  1. Today is my 8th Nottstalgian Birthday. On 28th December 2012 I was bored and began googling the names of clubs etc that I used to frequent in my teens and early twenties and fell upon Nottstalgia. I've met some lovely members at get-togethers, renewed a friendship that went back to the early 1960s and it's been an interesting and informative 8 years where I've learned a lot about Nottingham that I never knew before ...... but I'm more bored this year than I've ever been. I want some normality and freedom, the chance to meet friends, go for a drink at the local, dine out, go to the theatr

  4. Pleased you’re feeling better day by day Ben, you’ve been through a very difficult period in your life and you’ve bravely dealt with it and hopefully you’ll get some Spanish sunshine in the next few months, get your dancing shoes polished. We were supposed to be off to Northumberland tomorrow to stay with friends in a National Trust cottage by Hadrian’s Wall. Yet another holiday cancelled and we can’t even go to Dorset to our own place. Sorry to whinge, I/we are in a better position than millions who’ve lost their employment or are trying to keep their businesses afloat (like my sons)

  8. I thought it was a Maine Coon, albeit an overweight one. They're known as Coonies among their followers. Nice cats but require a lot of brush and combing.

  9. As soon as you heard John Arlott's Hampshire burr you knew that the cricket season was upon us. His picture painting commentary was so good you could literally close your eyes and watch the game. Ben, I don't think the above quote was ever said, it is probably an urban myth allegedly said by Brian Johnson and no recording exists. But he did actually say on air "There's Neil Harvey standing at leg slip with his legs wide apart, waiting for a tickle" Not forgetting Blowers and Aggers

  11. Just watching the Oz Big Bash League and two of the commentators on are terrible even worse than those doing the test cricket. Brian Lara's comments are interesting, for instance I never knew that he represented Trinidad and Tobago in three sports, Cricket, Football and Table Tennis. One of his football and cricket under 12 team mates was Dwight Yorke who was a decent opening bat and wicket keeper and we know what happened to him. Lara chose cricket and became one of the true cricketing legends.

  12. Ben, Was it for this Ben the cricket tragic would go to all the games of his favourite county club and absolutely nothing would keep him away from a game. One day on the way to a game with one of his mates his mate said "Ben are you all right? You look a bit down in the dumps" Ben replied "I'm fine thanks but my wife is going to divorce me" "What grounds?" asks his mate. "Oh! Headingly, Edgbaston, Lords, The Oval, Trent Bridge, Old Trafford, ........ or this... Ben was always thinking about cricket. Eventually his exasperated wife said "A

  13. Still watching the Boxing Day test between doing odd jobs around the garden. Given all the technology available to us today could someone tell me why we cannot make batting gloves that can manage to stay tight around the wrists for more than three balls. I know it is probably a nervousness thing but I wish they would stop all the fiddling with the gloves and helmets and get on with the game as the over rate is already so slow. In India's second innings if they get one and Tim Paine calls out "bowled Gazza" every second ball when Nathan Lyon is bowling I'll be putting my foot through the telly.

  14. Thanks Margie. As for the walk. It wasn't that far. Took about 40 minutes I think. We are very blessed living here. The focal point is of course the Hill.. which draws in walkers from far and wide, but the surrounding country is all nice. The village is genuinely separated from all surrounding settlements by farmland and Green Belt, so it is possible to walk out of the village in all directions via footpaths and either walk all around the village, or to any of the surrounding settlements, via open country. The downside is that apart from going upwards to the top of the hill.. everywhere i

  15. I've been searching on my Ipad and laptop for those three dots. Can't find 'em anywhere. I have pretty much given up on NS for posting. I can read your posts, even give likes but I cannot post on my Ipad. I'm presently on laptop. The only way I can post. I am at a loss to understand how so called I T guys at a hosting site can make such a monumental mess of a so called upgrade. I'll bark when I can, but I guess for now I'll just be mostly whining. Happy New Year y'all. Dave.

  16. Our TV is no better. Plenty of Christmassy films ( ok it is Christmas but switch over and the same film on a different channel) animations a plenty, ok for kids although I did watch the never ending story. At the moment we have a Bruce Willis film every day. A bit different , we have so many dead and injured at the back of our tv don't know what to do with them.

  18. It might surprise you Ian, but i like cricket, I wish we had a ladys cricket team when I was young, I would have joined also I would have had a brillant coach as my dad had trials to play for England and was accepted. At the time he had just married my mum and he could not have afforded to give up work. While on holiday in Melborn Australia master and myself went to watch England play.
