  1. I long admired and appreciated Martin's 'model' for his Weatherspoon's pubs. Somewhere to meet for a reasonably priced drink, without deafening music or other distractions. Martin's political views and allegiances are well known to those interested. I don't share them but he's entitled to them. And I did not mention them here. That was not my point. I will withdraw the accusation that he is a moron. However. I still believe that for him or anyone in his position of influence to claim that Coronavirus 'does not spread in pubs' when this shows more concern for his profits

  2. I don't think they've disappeared as they just may not have anything to add at that point. we all find periodically that we do not know much about a particular issue so we don't post. I think we all like to read and learn from those like yourself who have some new stuff none of us knew before.

  3. We had a Blue Heeler in Australia, after the wife had given her a bath, she'd dig a hole uner the fence into a field with cows in it, find a nice wet cow pat and roll in it. We had a dog here who hated skunks, he try and chase them, but skunks stand their ground, turn their backs on their quarry and squirt them....Boy did that dog stink, he never learned. He also hated racoons, now they are real nasty critters, bark and growl like a dog and have the temperament of a mountain lion!! He often had them run up a tree, the coon would just get comfortable, fall to sleep with the dog at the

  5. Cliff Ton:- Am doing my best here, however, am falling short at the moment. I did take screen shots of the toll gate and also the old cottage, but they came from different sources. Will persevere.

  6. My mum was never happy in Netherfield, she thought it dark, too low-lying, miserable and damp and was very happy to move to a house on a hill in Arnold. We also moved into a brand new house with a bathroom which was a bonus after the outside loo and tin bath in Netherfield. I occasionally drive through Netherfield, as quickly as I can, and agree with her thoughts of 60+ years ago.

  7. Pepys got around a bit. I've read a version of his diaries. His reference to the pox indicates how he spent a lot of his time - when his wife wasn't looking.

  8. Can you provide a link - or reference - to those photos. What are they titled on PTP ? Ignore that, I think I've found them. They're actually on PictureNottingham, here........... https://picturenottingham.co.uk/image-library.html?keywords=netherfield&showall=1#PN-NTGM021883&pageindex=2

  9. This is the one thing about Nottingham I am ashamed of: it introduced the first workplace parking fee. Now Scotland has passed legislation modelled on it. But in the real world, occupied by real, working people/couples not by well-heeled, taxi-toting councillors, driving cars--and therefore parking them--is often essential. Cars are and should always remain part of the transport mix. Oh, and they emancipated the working class too...

  10. To be paralysed with fear is never a good place to be. No wonder you emigrated to Arnold.

  11. The last couple of days our new cases have increased. Today 223 and 15 deaths. Even the slightest increase is worrying. Today the govt has complimented the public for wearing masks and keeping social distancing but " there are some that don't realize they are risking the lives of those who have taken care". It's become a way of life wearing masks. I have yet to see people bare faced. Problem is when you are out and about you have to be fairly near to those who you think you recognize before you say hello.

  12. Thanks DavidW, I would have just about dismissed the name Dale as a major long shot, but with Liverpool St, there's a good chance my GGM could have been his Aunty! Not sure what relation that possibly makes him to me.... irrelevant..I will look into his story.

  13. What amazes me...no reference to bed sharing 24 hour taxi drivers , sweat shops paying under the minimum wage, Over a million illegals by the government's own admission. Unlikely to go for test..All going under the radar, not entitled to furlough but everybody needs to put food on the table... The flipside of this, I'm happily surprised how they appear to have conquered the London Corvid issue... London centric with resources?

  15. Labs seem to be really good at finding the stinkiest place in twenty miles.

  16. Normal behaviour for labs. All three of mine have loved wallowing in mud. The worst was Jamie, my first lab. While walking the fields around Harby, he happened upon a silage pit and decided to have a paddle. Twenty minutes with the hose pipe, followed by a bath, did very little to remove the smell.

  17. Thank you Nonna, I can't imagine how hard it must be not being able to be with your Mum you can see her but not give the cuddles that make the visit special. Hopefully we will be able to go to Ladies Day I have changed our booking so fingers crossed. Mum puts her longevity to being pickled in gin-her words not mine, she forgets to mention her bedtime whiskey. I passed on your good wishes, thank you. Gem

  18. It seems that anyone politically slightly to the right of Stalin or Mao Zedong is a moron. Who knows, before long some folk may even start reading The Guardian and actually believe what's written.
