  1. And just to lighten things up a bit.. a song which always makes me think of spring, but only because he mentions 'Home Thoughts From Abroad'.. 'now that April's there...'

  2. It is just short of 100 days until the start of "The Limp Dick Games" The free to air TV channel that is telecasting the games is bombarding us with jingoistic adverts. Obviously all about Australian participants. When it is on we only see events where the Australians participate and never see any of the non main stream but nevertheless interesting sports. FFS Break dancing is not a sport neither is "sport" climbing or 3x3 Basketball, what in the heck is artistic swimming? Where are they going to surf in Paris? Have a guess, it will be in Teahupo'o in Tahiti, French Polynesia. What a bl**

  3. People of a certain age might remember "Let's Go to San Francisco' by the Flowerpot Men in 1967, who were just a group of session musicians. They recorded a few other songs but none were successful. One was 'In a Moment of Madness'...which was later released by White Plains...although it was the same people. I'd forgotten how good it was.

  5. It's greatly to their credit that they could still perform in such embarrassingly bad conditions. A good demonstration of how pop music was treated in those days. The programme and organisation was in the hands of middle-aged men in suits who had no idea or understanding of what was happening.

  6. Not seen this before, a remastered live Beatles concert in Washington, the first one after appearing on Ed Sullivan. The beginning is almost comically amateurish as the screaming audience are on all 4 sides of the stage and Ringo sits with his back to the band ! First Ringo and then Paul try and rotate the drum stage with no luck. This rotation of the drum set and mikes goes on throughout and with the way Ringo was bashing those drums (but still holding the rhythm), it's a wonder the kit held together. George opens with Roll Over Beethoven. It's a

  7. Arnold to Adelaide! Thanks to t'internet, plenty of good music to listen to both old and new and from musicians/vocalists all over the world. Most use digital audio software now which is so advanced that professional recording quality can be achieved from even a small home studio although computer as well as musical knowledge is now a requisite. Here's an example from a very talented covers band/group in Adelaide performing a 70's song co-written by Graham Russell of Arnold. Look out for Charlie Drake on guitar!!

  9. Carly is a very attractive lady and had some rather 'arresting' album covers back in the day. I recently bought a five album 'retrospective' and to be honest, she is/was a fairly average singer, who came from a very wealthy family. https://www.classicrockhistory.com/top-10-carly-simon-album-covers/

  10. Ben I've seen that vid many times. May have even posted it here myself. It's wonderful and that young lady can certainly dance, but it's not original. It was made in 1975.. a good ten years after Rick Derringer's band The Mc Coys had their original hit. Here's the real story.. The girl is called Lisa Leonard Dalton and was hired to dance to the tune in C 1975, a good ten years after the original hit. Also look at Rick Derringer's hair. no way it would have been that long in 1964 or whenever. There are various videos out there explaining it all but they have something in them

  11. Forest- Fail to capitalise on the game in hand over Luton by losing 2-0 away at Everton. The referee and VAR came in for severe criticism for failing to award penalties to Forest, one handball appeared obvious yet was denied. Everton scored the first of their long range efforts in the 29th minute when Idrissa Gueye fired one home. McNeil put the result beyond doubt when his 25 yard shot went in off the post in the 76th minute. At the end of normal time the game was stopped for 8 minutes after Everton player Beto was injured during a challenge by Morgan Gibbs-White and had to be taken off

  12. Col, I love lupins, unfortunately so do aphids which just suck out the sap which is annoying so keep an eye on them. There is a beautiful lupin called Manhattan Lights which is a bi colour purple and yellow, truly splendid. We have been at the allotment today planting sweet peas which climb through my grape vine and cabbage (Greyhound) which are the conical ones and really tasty. Now we both know we’ve been there with aches, me with my knee and Mr B with his sore hands. Maybe we are the “hands, knees and bumpsy daisy” couple eh? Just been watching “Herman” the hedgehog feeding. He’s huge

  15. Think the word ''Legend'' is very over-used........but not in the case of Gerry... To me he is a true sound of Liverpool......... I believe this song by them made number one in the states.......sadly i think all the original 'Pacemakers'..have all left us now along with 'Gerry''.......but in my mind they are all still ''Ferrying'' across the Mersey....... Edit full screen excellent...

  18. And on low-bridge buses you'd see the sign 'Please lower your head before leaving your seat" if you were sitting on the side with the low gangway.

  20. Morning Rog, seeing your above picture of the diesel loco reminded me of this 5" gauge engine I built in 1988. That is my late son driving on his passenger carrying test in 1989, (he passed away in May 1990). That's not me behind him.....

  21. I could never understand why some people think money equates to intelligence. As a teacher myself, I found that some of the brightest children were from poor families. The problem lay in convincing the parents that their child's route to a better life depended on education. A few could see it but many could not. Many of The Manning girls were from Hyson Green. Their parents had very little but their daughters were given a first class education of the type that would cost a great deal of money today. Sadly, many of them became teenage brides as soon as they left.
