  1. It's 3 weeks ago today since he last logged on. Hopefully it may be something such as moving house and his broadband isn't working. Bear in mind that mick2me heard from Alisoncc the other day after a 3 month gap, so surprises are still possible.
  2. They won't be able to tell us it's black over there, because that would be very non-PC.
  3. If you're really desperate for it... http://www.nottinghampost.com/Birth-city-s-new-TV-channel/story-20876243-detail/story.html
  4. I don't think it will be council propaganda, it will be worse than that. It will be ultra-local news and features telling you things which you never realised you'd previously missed. And now the news from the street next to you...the people at number 36 are having a new shed; and the man at 15 is planning to clean his car on Sunday.
  5. It's come up in previous years http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9460&hl=%20grand%20%20national and I'm with those who agree that it is on a par with bear-baiting. I wonder how many horses will be put down in the name of "sport" this time.
  6. Was it any of these? http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11100&hl=%2Bfactory+%2Bwhistle#entry173168
  7. This one I think. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26257117
  8. As others have said, the new is on the site of the old, although the new is much bigger. One major change which happened was that half the length of Barker Gate disappeared under the new building. This is the stretch of Barker Gate which no longer exists, the old Ice Stadium on the right. That length of road included a well-known pub, the Old Cricket Players, which is now approximately under the entrance area of the Arena.
  9. Does that make it almost visible on the extreme left here? http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM000679&prevUrl=
  10. A bump of 7 years. Is that a new record?
  11. Cutting edge technology! https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=power+samas&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=42A9U4z-K42EhQeHz4D4Dw&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1277&bih=704
  12. The first two are the same person, but the third and fourth are different models so there are at least three different people involved in the series.
  13. Any bets on how long he will last? http://www.nottinghampost.com/Stuart-Pearce-today-sign-Nottingham-Forest/story-20904025-detail/story.html
  14. But you haven't told us what is is, or where it is, and what you will be doing Maybe we all want to come and watch you working.
  15. Locally, there is this in Stapleford. No idea of the origin or meaning.
  16. Within this thread (which partly answers your question) is a link to another thread which gives even more answers http://nottstalgia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11429
  17. It wasn't what you wrote that was wrong, the point is that you had used the "Quote" button to quote from the post immediately before yours. There's no need to do that because what you said will automatically follow on from the comment you were referring to. Using the Quote button like that increases the amount of storage space used on the Server for the whole forum, and it could soon reach its limit if there are too many quotes too often. So carry on writing, but don't carry on quoting (too much).
  18. Barton had a lot of services from Broad Marsh, but did that include one to Bramcote? And did Trent use Broad Marsh at all? I'm not certain, but I'm sure an expert will be along soon.
  19. Don't forget it's April 1st, so the next announcement will be that the job has gone to Mr E Presley.
  20. Arkwright Street http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM018610&prevUrl=
  21. I don't know the names of any nut shops.....but on the question of where did the shopkeepers from Alfred Street all go to? Similar to my theory about Willougbhy Street shops, the Alfred Street shopkeepers were presumably supposed to move to the Marple Square precinct which was near the bottom of Woodborough Road. But that was a failure as well. PTP only has one photo of it, and it sums it up very well. http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/frontend.php?action=printdetails&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;NTGM015916&prevUrl=
  22. I'd guess they answer is that most of those business owners found themselves having to look for something else to do I can think of the example of what happened at Willoughby Street, Lenton. That was an area with a lot of shops similar to Alfred Street/Arkwright St/Denman Street. When Willoughby Street was cleared, the council designed a shopping precinct which was supposed to replace all the old shops which had been there for years. Back in the 60s they thought that years of history could be replaced by a few concrete boxes. http://goo.gl/maps/SQ0S4 The precinct was never successful, a few
  23. Yes Chrissy it is. It's just about possible to read the caption saying that place in the photo was closed down and the licence transferred to the "new" Crown on the island. The road disappearing off to the left is Faraday Road, and the road off to the right is the end of St Peter's Street. This is the scene today http://goo.gl/maps/czQTX
  24. It still is a working quarry to some degree. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attenborough_Nature_Reserve If you look at the aerial view and wander around on Streetview, you can see the still-operating part of it. http://goo.gl/maps/Nwsjo The cafe is pretty good too.
  25. Slightly outside the timescale of the original question, but if you haven't seen this before from Lenton Times...... http://www.lentontimes.co.uk/images/gallery/beyond_lenton/beyond_lenton_wollaton_1948.htm
