  3. Got an email today... ”Congratulations and welcome to our community! You are now a NHS Volunteer Responder and can start supporting your community and NHS by assisting with vital requests needed during such a crucial time.” Well, someone has to look after the old folks!

  7. I feel I'm living something of a charmed life at the moment. My little household unit is obeying the government' restrictions and life (for us at least) carries on as normal. There are no reported cases of the virus in Grasse or its environs (including le BsL). The weather is amazingly nice and it's even possible to take a dip in the pool. I do hope it will remain like this. My sympathies go out to everyone suffering from this horror, even if not directly. Especially Italy - we're only a few Km from the Italian border which is very worrying.

  13. There is no need to be outside to take exercise. Climbing stairs or just walking round the garden will do it, it will also make you give up the will to live! Allowing people out is, like the clapping, the singing and the rainbows a clever construct to help with morale. They create a sense of involvement, an idea that we are all in this and gives an impression of togetherness, unity and purpose. Going out for exercise does in some small measure make life seem like it is carrying on as near normal given the circumstances.

  15. How true is this ‘lack of testing for NHS staff’? I was talking to a friend in the North East today whose wife is a nurse. He says she’s being tested every few days and suggests it’s all media hype.

  21. I dropped in to the Lidl at the bottom of Carlton Road about 6.30pm yesterday evening. Surprisingly few people; no queues; everything seemed to be available - no massive gaps on shelves; they even had plenty of "reduced-because-it's-today's-date" offers. I think the panic-buying madness is over.

  22. I'm not prepared. I was resigned to shuffling off this mortal coil sometime in the next few years when the old ticker gives out. That seems fair. This virus is a very cruel and pitiless thing which gives no quarter and I really would rather not succumb if that's OK with whatever forces determine such things. And anyway.. I haven't finished the decorating...

  23. A couple of day ago I planted some carrot seeds in deep pots. Done more in hope than expectation as the seeds are well out of date. I've found that carrots grow better for me in deep pots than in my little veg patch. I tried using plastic crates with a 50/50 mix of sand and compost but that didn't work.. which is odd since carrots are supposed to like sandy soil.. I can keep the pts high up on an old table to discourage Carrot Fly. Today (Weds) I planted up some flower seeds. Mrs Col got a pack of 8 types supposedly insect and bee attractants.. so I've thrown Shirley Poppies d

  25. You were lucky, Lizzie. Our trip to Aldi started OK, with everyone queuing properly. Until one of the local morons turned up with his missus and four kids. They ignored the social distancing rules, pushing through to try to get a trolley, and then proceeded to argue with the security man on the door about why he wasn’t allowed to take the whole family in. In the end, only him and two of his kids were allowed in. I had to admire the security bloke for not clocking him one.

  26. It's annoying when you are looking at products on the shelf when a hand brush as past your head to grab something without even saying excuse me. Do I move out of the way for them, no I don't.

  28. I think this might also show the shop in question. On the right-hand side (although it's been artificially overdrawn) you can see a vertical sign on the wall saying 'Ale and Stout'.

  29. Perhaps the media should see QMC A&E on a typical evening. Absolutely packed-out and staff running around trying their damnedest to see to everyone within the 4-hour target set for them. Or the staff on the ENT ward my wife is currently in. The care she and all the other patients are getting from the doctors and nurses is excellent. Especially the young doctor who is working twice the hours she is contracted/paid for.
