  1. Firbeck; went up Catstone tonight on the south side round the reservoir, the authorities are clearing the footpaths and laying a stone surface for a long distance track, sure to be proudly announced when done, still fab views to the south beyond Leicester and east to Belvoir, west to God knows where, glimpses north across the M1. Will go back in clearer weather, Wollaton shews its best face from there, didn't know I liked it so much till I saw from Catstone!
  2. Wollaton car thing, Wonderful, hard to know where to look next. Still can't make a decision, is the XK150 the one or an E type? ;; win the lottery , buy both. The nicest item there, as of last year, is the the ally 3 wheeler built by the owner AND has a tow-bar! Real car lovers are sound people aren't they? All arrived regardless of the threat of rain, I liked the steam engine where kids could sound the whistle for 20p! Spent more time around the junk stalls than the car lines. And regardless of the stuff about too many foreign people hereabouts, the people with unnotty accents seemed so
  3. I notice that at the fabulous done over Midland station they have had to finally reinstate big printed alphabetic departure posters to let folks know which train they can choose from, some ideas aren't broken so don't need mending!!
  4. I know nothing about railway colours mate but that picture tells a hundred stories, the carriages are repainted, I DO like the dinky painted details, the diesel dragger is only smoking a bit, we can see the bloke in the window so the glass is clean (from the workshop , won't last long ) I reckon its near Leicester, and the wreckage at the trackside tells of upgrading to the signal system, new ballast and track but looks like WOODEN sleepers and chair blocks not springs. Yes maroon is classy and black is the tops but how can anyone keep black shiny? If you took the picture then you had a g
  5. Knobby Nomates here, Facebook has stopped sending me suggestions and reminders, OK by me.
  6. Geoff Cooke.!! I spoke with someone this week who mentioned seeing Geoff Cooke pushing his bike in the car park towards the new Velodrome at Derby, could it really be the same Geoff? I'll double check. and just to catch a bit of glory, I worked for a while with a man who rode sometimes behind Ray Booty, an iron man, he equalled Roger Bannister on two wheels but it all never made it into the Daily Mirror, perhaps because he didn't go to Cambridge Uni
  7. TV help. ! OH TV HELP. I thought you meant you know tv help with tights and stuff , can't help with televisions , sorry, or Virgin stuff, sorry, got a, no, lets let it drop.
  8. Pixie; you are doing nothing wrong, just do a bit less and do it slowly, it's routine but never see it as boring - that will wear you both down. Get a blowup paddle pool outside on a warm afternn, chuck the kids in and you two get soaked! And find a few quid for a cheap caravan near the beach. Actually you have been out during the last two years but taking care of children whilst you did it means you didn't realise so.
  9. M C @ 24 there is no such thing as infinite numbers of anything; there is only infinite everything . You will probly never be nearer to Cameron Diaz than you are to David Cameron right now. don't go eating mushy peas in bed any more luv, it just leads to bad dreams.
  10. I can believe it hippo girl, we only got one tiny three letter word. You are allowed to yell on this site!!!!
  11. Foul tempered old git what can cross the road by himself and always taking photographs of things that other people cant see and get called a pervert for doing it and riding a bike in a considerate fashion but still the car drivers dont have the confidence or skill to pass me just because I looked over my shoulder, get suspicious looks because I wear a tie sometimes, walk out of pubs where the barstaff wear T shirts with the pub name on them, never take any notice of fools honking horns at traffic islands, never eat in the street, never been seen out with a woman with a tattoo, want personalis
  12. Brilliant . the colours in these old pics, true or not are just right, thank you, and at #3, the sheep are new shorn, the sheepdog does not look like your usual Colly and the delivery lad has a shoeshine no RSM could complain about!
  13. I'm going camping near Hunstanton this wknd, faces the sunset, they have boats there, maybe I'll get a picture, with a seal.
  14. Stand near Newcastle House at midday if you can and listen to the clock bells, Priceless! and yes Talbot House will turn out to be the highest priced dwelling in Nottingham not inside The Park, it looks beautiful now even surrounded by wreckage.
  15. Carni @ 30, can't believe you should feel like leaving things behind on going out, not good! and hide them - worse. but if you write a note as to where why not put in your pocket with your pennies? won't be lost. or stick it all in an oily rag and put it in the saddlebag.
  16. Got into a DG taxi a few weeks ago, for the sake of conversation told the driver - I remember Dave Grant starting this company and advertising for drivers every week in the seventies, yes he said, Dave still drives a cab himself sometimes for a break, was the cabbie taking the Mick or is it still hard to find drivers? And is Dave still alive and with us?
  17. I do like this thread, I know the phrases when reminded but cant remember any by myself, is that the turning point? remember but can't remember? anyway- the tennaclockosses---I suspect this goes far enough back to say something about the night collections by the pail emptiers, pre WC, the Pearl Divers. They wud ave Oss and Cart and came round in the night. My old man (the second one) felt lucky when the council took him on as a binman but part of the round meant emptying the chemo bogs down at Trent Lock, we should be so lucky.
  18. Cal Brit #1 Welcome, now you have to get used to living in small spaces, closer horizons, SMALL autos, there's a guy on here who may let you into a 10HP car. But here you can walk from one city boundary to the opposite, just need strong shoes, slow down Pal, and if you are looking for Info , Clues , the Notties will overwhelm you with answers.
  19. The sunset seen from Belvoir in late summer (when there is plenty of dust to the west!) is spectacular, take a picnic and your favourite friend, wait for twilight. Whilst you may, and can, past 45 it's dosn't work quite work the way it did........
  20. I love pianos and piano music but never heard of an inventor before, the first few must have been gruesome. I spent years on piecework finishing off piano actions, came to hate them, ruined an eye from squinting at them, signed every one done and still , like a fool , go in the piano shop when in a new city and look for my sig.
  21. A few years ago when talking to a BW supervisor I mentioned that I liked a launch parked near Trent Lock, he said that it was an ex police launch passed to BW but it was not good and no use to them, it had the wrong hull shape and was difficult to steer on a canal, not seen it since. Go's to prove that good looks aren't everything.
  22. To The Engineer. I hope you get some medal from Buck House for all this. And I must say. the Vic owners seem to have gone the extra mile to help get our Emmet clock back to Nottingham. That Emmet bloke surely was a genious building stuff and making it work at all. And then a trained engineer has to move mountains to make the thing work again! Congratulations! Roland Emmet was a true ARTIST. I love his stuff, and we have a £17 million art centre that can't find exhibits to match it.
  23. A Peruvian shepherd named Alturo said this much of Love I do know a woman is fine a sheep is divine but a Llama is Numero Uno
