  3. But if I may say so Compo, wonderful crap and junk!!
  4. So pleased things are keeping on the right way Michael, I and no doubt others of us know too well what you and Mrs B are going through. Sounds like you're attacking in the right way my friend.
  5. Trevor, sounds fair dinkum, I hope all goes smoothly for the move and that you and Mrs T are very happy there. When I read your post I thought that you were moving to Cornwall!
  6. Dick West, as the opening titles described him "The All American Boy"

  10. Sad news but at 93 had a good innings. Never missed The Avengers and influenced my desire for a Bentley Big Six and a brolly; achieved the brolly!!
  11. Chulla, I reckon you thought that they were orange and fluffy !
  12. Me too Tompa, I was one of those noisy annoying kids who tried to get an echo as I went across. Obnoxious child!!
  13. Trust all goes well for you Blondie, stay positive and stick with it gel!!
  14. Another milestone Trevor, well done! Don't you ever sleep down there in your antipodean paradise?
  15. Welcome to the Forum Wak, there's loads of stuff to keep you busy and we look forward to hearing your memories and recollections.
  16. Mrs Gregory`s chippy in Rudd on the corner of High St and The Nook attracted we kids like moths to a flame and was THE place to be seen!! F and C were lovely, and the 2d fish bits were great value, especially with financial constraints of the time.
  17. Welcome to the Forum serrie, looking forward to your postings with your recollections, Armour Star was one I'd totally forgotten!
  18. Happy Birthday Karlton, have a good day out walking up and down that ski slope to the Cathedral!
  19. So sorry to hear this and for your your personal loss Oldace. I have acquired many of his photo compilations over the years, the last being just a few months back "Nottingham Then and Now". I am always looking out for any others to add to my collection.
  20. The Castle replaced the original pub called The Nottingham Castle, a Tennants house, in the early 60`s and was a typical characterless "modern" pub. My Gran and Great Aunt along with a few of their neighbours were relocated from Comyn St and Gt Freeman St to the Newark Crescent area and The Castle drew quite a few regulars from there. Good to see that the place still keeps a tradition of an unaccountable name!
  21. Michael, nothing to be concerned about with regular blood tests. My daughter had to go to St James in Leeds every day for 10 weeks for radiotherapy, chemo once a week and brachytherapy once a month and had a blood test before each chemo session as a matter of course. Keep up the positive outlook as best you can, it really does help with the treatment ongoing as it is. As with everyone else here, my thoughts are with you both and your family.
  22. I grew up in St Ann's and although it was known as one specific area of Nottingham, there was still a mixed community within it with a cross section of population albeit all working class, with housing stock ranging from decent to downright atrocious!
  23. Amazing to think that he then became one the best Aussie wicket keepers before coming a cropper on Sky Sports!!
  24. Catfan, I had the same thought as you, though I reckon it must be in Compo`s museum! Fond memories of getting the train to Grantham in the school holidays for watching the traffic on the mainline with my Ian Allen Combine and snap in my duffel bag. I once was able to afford a Day Rover and went up and down to Donny and Peterborough, biggest adventure in my rather mundane childhood!

    Pobs

We had a little discussion about pobs in early Feb from #1685 in the "things our parents used to say" thread. A few of us had this delicacy as kids and continue today with variations on the milk ingredient of the recipe!
