  1. A Hillman Hunter. I asked my brother to look for a car for me since he allegedly knew about them. The first thing I discovered about it was when I filled up the petrol tank the fuel started leaking out of a hole part way up the tank. The seller had left it with only a little fuel to hide this fault! I had numerous problems with the engine overheating whenever I did a long journey, if the AA had had a blacklist I would have been on it. My brother and I even changed the engine for a replacement one from a scrapyard because the original engine seized up. Eventually I met the love of my life, who

  2. Doctors will treat you as a patient in need, they won't turn you away. You would then be billed and a payment plan worked out, often discounted.

  3. Indeed. Good to hear. Responding to Kev's point above about reducing numbers of regular posters.. It seems to me that there are many possible reasons. First off.. every product/service etc.. follows a 'bell curve' in which popularity rises to a peak then falls. I've seen many websites rise and fall way quicker than NS. Second. Competition from F'book and others has increased since this site started. Third. There are only so many times we can go around the 'Sweets from the past', 'Old TV Progs', 'Things yer granny used ter say', etc

  6. That must account for those who eagerly request information about places, subjects and people, only to b*gger off, never to be heard from again?

  7. Another significant problem is navigation around this site. It's bloody difficult unless you know it well and are viewing on a decent-sized desktop screen. If you've never experienced it, try looking at NS on a phone or small tablet/laptop. There are always a lot of people listed at the top of the homepage as Guests (currently 72). They arrived here because they searched a particular subject, such as Drury Hill, or Trip to Jerusalem. The results lead them to the specific NS thread on that subject; then they read the posts in that thread, and decide to register so they c

  12. Had a rare excursion to Bulwell today. Just for something to do I suppose. Nice new coffee shop in the town called "Jerome's" . A real belting cup of Cappachino. Much better than Costa & cheaper too. The owner was a young bloke of colour who knows his craft.

  13. It’s been solved; not by me, but by a third party on another site. It isn’t Nottingham; it’s the South-East London suburb of Anerley, which I’d never even heard of. All the buildings in the original photo are still there and basically unchanged…including the terrace on the right; the building on the left (which isn’t quite as small as it first appears); even the old metal railings have survived….and some very distinctive stone carving on the corners.

  14. I'm confident that the Chinese are perfectly capable of making excellent quality tools and they most likely do so. I don't think that is the issue. The trouble is that many Brits are cheapskates who buy everything on price and don't assess, or often even recognise, quality. We may make any number of criticisms of China and its population.. but stupid they definitely are not. So.. as long as we are prepared to buy 'tat' at rock bottom prices.. they are prepared to sell it to us.

  15. This topic is heading towards the Politics thread I think but... The 'so called' Communist regime in China is nothing of the sort. It is some form of State Dictatorship, which uses its power to issue edicts from above..to force compliance. My wife had many Chinese students when she taught EFL to overseas 'business types' and often recounts tales of how even here.. they were afraid to speak their minds, and incredibly naive about freedoms we take for granted. One day she was explaining how we grow a few veg in our garden and the student replied in surprise 'They allow you to do t

  16. I think most people in sneinton knew each other back in the days ,post ww2,i am sneinton born and bred, loved the place,we didn’t have two pennies to rub together, and were little tearaways, but the people of old sneinton were the best. see all the names on here and try to remember who they might be,especially the ladies ,now most have married names. wish there were more old time sneinton eras around now,be a better place . cheers
