Fairlad 12
My mum's was 90088, used mainly at Bracebridge Drive CO-OP during the 60's.
Mess 630
My mum's divi number was 9253. I think she signed up in 1946 when she and my dad moved into Elstree Drive Beechdale. A battery powered Co-op milk float used to come round too. It was a funny looking red vehicle. The wheatsheaf logo was on the front. A red Co-op bakery van also used to come round. They had some delicious looking stuff but mum always bought her bread from the Co-op on Ranmere Road. There was a Co-op chemists next door. Both flattened now I think. I used to love the shops on Ambergate Rd. the newsagents in particular. There was Mr Oliver's off license, a wonderful hardware store that smelt of paraffin and The Post Office which had a Bear Brand stocking advertising picture stuck on the window. It always reminded me of Teddy in Andy Pandy.
Beekay 5,236
Don't know about me mum's divi number but mine, opened in 1964 is/was 188762. Don't know if it's still valid, as we don't have a co-op anywhere near us.
Stavertongirl 1,723
My mums was 109067 and they used to put it thru on the tills with sliding handle thingies (technical term) on the top of the till. I can remember going somewhere in town and queuing so she could withdraw it. Was it possibly at the big Co-op in town? You have a plastic card now BK that they swipe through the till.

Fairlad 12
Mum had an order book that was handed in to the Bracebridge Drive CO-OP on a Thursday and the groceries were delivered on the Friday. I remember Mum giving the Delivery boy 6d each time. I also remember the red milk floats, i used to help the milkman out sometimes, I would only have been around 10, and remember one day going up into Strelley village and he let me have a drive! Mum preferred the Landers Bakery bread, he used to deliver every day too on Fairnley Road.

Then you carried on around the counter to finish your shopping, you paid for your shopping / money went into brass bullet shape to be transported though a brass tube to the office upstairs. Change came back same way. Gave shop girl your address for groceries to be dilverd. What a Service.

Yes, heaven help you if you forgot to give them your divi number. Ours is long forgotten. I wonder how many on here use similar unforgettable numbers as passwords

It's just that we went to the supermarket for the first time in 14 months and chose our very own items. What an experience, I had to go and have a lie down in a dark room with relax music playing in the background, that way I recovered from the trauma. Might write a book about the whole issue. Maybe Uncle Brew and Uncle Phil will mentor me.........(tongue firmly in cheek).
