  1. Paul says he used Fluxite in the 1950s for soldering joints in radios, and he still has the original tin!
  2. Paul mows the lawn and we both do weeding. Any big plans for changing things is my domain, but carrying out those plans and any heavy digging etc is down to Paul.
  3. I often just put everything straight back in my trolley after it has gone through the checkout, then bag it up afterwards either in the store or at the car. That way, you're not holding anyone up
  4. There's so many events I'd like to re-live..... don't know where to start. I often relive them in my memory (as we all do) but sometimes wonder if I'm seeing some of them through rose-tinted glasses? There are lots of days in my teenage years that were very special to me - going out dancing and meeting new boyfriends come to mind, but especially the day I met Paul. I'd like to re-live our Wedding Day and take in all the details - it seemed to pass so quickly, and I'd also love to re-live the first time I saw each of our babies. I'd like to have the opportunity to be with my lovely mum an
  5. Lizzie, so sorry you have to have yet another procedure. It's good that you are eating a bit better, though. Obviously we'll be thinking and praying for a successful outcome for you xx
  6. Actually Ben, Paul does have to be careful what he eats but he plays table tennis twice a week which keeps him fit. Also, he is always the one who ends up stacking up all the chairs at church and helping me to clear up for over 2 hours after each of the 2 Toddler .Groups .... and he is still working outside at the moment putting some shelves up in the shed after clearing up the fallen leaves and cutting the lawn. He is very active!
  7. Sorry you're still feeling rough, Catfan. I reckon it's better to go without food completely when you're feeling grotty - just drink plenty of fluids and sleep a lot! That's what Paul did when he felt nauseous last weekend and he is now better (although he lost 3 Kg in weight).
  8. I think it is the naming/identifying of teachers or other adults who behaved inappropriately that is wrong. I've already posted a comment about this recently on a different thread
  9. I was inspired to start this topic when I listened to Enigma's choice of song in 'what are you listening to now'. It was 'When I was a boy I had a dream' i wonder what dreams you had when you were young....... have any of them been fulfilled, are you still waiting, or have you given up on them long ago? As a teenager, all I really dreamed about was finding a man I could love, and who would love me, getting married and having children - preferably triplet girls for some strange reason!! I was never interested in pursuing a career, even though I completed all my nursing training. Al
  10. I know nothing about this school or the teachers but I feel uncomfortable that certain ones are being named. They may have friends or relations who are on this site and I would hate Nottstalgia, or certain members, to be accused of libel. (delete this post if you want)
  11. But what about those lovely coach trips?
  12. WW, so you didn't follow your dad's advice?
  13. RR - that was funny, especially as I'd started to say it before I realised!
  14. Willow Wilson, love your description of the waltzers at Goose Fair. I particularly remember Paul Anka's Diana and the Kalin Twins..... They will always remind me of Goose Fair and my youth. I remember the lads who worked the waltzers would always spin us girls faster so they screamed more. I would really love to go there again but I suspect it would be different from my memories and I don't want to spoil them! And I wouldn't go on the walzer now - it would wreak havoc on my neck and back I think...
  15. Welcome to the forum, Ge off. Nice to see there's someone else who lives in Cambs..
  16. I loved the late fifties - from about 1956 actually - as the music changed from silly/cute little songs from Val Doonican etc to mostly guitar accompanied songs from Tommy Steele, Buddy Holly, then the Everley Brothers and the rest... I suppose we tend to like those years when we were changing from little children to teenagers, and deciding who and what we wanted to identify with.. I lost interest in music a bit by the mid sixties as I got married and then had children in quick succession. I was too occupied with singing Nursery Rhymes then!
  17. Willow Wilson, I've just bought the kindle edition of 'The Music of the Primes' to read on my iPad. There's no pictures on it, though - hope that won't be a problem?
  18. Before I'd seen your post, Rog, I asked Paul where he would have liked to be and he said exactly the same as you! Adding that he would have liked to be one of the inventors at that time...
  19. I never put 'flowers in my hair' - I was too busy washing baby sick out of it! Pity really as I liked the music and clothes, although couldn't afford to buy any at that time! I think I was born too soon...
  20. Hope you'll soon be better, Catfan. Our appointment for a flu jab isn't until October 14 so hope it doesn't get to us before then!
  21. FLY, I try not to plod because that's how old people walk!
  22. Interesting thoughts and ideas, Willow Wilson. (I believe the universe didn't build itself, though!) Some of your ideas made me think of a simple analogy - our bodies. They functioned long before we knew all the intricacies of how they worked and before any textbooks were written. Maybe that isn't quite the same as the Universe stuff but I thought I'd just share it. I, too, am fascinated by prime numbers btw.
  23. Catfan, I saw the speech by Bill Gates on Facebook yesterday and gave it a 'like'. I think it is very true for many children and young people, although I do believe schools and parents need to be sensitive where rules 2 and 8 are concerned.
  24. I wonder what keywords trigger their visits...
  25. Catfan, Someone is bound to comment that they always knew you were a good blogger, so I innocently thought I"d say it first xx
