  1. Well I was wondering why we hadn’t had any Trick or Treaters around here this evening, considering there are a few local young families. Just been outside and see that we have a ‘POLICE CRIME SCENE- DO NOT ENTER’ banner right across the double electric gates! No idea where that came from but it will be saved for next year We’ve got lots of sweeties to eat ourselves now! Oh and 47 years ago tonight my husband and I had our first proper date, he took me to The Chateau for a steak dinner.

  2. Thankyou BK , it's been hard. Consultant said 4-5 days but it turned into 13 because a lung deflated and was put onto a rispiration unit which they only took off last midweek. I've just got to practice walking now. My spine has been straightened quite a bit and now I don't stoop or lean to one side. Put like that seems like I was well past it. Thanks once again

  3. Had a lovely day yesterday. Since coming home from hospital Sunday, I have to try to get my walking normal again so at first I walked up and down the driveway many times. In the afternoon my youngest grandson walked with me along the road. I had my arm tucked into his and he walked all the way holding my hand and caressing it. He was so tender. Then he started reminiscing of all the things we'd done together and the little things he'd learned like stitching a button on, embroidery and his favorites making cakes and biscuits. As we approached home again he said that when I felt better coul

  4. That's what happens after a death , so sad. Lizzie I know you've done a lot for your neighbour and I was sorry to hear of his death. Especially when no one else was interested in his health only the outcome of his death.

  5. We only had one group of 'trick or treaters' and they were family...... our son, a niece, 2 grandchildren and a couple of their little cousins. The children WEREN'T dressed in ghoulish costumes - in fact our granddaughter looked beautiful in a flowing dress and flowers in her hair, 2 boys were Superheroes and another was a dinosaur! After they'd gone, we switched off all the lights at the front of the house and we haven't had anymore visitors, I'm pleased to say...... The village children know that they are only supposed to visit houses which have a pumpkin outside .... and we do

  6. Nonna, so pleased to read your positive posts. You must be relieved that the operation is over and you can now just concentrate on your recovery. I think your caring grandson sounds a real treasure! We've had a busy day today with 2 funerals! The first was at midday in a neighbouring village and it was standing room only for some people, who had to stand in a side room - the church was full to bursting! The deceased was a gentle man who had touched many lives by his caring attitude and his wisdom.... loved him! We couldn't stay for the wake as we had to rush ba

  12. True here I reckon. He’s got 4 nieces and nephews, only one ever visits him and that is about every 2 or 3 months. I hope he leaves it all to the local Cat Rescue!

  15. On the subject of lavender, it grown on an industrial scale here. What most of the growers do is take cuttings of their better, more vigorous, plants, and grow them on to replace the old woody plants with the new ones. The old plants are burned. The timescale of this varies but often every three years or so. More forward looking growers use cell culture methods of propagation - this method avoids the transmission of diseases from the old plants.

  16. And of course the Beatles changed the whole game. They moved away from 'Mon-June-Swoon' stuff into much more realistic and pointed lyrics which pervaded not only their 'documentary' songs like 'Rain', 'Penny Lane' etc., and their 'psychedelic/surreal lyrics' such as Strawberry Fields Forever', but also their love songs. 'Girl' being the pinnacle for me, but there are many others... 'This Boy', 'Yesterday' 'Here, There and Everywhere' and so on, through to the frustrated venom of 'I'm Down' and the stark admonition of 'You Can't Do That'. They not only changed lyrics, but also song struc
