  1. Past hour
  2. Margie your post reminded me of my grand parents, (living near the sea.)grandad used to take me along what I supposed were the mud flats to collect Samphire and grandma used to pickle it. Funny the things that you think you’ve forgotten
  3. I always have basil on the kitchen windowsill all the others grow outside. Origano ( Italian)we get dried from either Sicily or Calabria much better taste. Fresh we just leave to look pretty! Lemon balm ,Pineapple sage and normal sage live together happily. We already have figs quite big which surprised us. It’s freezing cold at the moment and very windy. Tomorrow will be hot , just you wait, bet it will be.
  4. We are getting concerned with the weather too. It’s cold ( freezing too ) one day then the flooding day we are sunbathing. No wonder people are suffering with colds and sore throats
  5. Today
  6. @Beekay I know that no official interest is paid but we do get prizes most months, sometimes really good ones, and it’s better than stuffing notes under your mattress
  7. I wouldn't call interest rates high. My generation were paying 15% on our mortgages at one point. That's high. It never went much below 7-8%. Time, now, for us to get something back for the years of derisory interest on savings.
  8. You don't lose your original stake, but, as there is no interest paid, because of rising prices etc, your stake is worth less as time moves on , from when you first started.
  9. Premium Bonds are paying out more while interest rates are high. When they drop, so will the prizes. Meanwhile, we’re very happy with our returns. i dont see it as gambling (which I don’t do) as you never lose your original ‘stake’.
  10. I think I may I have a few PB’s from childhood but have no idea how many or if any. Someone I know were in a corner shop and the person in front of them won a modest amount on a scratch card. They had never previously bought one but were prompted to have a go and bought a Euro millions card. Won £300k.
  11. £100 here, first win in years.
  12. I'm wating to see what effect, if any, voter ID has had on turn out. but so far though the Tories are taking a bashing Labour is not gathering the big swing they were predicting. It seems likely voters are disillusioned with the whole charade at the moment
  13. Soon (in June) I am going on a cruise. Only on a London canal though. From Little Venice to Camden Should be fun , wonder if they have shows and dancing.
  14. I think mine bought more then 54 years ago( long before we were married) have been put on the bonfire.
  15. I bought my bonds in tranches of £5k, so all ten lots have different prefix letters. I keep meticulous records of their performance and, over the years, I noticed that bonds from two lots out of the ten have won far more often than any of the others. I'm no mathematician but that does not look like random chance to me. However, they're doing nicely so I'm not complaining.
  16. This says a lot about him. Johnson was the person responsible for introducing voter ID. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68947834
  17. Amid the plethora of voting going on in the UK at the moment for councils, Mayoral and Crime Commissioner positions it appears that at the moment of those eligible to vote 68% did not. Be careful when they report that so and so got 53 % of the vote that means he got 53% of the 32% of people who actually voted. It will be interesting to see how many voted in the poll for East Midlands Combined County Authority Surely it is time for change.
  18. My father held the maximum amount of bonds for a couple of years but didn’t win a bean. I’ve never held any. I do the lottery and Euromillions and consider that my contribution to charitable causes.
  19. My husband has 4 Premium Bonds, bought at £1 each in the 1960s when he first started work. In 1975, soon after we got married, one of those bonds won £50, which at the time was about a week’s wages. Since then he’s got nothing but every time we’ve moved house I’ve informed NS&I of our new address, you never know!! He’s really not interested in purchasing more.
  20. I have enjoyed my working life too Ben. Never really got to travel with work in the UK unless you count endless trips from Notts to Rolls Royce at Derby, Filton and Bar'lick. When I came to Oz I worked for a major US owned automotive components supplier with all, the then, six manufacturers being customers over time. I was lucky enough to travel all over the world, mostly USA, Japan, India, Malaysia and many places in Europe including the UK. I moved into the tooling industry and started servicing the USA with small to medium mould tools for consumer products. Then I moved to where we mad
  21. Yes, and taking the scalp of Forest and helping them go down too will be high on their list of wants.
  22. Oz, I agree with you that Forest are in real danger of losing their focus which is to bag as many points as they can manage from their last three games. It does appear as if Nuno is getting his excuses ready should Forest fail to stay up. Luton will be trying very hard not to lose to Everton tonight and a draw looks likely. Should they win then the pressure on Forest will get cranked up another notch which they could really do without. Again a draw looks the most likely outcome but jangled nerves can produce funny results. Don't forget The Blades are definitely relegated which m
  23. Boots have apparently been around for 175 years. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-68936424
