Thanks guys, that's the one. But I still can't track down Ken Smith who used to live there in the 1980s. I was given one location that he may be at, from what Ashley said a while back. But unfortunately I've not been able to find Ken yet.. Although I will pop back over to the residential home this week and ask one of the wardens, as the people who live there don't know of any Ken Smith's living there. I know that the flat above the cafe, was his last known address in 1985. But all I have is this info, Ken Smith 1+3 Bentinck Road (Then he's gone over the D, with a B or vice versa)?. Radfo

Your right Ashley Durnford Street was of Zulu Road. That chip shop was as quoted Egypt Road Ekowe St. The camera man has his back to Nottinham Road and is facing downhill toward Radford Road. Welcome Merlin but I think your mixing up some road names. Not Eland Rd but Eland St and I think you are on Zulu Rd not Egypt Road. The cobblers on the corner in a dark brown wooden shed was actually on the corner of Zulu Rd and Pearson St. As you say on the corner of Zulu Rd and Eland St was a phone box, do you remember the red and white soft top parked the that belonged to the barber who's shop was j -

Just coming up to 4th anniversary since my wife (42 years married, another 5 living together before that,) died,then last sept managed to drop the 650 honda at about 5mp, trapped under it, finally lifted off me by car driver who stopped, no injuries apart from grazing of ankle, this refused to heal, (still have scab on it) given several courses of anti biotics, so many I overdosed on such and they attacked my liver, got jaundice which led to hepitise E, nearly died in hospital and care home 5 weeks, lost 3 stone, also memory, can't recall Christas or New Year, didn't know friends etc, (plus bi

Ashley Re: #11 As a member of Chard Street Kerbstone Bumpers and a pupil at Egypt Road Primary I well recall sneeking into the gasworks on Radford Road along with other gang members and climbing the framework of one of the gasometers and running around the top making one hell of a din. Crazy. And the water in the seals was b.... filthy. I also remember going down there with an old pram to buy coke. There was an old 'Puffing Billy down there if I recall correctly. PS. I also recall scrumping pears from your back garden. Would that be correct?

Yes Manvers was for boys and Pierepoint the girls. I was at Manvers for a short time in the 50s before moving to Trent Bridge and I lived on Handel Street and Ashley Street and walked to school. Best wishes Peter -
We were fortunate that my dad had a car even in the mid forties. He worked for the Ministry of Food and needed transport for his work, I think. This meant that we were able to have trips out on summer Sundays to places like Dovedale, Matlock Bath, Newstead Abbey, Chatsworth and occasionally Skegness. After about 1950, we went to Worksop most Sundays to visit my Grandma who was in a Nursing Home called Ashley Grove. Sometimes, if it was good weather, we'd stop off near Ollerton on the way, where we had a picnic and I could have a run around in the bracken with our dog. Sounds a bit boring

I have bought my Granddaughter some Jacks and a Harmonica for a giggle from the sale in Laura Ashley. I couldn't resist it. Christmas wouldn't be the same without us all showing our skills on the Harmonica. I'll try and get first go. Good job Elf and Safety wont see us passing it round! Not quite Snobs but Jacks are better than nothing. She probably won't be bothered but I'm pretty sure us oldies will have a game and get her interested. Can't wait.Yahoo.
