Today I’m celebrating 10 years of being on Nottstalgia. From the early days of spending a ridiculous amount of time on the ‘Word Games’ with many Nottstalgians who have since fallen by the wayside, for various reasons ….. thinking particularly of TrevorS and Michael Booth. The same words still go round and round but the original rule of no Proper Nouns is now ignored. I’ve rarely started a new ‘topic’ and don’t contribute anything of great significance but still enjoy logging on several times a day to catch up, but what I do look forward to is meeting up with Nottstalgians in a pub sever8 points

Today we had a splendid and enjoyable second Christmas dinner. The first one was in Somerset on Christmas day with our daughter's half of the family and today was with our son's half all piled into our rambling old place. The highlight of the party was when our 3 Gt Grandchildren put on a play for us, which was written by the oldest aged 10. The youngest played a dual role being the mad robot and the dog. Hilarious mayhem. I love those kids.5 points

We had steak last night that was decidedly ‘off’. It was immediately binned. The remaining chips, mushrooms and tomatoes made a pleasant enough meal. It got me thinking. Why do we eat fish or meat every day? I used to think that a vegetarian diet would be bland but I’ve just ordered a veggie cookbook and we’re going to try at least two non meat meals each week. Out daughter and her boyfriend are veggies and they appear to be fit and healthy. This could be the start of a new chapter! There’s one distinguished veggie on this forum, are there others? Belly pork tonight though!2 points

I’ve just read that due to the closure of RAF Scampton the Red Arrows, who will now be hangared at RAF Waddington, will be doing their flying training over RAF Syerston in the new year. It looks like I’ll be getting a ringside seat! My rustic peace is going to be shattered though. At least it won’t be as bad as the 60’s when Jet Provosts we’re based there and we had to put up with night flying training.2 points

Loads of lovely, thoughtful pressies, I’m very lucky, but the bestest present was having my boys and grandchildren here for a couple of days. Although I must say that we enjoyed tidying up today and having the house to ourselves again!2 points

There is nothing better than spending time with grand children at Christmas. Mine are now grown up but I was with two of my grandsons and the partner of one, she has fitted in with the family completely and to hear the banter between all three of them was entertaining.2 points

We treated ourselves to a new P.C. There's not much I need, but I got wine, gin, brandy, warm hat, a couple of books. One daughter bought us RHS Membership, which is nice. I also got my fab 'I Have it on Vinyl' socks! Best present of all was yesterday when we all gathered at oldest daughter's house. Watching the amazement, hero worship and joy in 18 month old Granddaughter Soleil's eyes, as 8 year old Granddaughter Grace gave an impromptu Flute recital, was pure magic..2 points

An old friend of mine, John Pownall, of the scrap merchant dynasty, bought a Jet Provost some years ago which he kept at Tollerton. He was a part time flying instructor at the time and the chief instructor at the flying club, ex. Sq. Ldr. Len Stapleton, used to instruct on Provosts at Syerston in his flying days. He was able to teach John how to fly it. They’re both dead now and I don’t know what happened to the aircraft. Maybe it went to the scrapyard! I believe there is still a Provost kept at Tollerton decorated in some Middle Eastern air force colours.1 point

The Bodega in 1963......when it was a real grimy old place.....but never to be forgotten.........down a dinghy alley...up some old back stairs past some smelly old toilets.....open the door to be hit with great music in a dimly lit Bar......... My heart went boom when i crossed that room....and i saw her standing there........ Followed by 5 magic years.....1 point

That means the three Johns - Bird, Wells, and Fortune - have now all gone. Through the 60s - 80s there was always at least one of them appearing somewhere on TV.1 point

When I worked @ Imperial it was quite noticeable in a small tea bar, that the vegetarian work colleagues had quite high & very smelly flatulence levels, they where also blamed for blocking up the toilets, used to send the cleaner round the bend, she had to break it up with a big stick.1 point

Lizzie, I correspond with Trevor S regularly, and Michael Booth is a FB friend, so both are still above the grass, so to speak!1 point

The result didn’t matter, the biggest result was just playing at Old Trafford in the Premier League, 2022 what a roller coaster ride to be a Forest fan, cried my eyes out @ Wembley & Slab Square, memories & laughs with life long mates, my Son joining us on the pissed up train to Wembley, what a year!1 point
