Compo 10,328
Of Woodthorpe: My one really embarrassing and shameful memory of my teens is of Woodthorpe Drive. I would have been about fourteen at the time, circa 1965, when with a group of lads I foolishly got involved in a bet. I had to take a piece of ladies underwear from a washing line one night. I did it and got my reward BUT I was so embarrassed at what I had done I had to sneak back at a later date and replace the item! The owner probably wondered what the feck was going on! I steered well clear of that place after that little episode.
mercurydancer 1,104
Michael Booth Yes, that is a very important part of Nottstalgia. The friendship. I know that on a meet I would be welcomed. It is really quite humbling.

TBI 2,351
#34 Well benjamin, we might have ended up workmates. I was offered a job at A.B.Gibsons, but turned it down and went to work for Woolies. So that's the nearest so far On this site I've yet to meet anyone I've ever known, unless they're keeping schtum!

barclaycon 569
This site is pure gold in terms of re-connecting with Nottingham and past memories. So much of the internet now is over-commercialised to the point that it makes you not want to interact at all. I go to considerable lengths not to let out personal details because they will be ruthlessly exploited to then bug me and try in every way to get me to part with money. So, it's great to be part of something that isn't a money-making venture but is actually enjoyable and stimulates the grey cells. I dislike social media intensely and don't have anything to do with Facebook, Twitter or the like. That's my personal choice. To be honest, most people really aren't that interesting - even though these sites have convinced them that the world needs to hear their every utterance. I know a lot of folk that have fallen foul of 'data-rape' where their personal details have been ruthlessly exploited and they find themselves bombarded with advertising and email scams. As regards Friends Re-united. It was great in the early days of the internet. I know a lot of people who found friends and even lovers through re-connecting with past school mates. But then, of course it was killed when ITV bought it and tried charging people a fee. Completely ruined it. People just drifted away and now it's unusable.
Michael Booth 7,364
TBI (#37), your comment, 'On this site I've yet to meet anyone I've ever known, unless they're keeping schtum!' made me smile because how would anyone know you if you don't use your real name?.
Cliff Ton 10,505
And to take that a step further - we don't know what TBI looks like, so 20 people could come to a Meet-up all claiming to be TBI, and nobody would know who was telling the truth.

Ayupmeducks 1,730
I've found a fair few friends from when I worked in North Yorks and also Australia on Facebook, not the best site for specialized subjects though, but has it's uses. There are a couple of Nottingham groups of FB, but it's so hard to keep up and find info on them. So gave them up.
TBI 2,351
Glad that post got a few laughs, LOL, I've only just noticed the replies. But actually, since I've been a member, I've posted enough details to be identified by anyone who might know me.. age, schools attended, street I lived on for twenty years, my job, where I've worked, my christian name, plenty of anecdotes etc. Still, you never know, some day... btw I look like Jasper Carott!
