Braddy 160
I am sure Poundland or other pounds shops in nottm had a half price sale some years ago .
jackson 301
Nearly had a fit the other day when I found 'Poundland' closed down in the Victoria Centre; was informed later that it's moved up stairs away from its usual place just below Tesco.
StephenFord 866
Ah - Poundland has gone up-market !
barclaycon 569
Hah. That would really be a sign that a place was failing if Poundland had decided to pull out! But then I noticed you mentioned that they'd actually just moved upstairs. Like Stephen says, they've gone 'up market'.

ChrisB 150
I wonder how long they'll be able to keep filling those large shops with just pound items! Didn't the downstairs Poundworld used to be a Woolworths? It's hard to believe now that all that area beyond the escalators used to be the food court!
DAVIDW 1,684
Re my post #42 ......it's now online-poundshop wars ! Steve Smiths (ex Poundland) new website opening has been delayed and won't start until Tuesday . In the meantime, as well as Hearforapound who started last week, another site called Pound Panda has just sprung up http://www.poundpanda.co.uk/ These could be a big threat as tbey are part of a big import house and amongst other things own the 151 brand which you will see in any discount store . In addition they have no minimum order and a delivery charge of 3.95 . They don't have a branded toiletry offer but if you don't live near a discount store and need some basic household , diy , motor or toy products there are 2000 lines to go for , delivered at less than the cost of petrol and parking .
Cliff Ton 10,473
They are slowly taking over the world. They have now moved in to the grey concrete unit, across from the Old Dog and Partridge on Parliament Street.

FLY2 10,108
The good thing is, these type of shops keep people employed, and a lot of the less well off frequent them. Whilst sheltering from the rain a while ago, madam and I nipped in one. They had Weightwatchers meals for £1.00 each. Tescos were 2 for £3.00. We came out with a big bag full. FLY2 10,108
Come on girl, I know you live in Bramcote but you must have heard of Poundshops under various names.
Cliff Ton 10,473
When you look at what Aldi or Lidl or Pound-whatever can charge for various items, I don't know how Sainsbury's or the others dare show their faces.
taxi ray 170
There has been a small independent discount shop on the High road for a couple of years, I wonder how long they will last now.

Cliff Ton 10,473
There are so many of them springing up all the time, I wouldn't be surprised if Bubblewrap's wasn't another new one in Beeston.
poohbear 1,360
All those shops and all those jobs wouldn't exist if it was left to Ken Clarke....Euroland wouldn't have quite worked would it?
DAVIDW 1,684
Another Poundworld opening on Milton St opposite Vic Centre. This will be the largest of 'em all. http://www.nottinghampost.com/Nottingham-s-fourth-Poundworld-biggest-city/story-23861577-detail/story.html
Dave 48 847
It's not only in the UK. While on holiday earlier this year in Zante I came across a Euro Shop. Tried to google it but for some reason It has been removed but found this .
poohbear 1,360
Good news for the Chinese junk factories.
Chulla 4,946
The phenomenal rise of budget stores has to be taken seriously. I go into Poundland for stick-jaw, batteries and photo print paper. The other week we went to the local Aldi to see what it was like. Mrs Chulla did her usual food shop and then compared the prices with her last Sainsbury bill. Taking like-for-like at same amounts and weights, but not same brands in all cases; for 12 or just over items the saving was over five pounds. We are talking serious money here. Is there any wonder that all of the big supermarkets are making losses. Store closures are next on the agenda. Tesco has completed the build of two new stores, but is not going to open them. I read that B&Q and Homebase are going to close one in four of their stores. As the song says - Times, they are a changing.
poohbear 1,360
Homebase may as well close their stores.Their prices are a joke.
mick2me 3,033
Chulla, You shop at Sainsbury's! I did not know we had such affluent members on here? Lidl, Aldi, Home Bargains, B&M Bargains, all quality stuff at much better prices. And always search www.hotukdeals.co.uk before you buy owt.
