  1. Happy new year to everyone and lets hope its a happy and healthy one for all
  2. Interesting subject. Like some I use lavender, ginger and tea tree a lot. Summer time is worst for me as we are in an area with lots of mosquitoes. When they bite I apply a drop of lavender and spread aloe vera gel over. The swelling comes up but no pain or burning but after a few minutes I cant see where I was bitten. One year I had 17 bites on one leg but they left no purple marks as they usually do if unattended. Ginger aromatherapy oil I use with a carrier oil and massage where it hurts, its very warming and certainly eases the pain. In fact I need it now but havent any left. Teatree and
  3. Hope it keeps fine between January 14-17
  4. Happy birthday Kath have a lovely day
  5. We are expecting snow this afternoon and tomorrow hope they clear the roads before I go to the hospital. Dont know if Ive mentioned this before but at our other house also in this area we lived in a spot where the two exits were uphill or down hill. Ok when the weather was fine but when it snowed and heavily there were two snow ploughs going in the opposite direction and pushed the snow to one side as they do. BUT most often than not they would block us in ( on both sides we had fields) but they always blocked our side. My husband got really fed up of complaining to the local council and one d
  6. Know the feeling.....we live in an old farmhouse built in 1886 and has walls 60 cm thick , low ceilings in winter so cosy with pellet stove for heating and water.
  7. RR me too . Just ordinary normal sizes. I detest burgers and hot dogs. Good thing we are all not alike. Lunch today was penne with peas and wild fennel with a splash of tomato puree. Filling and different.
  8. Catfan you drink the beer after or with the pizza, That way the pizza wont give you indigestion. With all the yeast both in the pizza and beer it takes me all my time to drink 1/2 pint. Radfordred you cant put tomato and mozzarella on allbran.....course you can but it wont slice easily
  9. Kebabs.....the only kebabs I've ever eaten was at Eddy's ( Erding Tamay) on can't remember which road but more or less opposite the Elite cinema. We used to go every monday lunch time for a doner kebab ( or two on occasions ) Eddy is turkish and made the best kebabs. They were made fresh every day, nothing prepacked. He worked as chef with my husband at the restaurant at Holme Pierrepont years ago. He went on to open his turkish restaurant afterwards. Have tried a kebab here at a take away pizza place. I almost threw it back at him. Instead of the lovely slices being shaved from the

  12. Nothing to do with unusual road names but the above sign reminded me of our next door neighbour years ago. We were living here and were going to Uk for a break and mentioned to our neighbour that we were going by car. He wanted to know , as we said we were taking the channel tunnel, did we seen the fish passing by the train window and didnt the water come into the car. Which way will you go? Was his next question........blah blah then we take the Frejus tunnel. Then came the next comment or question........." When you get through do you turn left or right"????? The neighbour wa
  13. Reading again some of the christmas presents were really simple and we were happy with them , dont suppose kids nowadays would be happy to receive a Beano albumn . How things change and in such a short time.
  14. Stirring the christmas cake mixture and then licking the bowl, arguing with my brother because I thought he got more than me. I still lick the bowl .......do you?
  15. A bit late but enjoy whats left of the day. Happy birthday.
  16. Have a good rest Lizzie. You havent got room in your case for me have you.?
  17. Lizzie glad thats over for you and hope things get better for you. I've been wanting to ring you but my mum takes up all my spare time in the evenings after her badante has gone. Hopefully manage it before too long.
  18. Sorry to hear you are not too good Catfan all the best for a quick recovery. Its not nice having to stay in bed especially if you're an active person. Get well soon.
  19. My mum has to have a permanent catheter. She has Interstial Cystitis and had to have monthly instillations into her bladder.. A week ago the urologist has eliminated the instillations and she now has this catheter. I have to change the bag every other day and the nurse will come every 2 weeks to change the catheter itself. Its not what we wanted for her but on the whole its better for her because of the visits she has to do always with an ambulance and all the movement onto the examining couch especially after a hip replacement. She now cannot walk.

    Tea

On the subject of tea......years ago when we still lived in Nottingham we came down to Liguria on holiday. When we arrived at our appartment we were all gasping for a cuppa so on went the kettle and tea was brewed. Milk and sugar added.....it was salty. Thought we'd put salt in instead of sugar so on went the kettle again. The same thing happened. We then realised that the tap water was salty, which used to happen fairly often around that area. After that we always used bottled water and I still do now. I have tea sent out to me with orders from British corner shop. I dont like ital
  21. A few years ago a cashier at Aldi weighed my mums loose products , then when we came to pay I realised that what she had been charged was far too much. Went back to reweigh them and the amount was the same. After a while of arguing that the price was far too much for the amounts, the cashier was getting a bit stroppy until she "realised" that the back of the scales was lodged against some thing and it made quite a difference to the weight of the goods. Then all hell let loose of customers returning to reweigh. So be careful.
  22. Nothing to do with this discussion but I am reading a book , when I have time, about life during the war. I was born in '42 so can't remember any of it but did see the after effects and disasters it left. The book " Nella Lasts War" is a series of diaries which account for the type of life she led during the war years. It was more interesting for me because the diaries were about Barrow in Furness where I was born. Everything that was mentioned including the shipyard and Walney I knew exactly where they were. I was 4 when we came to Nottingham but went back for many holidays to stay the sc
  23. Yes that sounds like it Rog. Ive forgotten the names of most of the area but some names float back occasionally.
  24. Made me think. Italian youths are very sentimental and its evident with all the writings on the wall at bus stops and stations , train stations where their girls catch transort. They pour their hearts out with emotions and they arent afraid to show them. Are english men and youths the same. I would like to think they are? When I was younger I cant remember any emotions from them.
  25. Tat no but sentimental yes. I have a ring that my husband gave me a few years ago for our wdding anniversary. Its about 1/4 "" wide with a small ruby heart in the centre with engraving written in Italian . " Ti amo ogni giorno di piĆ¹." Which means "Every day I love you more" I love this ring and it causes a lot of comments. Does anyone else have something sentimental.?
