  1. We all know that the answer to the universe and everything is 42
  2. #49 Morning cousin/ 2nd/3rd??? I'm Derek, youngest son of your Auntie Mary and Uncle Albert. Betty my sister is the oldest, as I always remind her, and she lives in Wollaton. Brother Alan sadly died four years ago. I left Nottingham with wife Ann in 1965 to join the RAF and I've never been back. I remember my Aunty Grace, your Uncle Albert's sister, as a very mild and gentle person but I don't remember so much about Uncle Arch, apart from him having a piano accordion. I remember your mum and dad quite well but as is common with families it was mainly through funerals etc. I also remember a cou
  3. I've just realised I've got it wrong. It's our golden wedding anniversary in August, not diamond. Don't tell the wife I got wrong whatever you do!
  4. Yes, this is as per the 'Traditional' list. Our diamond anniversary this August. As a husband I may start a move to reverse the order of the gifts. It would be cheaper!
  5. 1947 for me too. Sucking icicles, bringing down snow overhangs from roofs. Ah! They don't make winters like that any more
  6. I prefer a Southampton, which is of course a large port.
  7. My daughter tells me there are two lists of suitable wedding anniversary presents on the net; traditional presents and modern. Looking it up, I find she is right. Just as an instance, the traditional present for fifty years of marriage is the diamond and for thirty years, the pearl. The modern list gives the diamond for thirty years of marriage and for fifty years the diamond or the pearl. I can think of two reasons for these differing lists. Either modern marriages don't last these days and so thirty years warrants a diamond, or it's purely a sales technique. Any thoughts?
  8. People are people with all their weaknesses. A good bit of philosophy turned up in 'Peanuts' when Charlie Brown was described as 'a good occasional friend'. It depends on which way the wind is blowing and I find family relationships no better at times.
  9. I find the trouble to be that Young Farts don't appreciate that they could be Old Farts themselves someday and that Old Farts sometimes forget that they were once Young Farts. All Farts come from the same place and are just as objectionable somewhere along the line.
  10. For those who have the time to rhyme There's someone who will read. Me for one, so get it done, More poetry we need.
  11. Solomon's Seal. Must have been a hell of a tide!
  12. That reminds me. Must get some cuff lynx.
  13. My missus says, and I agree with her, hurry up with the royal baby and get the politicians off the T.V. screen.
  14. For myself I can only be nostalgic about Nottingham to a certain extent and if there were no cross-words or banter, what a boring site this would be. Isn't this transparency?
  15. The older I get, the more I forget how to spell. My dictionary is worn out and I need a new one.
  16. Das Rheingold is an opera by Wagner. The food and drink ain't up to much but it's a hell of a Karaoke.
  17. I remember seeing him when the Australians were playing at Trent Bridge and he and the rest of the team were viisiting Gunn & Moore. Spelt right and does the company still exist?
  18. Is the (I think) 'Rose Garden' pub still open in Wollaton? Some years ago it was run by an old Wm Crane school mate, John Beaumont.
  19. Here's a thought. The nights start drawing in the month after next.
  20. What if you take toothpaste to London. Must it go by tube?
  21. Whatever the definition of 'poverty' is, and I certainly don't know, there are those who manage to live within its boundaries and those who can't avoid doing so. The trick is, I suppose, to separate the two catagories. My sympathies to those who try to do it.
  22. I know there has been discussion about aircraft in the annals before but I can't find where, -any way - this may be old news but the USAF are to leave RAF Mildenhall in a year or three and it was announced on local news that there is to be a farewell air display sometime to come. Anyone who's ever been to one of these displays will know they are amongst the best in the country, so it's worth keeping an eye out for this event.
  23. The father of one of the victims said something which had crossed my mind, and that was to wonder how the parents of the young co-pilot must feel about all this, not that it diminishes the sympathy for all those who lost someone in the tragedy.
