  1. Haha. Yes, Budgie - heavy trio from Wales! I saw quite a few good gigs at the Sherwood Rooms - which I always liked as a venue. What's happened to it now ? In fact some of the places in Nottingham that had some great gigs are probably still there - but just don't have groups on anymore. Albert Hall, Theatre Royal, Nottingham Playhouse. I can remember seeing Man (another Welsh group) at a hotel on Maid Marion Way. Can't remember the name. I think it's a Travelodge now. My brother has got programmes from gigs in Nottingham that he went to in the 60's - Stone the Crows, Blodwyn Pig
  2. Saw Hendrix at the Sherwood Rooms, had no money so sneeked in with a mate via the fire exit stairs
  3. That was John (eldest) ended when he badly broke his leg, his "hero" was Ian McCulloch but didn't expect him to do same as him! Good job Ian didn't follow his (Hendrix) as closely! lol
  4. As regards the music most if not all the "rockers" music was being made by mod groups, The Who, Small Faces, Stones etc even Hendrix was geared to a mod audience, unless you count the dated rock and roll stuff, it wasn't till later that the "Rock" bands Sabbath, Judas Priest, Floyd etc came along, could be argued the mod bands had learnt to play!
  5. Ian Drury was with the blockheads and made the original Reasons to be cheerful, died in 2000 aged 58, I saw Wee Willie Harris at the old theatre or whatever that was opposite Theatre Royal, still recall queuing in the rain under a glass roofed cover (that leaked) outside, he's now 77 as regards "If it does not have A.F-L how can it be Amen Corner?" ditto The Animals, 2 are dead and Eric Burdon not with them, Am now expecting to see advertised "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" might have a problem with that one!
  6. Tried to view New Amen Corner website, caused pc to crash twice! was wondering if Andy Fairweather Low still with them? last time I heard of him was when he phoned my mate re some hendrix info, at time was working with Roger Waters, tried to get invite to their sessions in Wales but no good, talking of Hendrix wonder who's played bass in the Animals?
  7. Yes Keith was in both those, mentioned elsewhere Andy Keeley played with Noel Redding of hendrix fame, another good guitarist played for matarka, think he later had fame with a band maybe called "Room 101"? One of best local players I ever knew is a guy called Mick, never really played with a band but nearest thing to hendrix I heard, actually played in front of Jimmy's dad at an hendrix convention
  8. Chrissy, Jackson was abused as a child as a money making exercise by his father, but it wasn't in a sexual sense, or so we are told. Dirty minds!!!!, thank you very much, I've worked with kids as a Scout Leader, Youth Leader and school helper, I've spent the last 20 years working with children and looking after kids of my own. When you're a 40 year old peadophile pervert like Jackson was at the time, you don't sleep with kids because you want to be one of them. I took your side at the time, I was prepared to accept he was simply a wierdo, but when he paid £32 million to the parents of the 'ab
  9. I must have been in both your flats! we visited them all once a year to carry out a service, must have been about 5 suicides that I recall, remember one woman landed on the old bus station roof! another only just missed one of the caretakers, you had to take care on the roof garden (4th floor) as people chucked all sorts out the windows, only thing that hit me though was contents of a teapot! Do you remember Hendrix the window cleaner? he used to climb half out the sliding windows to get to the other one, one day someone saw him, thought he was going to jump and police and all sorts came! The
  10. Chris Heath also plays with Hendrix Sic Boy Federation & Accident & Emergency - if you realy want to see him type "shat in a bucket" on YouTube ! Few from Sunday Autokarna.
  11. I was told this morning that the Witham stop over tonight is used an excuse to get the public involved, ie lots of cab visits etc, all good for getting kids involved and a bit of publicity for steam locos in general. I shall therefore wear my shorts, already am, and take my school work folder that I found in mums loft last week, perhaps the 'Jimi Hendrix for President' sticker will give my age away though. The last time this happened, with 'Britannia' at Bishops Stortford a few years ago, my pal and I got into the cab and the driver announced, 'hang on, traffic control wants us up the other e
  12. you lived at 213 broxtowe lane fynger? probably before your time but did you know a mick brittle who lived at 208? great guitarist, played in a concert where hendrix's dad was guest of honour
  13. i think you would be on about big andy, myself and hendrix (sic boy federation) would shout axe man at the top of our voices and everyone would look round to see what was going off, andy would not hurt a fly, he was just big and scarry,i dont know where or what he is doing now
  14. Andy Keeley (ABK) was co lead guitarist with Noel, (of Hendrix fame) in The Noel Redding Band, also was once on Top of the Pops (yes he did mime!)
  15. If i remember correctly....Hendrix didnt use standard tuning on his guitar....was told he only had 3 tunings....top 2 the same ..middle 2 the same and bottom 2 the same.
  16. oooops - I had always thought (& told others [!?!?]) that it was Hendrix who played a R.H guitar left handed,,,, without changing the strings over. Someone on here will know ! Baz
  17. The reason the Rickenbacker looks upside down is because it's a right handed one and Paul is left handed, not many left handed Rick's about, similar to Jimi Hendrix with his right handed Stratocaster that he played left handed. You may be able to help me on this one though, who was the left handed guitar player who learned to play his right handed Strat without changing the strings over ie: top "E" was at the top of the guitar instead of the bottom row? cracking player but can't think of his name. (mainly played the blues) Rog. ps: I did say " I may be wrong"

  20. !clapping! some copies are better than the original, Even Bob Dylan said Hendrix's version of All along the watchtower was better than his own, and at present am into run rudolph run with Lemmy (Motorhead) on vocals and Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) on lead!
  21. Sorry about that, yes i did see Almost Grown at the 'teenagers night' Bass' sports and social club Burton -on-Trent 1968. I was fourteen and very impressed. if I can clear away the very cloudy mists of time i remember them being a four piece, bass , drums, guitar and a singer that looked a bit like Roger Chapman from 'Family', and I think they played a couple of 'Family' tunes along with some Cream and Hendrix plus a Bluesbreakers song ,which was a tour de force for the short haired guitarist who rubbed two guitars together with his feet, creating a sonic gumbo never witnessed before or since
  22. [quote He moved to those 'Rabbit hutches' by the 'Starting Gate' in Colwick in 76 ish} anybody recall a domestic murder that happened in one of those houses? Re Andy Fairweather Low, yes from South Wales, was part of Roger Water's "Bleeding Heart Band" when Radio Kaos was made, he rang my mate at Bilborough wanting some Hendrix photos so maybe a Nottingham connection?
  23. Known 'Hendrix fer many a year....one o the last punks in Ilkeston
  24. Oh dear, I have all my vinyls, singles and albums stashed in the loft, Direction Records? when were they about, Google, and you have a good list of artists but they don't jump out at me. I recall that my original copy of Wooly Bully by Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs is a yellow lable, would it be the same company. OOh they've just played Bonnie Rait, 'I can't make you love me' on the radio, now thats a bit of class for Radio 2. I've got various Stax light blue singles including Otis and Booker T, I've got some Sam and Dave stuff but I swear that the labels are black. Talking of light blue la
  25. just that somebody said they'd seen jimi in one, guy I know saw the band in an old van broken down in nottingham, (later recalled by noel redding when said mate did a "hendrix tribute" number in front of him and jimi's dad)
