  1. Yeah, but with all those steps it restricted the space that could have been taken up by dodgems and waltzers.
  2. The extreme right hand bottom corner of the picture has the mineral railway running into it...the kids playground was there right in that corner of what was to become Melbourne Park ...it was a triangular shape just off that picture with the railway embankment running along the back...A set of swings a roundabout and one of these....
  3. A clip round the ear?....To do that nowadays there would have to be four of 'em kitted out with the latest sprays and gadgets......And why when you're being sat on by half of the night shift does one of 'em always say "Calm down"...a bit like being told "Don't panic" while having your face licked by an escaped tiger.
  4. The new camera does show heat spots, but whether the camera itself is working correctly I've no idea.I did expect something different when they announced it. Anyway....Egg one
  5. It was there around three this morning...I spotted it on the new heat camera.

  7. 'L' Shape...Mapperley Park...nurses...parties... Hearing of a party, yours truly and a mate loaded our minis with fellow nutters from the 'L' and high tailed it up Mapperley...he went one route and I went another...We met at the junction of Magdala And Lucknow Ave....unfortunately from different directions and neither of us stopped in time. I bent the front end of mine and he bent his... Mother was not amused...it was her mini. Put a bit of a dampener on the party that did.
  8. I'm Ashfield too...as from next week I shall be burning all flammable waste that won't recycle as are most of my neighbours. I hear a remake of Jack the Ripper is being made in Sutton as the special effects department will have a ready made London smog.
  9. Last time I was down there with some of the lads we got no trouble from the locals.....
  10. A great uncle of mine was a butcher in The 'Shambles' for many years. Imagine that meat hanging in the summer....flies must have loved it!
  11. Little story from the time of introduction of the two tier post... My brother was a regular with a Newcastle bookies...fixed odds on the results of a footy match. Nothing over the top just a few quid winnings now and then. He was late posting that week but sent it anyway......And they paid out!! For the next 3 weeks he posted his bet on the Sunday morning. They must have thought it was a new two tier system cock up and paid him accordingly....That's the way to gamble...the day AFTER the results are published.(WONDER IF I CAN DO THE LOTTERY SUNDAY MORNING?)
  12. Hardly......Lulu born 1948...Beach Boys formed 1961
  13. You need therapy! The last Sunday paper I bought was a a couple of years ago when I realised that I was paying for page after page of adverts and figured they should be paying me for reading the damn thing.
  14. Had a Disco for years to pull a big trailer...looked brilliant but got rid for next to nothing 'cos it was a rot box underneath and cost a bomb in welding for the MOT.
  15. If it's illegal to risk serious injury or death, by not taking proper measures with a back up safety harness....ie car seat belts.....Where's the difference?
  16. Strange to think that just 50 years before that photo of Cliff tons, that section of road was more or less a bog flooding in bad weather...And even stranger if you stand there today that below your feet is stone from the Fosse originally quarried by Roman engineers nearly 2000 years ago. http://www.nottshistory.org.uk/articles/tts/tts1931/itinerary1931p3.htm
  17. When my son was born the Mother in Law wanted Dicken..I made it clear his name was not gonna get twisted into 'Dick'ead'....I stuck with the simple Martin and nothing else....fine till he came home from school in tears because they were calling him 'Fartin' Martin'.....You can't win
  18. I enjoyed listening to him...but lets face it all these famous people popping their clogs lately...they have seen and done more in a few months than most of us do in a lifetime...Rik Mayall,Richard Briers,Cilla Black,Bob Monkhouse........ And it just shows you, wealth can't protect you from fate....although it can soften the blow considerably.
  19. If I just want a site full of Nottingham facts and figures I'll buy a book.
  20. Last time in there was Silver Wedding Anniversary of future inlaws. They got up for the first dance and proceeded to do a quick step with all the fancy footwork and jerking of the head routine of a pair of pros....(they'd been going to dance classes for years) all us young uns were in stitches.... and trying to hide our hilarity of course.... The only thing missing was a number on their backs.
