I think I’ve mentioned before that I remember her driving past Ashwell Street Infant School in Netherfield and we little kids stood on chairs to look out of the windows to catch a glimpse. That would have been one of those visits @Stuart.C

Apologies if this has been discussed before. One or two pubs that I remember seem to have had unusual nicknames; according to my late father, the Fox and Grapes (now the "Peggers") on Sneinton Market was known locally as the "Pretty Windows", anyone know why? Another one, a disreputable dive when I knew it during the 80's, was "Jackie Bell's" A.K.A. the Railway Hotel at Netherfield. Any more? There must have been quite a few but time has fogged my memory.

I was at playgroup with my daughter when one of the women who brings her grandchildren mentioned there used to be a mortuary opposite the fox and hounds pub in netherfield. any truth to this? I'm quite intrigued as I walk past it most days

I was having a cuppa with a friend who used to live on forester street, we was trying to figure out what the cul de sac once was before it is what it is now, can anyone remember or know? Also, theres a carpet shop (i think) on there, does anyone know what that used to be, a factory maybe? they grew up on the street and recently moved, shes wanted to get abit of history about her street for a while now as weve managed to cover a fair bit from other parts of netherfield.

Searching the 1911 census for Netherfield, I came across John Street possibly among the terraces (London North West Terrace etc). Does anyone know whereabouts this was please?

Hello - I'm originally from Netherfield where I lived until I got married. I went to Ashwell Street Infants and Junior schools then at eleven went up to Carlton Girls' Secondary Modern School in1953.

Yes Ben. When we were in Morrisons Netherfield yesterday my wife queried why were lots of people dressed for the beach. It was a pretty gruesome sight to see the grossly obese and heavily tattood women in their summer wear. Should have gone to Waitrose!

So, who DID have a house with an outside toilet.
LizzieM replied to firbeck's topic in Owt' Abaaht Nowt !
In my parents first house in Netherfield (which was rented) we had an outside loo but I don’t remember it as we moved to a brand new house in Arnold when I was a little kid and it had a lovely bathroom, so no need for even a tin bath in front of the fire. Having several loos and bathrooms in our homes since we were married is just accepted as the norm to us, we just don’t realise how fortunate we are …… mind you, isn’t Council Tax worked out on how many toilets a property has?? -
I do actually. I’ve just been to Morrison’s in Netherfield!

This is the obit for Frank Edward Wheldon , director of Wheldon's Dairy from the EP Feb 14th 1970. Death of Coun. Frank Wheldon NOTTS. It's not easy to get fresh crab in Notts. I used to get them from the Victoria Centre fish stall but I don't go into the city these days. We did have a fish seller from Grimsby who came in a van every week and he would bring crabs to order along with so called 'fresh Grimsby fish'. I dispensed with his services when I saw him buying fish from the fish counter in Netherfield Morrisons so sell at a mark up to his customers! Strangely enough he was called 'Kevin from Grimsby' but was too obese to be the one from 'Strictly'!

Anybody remember Netherfield fair in the 60's opposite the labour exchange ?

I paid for a couple of transcriptions on the 1921 Census . Could see my dad (born 1913) with my grandad , plus my dads siblings. They were living on Carlton Hill or Main Street , Carlton as it was called then. I already knew my grandad (who died 1940) had been a cinema projectionist and always wondered where he worked . Thought he probably got on a tram into town to work. This census gives employers name and it said he worked at The Alexandra Palace , Netherfield , working for a Mr C. Woodward. Later this became the Cosy Cinema . That closed in 1955.

Trent Motor Traction Route 67a
Paolo replied to Hark at it!'s topic in Pete's Nottingham Transport Forum
I don' know whether this is still of interest. I used to live near the 67a terminus. This was at the junction of Lambley Lane and Jessops Lane in Gedling. The bus would come over the Lambley Lane railway bridge, turn into Jessops Lane, and reverse back into Lambley Lane facing back towards the bridge. The route to Huntingdon Street Bus Station was through Gedling, Netherfield and Colwick. This service was later renumbered 72. -
Good to see you in your country tweeds in the garden of your stately pile BK. I suppose you'll be going to stay at Sandringham for the rest of the festive season. I'll think of you when I'm queueing at the Netherfield food bank for our annual tin of spam.

Another which I've never been in but I remember being some kind of club. Looks like it might be flats now...........on Station Road, Carlton/Netherfield. https://goo.gl/maps/mEaAaq5xs6CPYpMu5

The club on the retail park at Netherfield was the LMRC club. London Midland Railway.

Another I remember driving past, which seemed to be slightly in the middle of nowhere. On the Colwick Loop Road at Netherfield. It was something to do with railways, and this is how it looked in 2011, but it's now been replaced by a KFC drive-thru. https://goo.gl/maps/pjTJmUtwRkRfzqpeA

Look at photo No 15 in this link (and look at all the others as well). It's Station Road, Carlton/Netherfield, and in the distance above the horse & cart, there's a wall sign for a coal merchants...which may be your father's business ? https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/local-news/gallery/30-pictures-looking-back-life-2694281
