  1. I really shouldn’t, but Priti Patel is my guilty pleasure, she’s smoking!
  2. I wonder if the vessel, Pride of the Yare came from Norfolk once upon a time? I only ask because that's where the River Yare is. I wonder if she used to do pleasure cruises on the broads, somewhere around Wroxham. What happened to her?
  3. Pride of the Yare and other steamers get a mention in some of these old threads. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/search/?q=pleasure&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_in=titles
  4. No BK. The Pleasure Park was on the riverside at the end of Trent Lane. The park at Radcliffe is a much larger open area.
  5. That would be the Pleasure Park Margie. I have an idea it might have been a penny or tuppence entry.
  6. I remember the Colwick pleasure park as a child. I think we used to get there by boat from a stage on the Embankment just upstream of Trent Bridge. I also remember travelling on a much bigger boat, The Pride of the Yare, which I think went from the Embankment to Radcliffe and back. When we around 11 a friend and I used to hire a rowing boat and go up as far as Wilford Bridge. No life jackets, no parents. Couldn’t do that now!
  7. I remember going to that place as well, although I was only young and didn't actually know where we were at the time. It's only later that I discovered it was Colwick. There are several old threads on the subject, but unfortunately not many photos. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/search/?q=pleasure&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_in=titles (and nice to see you're fit enough to still be posting )
  8. You tempted me CT. The map shows the area of the 'Pleasure Park', bottom of Trent Lane. The place of many childhood happy memories for me. I am always searching for photographs of the P/Park but no one seems to have any. Were we all that poor no one could afford a camera?
  9. Yesterday I had the pleasure of picking my first " crop" of lemons from my €1.99 twig. There were only 6 but I made some lemon curd, only 21/2 small jars but it was so delicious. So much juice from the smaller lemons . What a great satisfaction. Straight from the tree to the jar. Today we are starting again with making gingerbread houses of all sizes.. Again a great satisfaction when they are finished.
  10. Weather permitting we will be making up a flask (tea), wrapping up warm and walk Kai down to Wollaton Hall. We will sit on a bench by the lake and have a cuppa. Nothing very exciting but a small pleasure.
  11. Apple doesn’t give these problems - except it’s more expensive. Such a pleasure to use though!
  12. I don't believe you. People, especially NS readers, can read properly and hold more than one thought at a time, you insult their intelligence denying that. Not all of us make things diffcult for ourselves reading the forum on a phone when we should be doing the work we're paid for. I doubt any would read it when out for a drink with friends unless they are ignorant and ignore the company they're in, nor, I suspect, do most of us read out loud. You know this thread is liable to have posts longer than average due to the complexities of the subject - so why read it? By your own admissi
  13. He obviously gets a lot of pleasure out of 'em Lizzie. Let him enjoy'em I say.
  14. Hi, Cfarnswo, and welcome to the pleasure dome I'm a little bit older than you, but you must remember when coming out of school, passing the rest garden opposite. I remember when it was still a church. I also remember Independent street, as I used to go to what was known as 'Tanner barbers' for a haircut. Do you remember Brassey Street recreation ground. It had a brilliant monkey climber frame and a fancy rocking horse. Ahh, happy days eh? Look forward to some more memories. Take care.
  15. Still battling to get the results from the 24 hour Cardio Monitor. Nobody seems to know where they went. Everything else checks out OK but I am just so tired all the time. Walking is no longer a pleasure. It's a chore. Could be just ageing I suppose but I'm still sure something changed around 6 weeks ago, overnight. Very wearing.
  16. I don't want to clutter up the more cheerful threads so..: Doc requested a 'full work up' of Bloods. Results are encouraging. My customary slightly raised Bilirubin.. but otherwise all 'Normal'. It's not often I'm described as normal. so I'll take that.. But why am I so tired all the time? Did the 24 hour Cardio recording. Awaiting results.... but I haven't had any noticeable symptoms since the short hospital stay on the 11th Sept. Back is still very sore... but bearable. I walked over 8000 steps on Thursday.. Very slow and ploddy, but I
  17. After some considerable and entirely imaginary consultation with the Home Secretary it is my great pleasure to announce TP is to be exalted to Master of the (Pianola) Rolls. Sadly an uncomfortable position as the minster for art has taken the stool home, says it's his, and won't bring it back. And on a point of order Mr Speaker. Can the right horrible Minister for Art withdrawn his entirety unwarranted and scurrilous accusation that the decision regarding the expenditure of at least one Tesco token over the course of the next financial quarter, is a matter for brevity?
  18. I am not a lover of opera, the sooner the fat lady sings the better as far as I am concerned. It may be due to the fact that it was pushed down our throats at school. It sounds like someone scraping their nails down an old glass blackboard to me with a lot of people shouting and screaming. It would not be good for us all to like and dislike the same thing, each to their own musical pleasure
  19. My pleasure SG, your more than welcome.
  20. 28 to 30 ish here in the Grand Duchy. But only today. I did have the unusual pleasure of lying on my sun lounger in a light rain shower earlier. Cloudy now but still warm. A case of 'back on 'yer eds' tomorrow I think...
  21. I doubt that few people find shopping a pleasure. Not having to go to the shops gives me time to do more interesting or essential things at home. It was not until the enforced lockdown that I even thought about not going to the shops. I would get in the car and drive to Newark to buy something that cost less than the fuel used. Now I can place my order and it arrives the next day. If I want banter I can walk to the local - at least I will do when that gets back to normal. I’m buggered if I’m going to reserve a table to to get a pint. Will ‘normality’ ever return?
  22. It just won’t be worth the hassle to go out. It makes a visit to a pub/restaurant a clinical excercise. I just can’t see the pleasure in doing it.
  23. I have to confess to getting much pleasure out of walking around old graveyards and reading the inscriptions on the stones. I look after the headstone of a family that used to be Station Master here at Watten Station, where I live. The graveyard has been levelled and many old stones placed around the perimeter walls, where the Station stone is now located. One day I was planting bulbs at the stone when I accidentally dug up small long-bones from about an inch below the surface! When they levelled the yard they must have bulldozed some bodies around whilst they were at it. I reburied the remain
  24. Jill, no words can ever express the feelings of the passing of a dear friend. Condolences is the word used but to me it never seems enough. To pass a life time with a loved one be it friend or spouse is never easy when they leave you. You have my deepest sympathy. Your friend must have passed so many good times with you so those memories will never leave and will bring you pleasure to remember them in years to come.
  25. There is no point. There is however pleasure to be derived from owning a fine timepiece and admiring it's aesthetic appeal. Like phones and cars there are cheap and cheerful that will do the same job as those that cost far more - but would never sell if all we wanted was functionality.
