to this topic since I first saw it. My father lived down the meadows and went to Bosworth School I have a photo of him with teacher and class mates, it would have been taken around 1923/1924/1925. I have tried to put it on to this site, photo bucket, making it smaller but it just doe's not want to work. If any one is interested in the photo please send me a message.
