  1. banjo48, I totally agree with your comment, 'Never been a fan of any zoo ! we should do more to protect their natural environment. Wild animals should be free.' The problem is that there's less and less space for wild animals on Earth as their habitat is bulldozed over. The Human Race think they're doing the animals a favour by sticking them in a zoo. I could cry when I see reports of the cruelty that's inflicted on animals in some of these places. I put this photo on a different thread a day or so ago but I think it's relevant to this thread.
  2. Ok, Harambe shouldn't have to be killed. The zoo had no choice. They could not dart him because in the time it took the tranquiliser to work that little boy could well be dead. She may be a rubbish Mum or a good Mum who took her eye off the ball for a few seconds - I DON'T KNOW. He may be a naughty, unruly child or an adventurous, curious four year old - I DON'T KNOW. What I DO KNOW is that no way on earth should that child have been able to climb into a Gorilla enclosure. It is the Zoo's responsibility to ensure that it is impossible for ANY visitor to gain access to ANY animal enclosur
  3. The Bowling Green at Newark seems to ring a bell with me. I'm sure I used to go there in the 60's when they had groups on. I think another one was The Station. In the summertime my wife and I would walk to Newark, stopping to have a picnic on the way, and seeing all the scenery and wildlife that you don't see when you're driving. We never had any trouble getting a lift back to Nottingham. When I look back at my life I'm amazed at some of the stuff I did. All good fun though.
  4. I was always led to believe that it's the cows farting too much that's causing global warming.
  5. My wife came out with a funny one tonight. We were watching the boxing on TV and she looked at this skinny Flyweight boxer and said, "He looks two stone lighter than a ghost"
  6. The first photo is beautiful, the second is heartbreaking.
  7. benjamin, I had to smile at the way you reel off the prices of all the items for sale at Marsdens. That was 56 years ago, how can you remember that? I didn't know you worked at Marsdens, you should've let us all know.
  8. Here's a nice article regarding Fairham Brook and other places, mary1947. http://www.nottinghamshirewildlife.org/nature-reserves/fairham-brook/
  9. I'll bet you feigned a lot of injuries when you were playing, benjamin.
  10. Benjamin has the same problem, hippo girl.
  11. I've never had one myself but they look to be very painful from what I've just read, hippo girl. Here's an article from NHS Choices that you may find useful. I've also read that salt water rinses can help. http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Dental-abscess/Pages/Introduction.aspx#relief
  12. Welcome to Nottstalgia, Potatoes. I look forward to reading your posts and sharing your memories.
  13. There are some excellent videos on YouTube of the caves around Nottingham. If you have an interest in the caves then they are well worth watching.
  14. I'm 100% certain it's not a Vauxhall Wyvern because it's the first car I bought.
  15. loppylugs, don't start calling Skegness because a lot of us grew up going to Skegness for our holidays. It was like a second home to us when we were kids. Bognor better than Skeggy? No way. (loppylugs, just in case you were wondering, my post's in jest)
  16. I loved the school dinners and puddings when I was at Trent Bridge school and we could also buy biscuits. There'd be a table in the hall that was full of assorted biscuits for sale. You'd pay a little more for chocolate biscuits but they were all inexpensive. I can remember finding a strip of five dinner tickets in the Assembly Hall and my first thought was, 'Wow, double dinners everyday' but my upbringing made me hand them in to the dinner lady. I can't remember if it was the same day or the next day but I was told that I had to go to see Mr Green, the Headmaster, in his office. I was trying
  17. Oztalgian, I had to laugh at your description of the school cabbage.
  18. Compo, do they ever find you walking up and down the railway lines in your underpants?
  19. You wouldn't like it in my home then, catfan. If we are watching TV my wife and I like watching a good game of football or a boxing/UFC match. We also like the History, Geography, Discovery, Science, Yesterday and the Solar System programmes. My wife also likes to watch Murder She Wrote so I record them for her to watch when I'm busy doing things. If we watch daytime TV then it'll be ITV with Dickinson's Real Deal, Tipping Point, The Chase and then the News. We don't like watching any of the Soaps but understand that millions of others do. We also like watching Blockbusters (Could I have a P p
  20. redbowen, where did you see Sterling playing?
  21. To be fair, apart from the name of the song, there's no comparison between the two.
