Being the newbie I am to N.S. I couldn't work out how to reach out to Physical Perfection to tell him to get on with life as you never know what tomorrow will bring. Obviously at the moment time

I'm a happy Bunny tonight Went for my oncology visit after I had the P.E.T. scan and T.A.C. a couple of weeks ago and all is clear after the scare I had. The next process is due in 6 months after I ha

Well I hadn't intended contributing to this thread but do you want to know how many staples I've got in my tummy?!!  Actually I'll spare you the details but I want to put on record that my experience

Annoyingly Ian I’ve had all the jabs possible to man. Thankfully this has come before our short break in the Lake District a week today so will be better by then as I’m meeting up with someone at Gretna who lives now in Glasgow that I used to go on the school bus with back in the day. Met up for the first time last year but can see it’s going to be a yearly event as we visit the Lakes at the same time every year, it’s always so “Christmassy” up there with some nice markets. Good for stocking filler shopping.

I’m now wondering whether to have another covid jab along with flu jab. I wanted to get them done but forgot about them . I had a fall a couple of weeks ago and then got covid. In bed 2 days but I’ve been negative for more than 10 days. We are going away after Christmas so really rethought about these jabs but think I may have to miss covid one. I don’t know. I’m ringing Dr tomorrow.

You do have to wait a specified time certainly in this country. Not sure how long but you definitely do.

I have for the last couple of weeks been in agony with my shoulder. Really bad pain and getting worse daily. Chronic arthritis is the problem and I’ve been counting the minutes to this Wednesday when I have an appointment with the specialist at the QMC who will doubtless give a steroid injection which in the past gives almost instant relief. Post has just come and due to industrial action appointment cancelled to end of January. I cannot describe the disappointment. Waiting a call back from my GP. Really don’t know what to do. Spaced out on Tramadol but they are not dulling the pain very much and I don’t like this woozy state I’m experiencing. Very very unhappy.

@letsavagoo so sorry to read that your appt has been postponed.  It would have been great to have had the steroid injection before Christmas so you could have enjoyed the time without pain….

It’s such a shame you’ll have to continue with the Tramadol to keep you pain free.  My thoughts are with you x

Horrible situation to be in Lets, you have my sympathies. It makes me cross to think our broken two tier system could probably have you sorted by tomorrow afternoon...

After a round of ringing around yesterday there is absolutely nothing our great health service can do. Nothing whatsoever. The only suggestion from my GP was go private. I could, I have the money but have really strong feelings in this respect and am very against it. I’m torn what to do. At the moment I’m comfortable without too much pain. It’s just breathing hurts!

I wonder if I got a dinghy and floated into the Kent coast I could get some quick treatment.

Seems to be rather common at the moment. My sister was due to have laser treatment due to opacification on both eyes after cataract surgery earlier this year. Her appointment was today. It has been cancelled. She is effectively blind until she can have the treatment.

If you can afford it then get it sorted privately. Why suffer just to be a martyr?

I feel quite strongly about this Phil. I’ve paid early this year for my son to see a specialist and have for myself several times in the past. I find it morally reprehensible. However I was tempted but having left a message yesterday with the specialists secretary he will see me Wednesday at his nhs clinic. I take back all I said about the nhs. Well some of it.

When your'e sorted Lets, grab that dinghy you mentioned and float up near me. At the very least you'll get a summer home to come to.

Wishing you well mate.

A major problem is the outdated 1970's organisation structure. The NHS is the third or fourth largest employer in the world (depending how you count it), and employs over 4% of the UK working population.

Total number of employees is 1.7 million of which less than a third (483,000), have any medial qualifications. this includes doctors. nurses, midwives and health visitors. What the other one million plus are doing for their money is anyone's guess.

I'm no accountant but it seems unsustainable to me...

Belated happy new year to everyone.

Christmas this year wasn’t good. I went down with some lergy starting on Christmas Eve (there seems to be so much going round at the moment, a trip to the supermarket is like going to a TB ward with everyone coughing & wheezing). Christmas Day I felt like one of the walking dead and resigned myself to being housebound for a bit so for the next few days I stayed in and festered on the settee with a box of hankies, soothers and the remote control for the telly. Unfortunately had a really bad throat so had to stop my thyroid medication until it subsided which didn’t help. Did a couple of covoid tests but they were negative.
Started to feel a bit better day before New Years Eve, so ventured one of the local dog friendly pubs for a couple of hours, dog was pleased he does enjoy his plain crisps.
Presumed that was it, still had a bit of a cough but thought that would go. However I started to feel “off” again yesterday and this morning it appears to have come back, not so much of a sore throat this time but coughing a lot which isn’t good as I am supposed to be starting invigilating exams from Thursday.

Nipped in doctors this morning as I am a bit wheezy on my chest on the off chance they had any appointments (forever the optimist as my doctors came 47th out of 47 in Nottingham) to be told no appointments (no surprise there then). Asked when the next batch would be released and was told the practice manager was off until next week and some should be released after she is back. Left it at that with the parting shot I would come back when I had pneumonia. (This practice is still taking on new patients even though appointments are like hens teeth.) will try the 8am lottery if it doesn’t get any better.

Got back home and received an email which was sent out to all patients saying a lot of the staff are off sick so only doing appointments for emergencies.
You could not make this up:sickly:

Medice, cura te ipsum... Physician, heal thyself....springs to mind.   I have noticed, recently, people are wearing masks again.

After coughing most of last night and still not feeling good I decided to phone doctors this morning at the 8am appointment scramble.  I was number 7 in the queue and didn’t hold out much hope of getting an appointment to be honest. Finally got through at about 8.25 and to my amazement got a telephone appointment with my registered doctor. He rang about 8.50am, went through everything, asked if I had done a covoid test, had done 3 last one yesterday, he asked me to go down to the surgery for 9.30am to see him. Didn’t really feel like going but got wrapped up and off I trudged.

When I got there the waiting room there was one other person in there and we sat and coughed and wheezed in unison. Got in quite quickly and had a general MOT, blood pressure, oxygen saturation etc. plus chest and throat.

He seemed to think it is viral but has given me antibiotics and said to wait a couple of days before taking them as it may clear up on its own. Also had a blood test as the medication I am on for my thyroid can affect your immune system although I am on the lowest dose possible.
When I was going out the surgery there was just one person sat there, not the same one as before I went in. It does make me wonder how many doctors are actually there seeing patients.
Anyway, can’t grumble about the treatment I received, wasn’t rushed and went thru everything, answering all my questions. The main problem is getting an appointment which won’t get any easier as they are still taking on new patients which seems crazy, but I believe they do get paid for each patient they have. No doubt I will be corrected if this is incorrect.
So am now snuggled under my heated throw along with my dog who is gently snoring by my side. Going to eat chocolate, between coughing fits, watch some strange programmes on Netflix and fester quietly!
