  2. I used to drive one like that for MAKEMSON, when I worked part time for them. I did a colliery run from top of St.Albans road, via Bestwood road to Calverton colliery. I've also worked as a conductor on their Bulwell market to Bestwood village, on Saturdays and Sundays. I'm fairly sure that was a lowdecker with the long bench seats and gangway down the starboard side.( the one in Oz's link).

On May 2nd its the day you vote now we have had leaflets come though our door which say Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire councils are to join forces, they say that the region will be given powers it has not had before with control over a level of funding that will enable long term improvement in the performance of the regional economy of the regional of the prosperity of its people. Question ? Did anybody ask or vote for them to join together.? not

Surely you mean Makemsons There is a great slideshow here with some shots of a Marsden store for our Ben The Omnibus Society | Makemson, Bulwell, Nottingham (zenfolio.com) There is also some good stuff on the Bulwell photos Facebook site including a red and cream Makemsons single decker in a montage of a number of their coaches.

  5. Our cats brought 2 baby goldfinches in yesterday, alive but too damaged and young to rescue. Breaks my heart. They usually account for about 20 fledglings and adult birds pa. Wish we didn't have them. They also killed several frogs a couple of months ago. Oddly enough they were all male frogs and there is still un fertilised spawn in the pond. Why the hell we have domestic cats I do not know. Lovely creatures but killers.

  10. At a previous house we had a cat flap in the utility room door, inherited from a previous occupant. There was a horrible Ginger Tom that used to come in and stink the place out when we first moved there so something had to be done. We tried unsuccessfully locking it and one night the Tom cat got in and obviously couldn’t get out. He was running up the walls knocking down washing powder etc from high shelves, he went berserk and next morning when we went in that room we thought he was going to attack us! However, he didn’t come back into the house again!

  11. I admit that we’re not cat lovers and we have a bigger garden than all our neighbours, most of whom seem to have two cats each. Every time I look out of the window there’s one of them sneaking around (and pooing) however we wouldn’t ever harm a cat or any animal for that matter.

  14. Any fruit and veg that you grow yourself always tastes better than shop bought. A classic example is strawberries. Those huge ones from supermarkets are awful, give me a smaller sweeter home grown one any day of the week. The storage and carbon footprint on shop produce takes the flavour away. I grow melons in my greenhouse and although small they are like nectar.

  15. Just came across some information on season ticket prices for the EPL All prices are in GBP as a I can't get a pound sign on this forum Forest 850 - 550 A child ticket is 190 Arsenal, the most expensive, 2050 - 1073 A child ticket is 1025.25 - 536.50 Not including the other relegation threatened clubs Forest's is one of the cheaper ones. How does the average Joe afford to take himself and two kids to the game on a Saturday?

  17. A couple of months ago we had a tree felled in our garden and the concern was that a nest box on the tree has been used by blue tits in recent years so my husband built a wooden construction and concreted it in close to where the tree used to be and then attached the nest box at a similar height and facing exactly the same direction. Happily the blue tits started using the box and we watched them going in and out. Since last weekend there didn’t seem to be any activity at all so yesterday hubby climbed precariously up a ladder and lifted the lid to see a clutch of eggs but no parent. We were

  18. There’s nothing nicer than fresh, home grown tomatoes. Soon I’ll be lunching daily on tomato salads. Sliced tomatoes, olive oil, wine vinegar, pepper and salt, garnished with chopped chives, with wholemeal bread to mop up the ‘gravy’.

  19. Years ago, when I worked at 24 Low Pavement, some of us grew tomato plants in pots placed in front of the large, Georgian windows and overlooking the garden at the rear. They did well there as they got lots of sunlight. At lunchtimes, fresh tomatoes, straight from the plants tasted very good. There is nothing to compare with the taste and smell of homegrown tomatoes.

  20. I don't have a greenhouse or a shed, but have managed to successfully start off some tomato seeds that I've had wrapped up for nearly two years. As it's my first time, I'm looking to Mrs.B to guide me along. I believe they may be some type of Beefsteak toms. Edit. Should'nt be on this thread I know, but who's watching.

  22. Oz, I think you need to look at Burnley’s remaining fixtures too. With all the other distractions surrounding Forest the players are pretty close to giving up and they probably won't win any of their remaining games. They may scrape a couple of draws but I can see an unexpected outcome emerging that sees Burnley beating Forest on the last day of the season meaning the Reds and Luton are relegated. It could happen.
