  3. My name is Lynn Margaret, I was born just after the war and was named after Vera Lynn, because my dad liked her - my mother was called Margaret...........
  4. I once refused to date a guy because his name was Herbert, sounded so old fashioned back in the 60's, he was gorgeous though and regretted it for ages after as he never asked me out again...............Then there was Bernard who was as daft as his name............

My aunty Mrs Beavan moved onto Blackstone Street in 1973, the family were evicted from Clifton for rent arrears, it was a dreadful time for them, they were very short of money due to my uncles health problems - they stayed there until the street was pulled down and moved to Bestwood Estate............ I worked for FMS on Queens Drive in the 1970's, I remember those old streets well.................

He'll probably crawl out of the woodwork now and reveal that he is alive......He had the means and money to alter his appearance and identity and still move around freely without being recognised..... I believe he disappeared to Africa and lived in a tribal village and died years ago...............

I can remember the Cocked Hat, what a dump it was, but it was lively and fun, there were some good groups on from time to time -----My hubby ran a butcher's shop at the bottom of Bells Lane with his dad, Joe Taylor & Son for years, we lived there and sometimes walked up there for a quickie.........very njoyable...

Did someone mention 'Billy Fury' - now your talkin, I just loved that guy back in the early 60's...........made my knees turn to jelly and my heart beat faster.........he always sang about love and the stars, could listen to him forever as he never made a bad record...........I shall certainly be watching his film.........
  17. # 4 Cliff ton - You are so right, as far as I am concerned the Nottingham Councils have always got things wrong........I remember the collar system in the 70's too and those cheap ugly flats............. I have always thought that there was to much back handers on the Council................ I came from Hucknall and all the houses built by the council there as far back as the mid1800s were built to last and most of them have..............

I went there in 1969 to a kinda dinner dance with a fella called Aiden Palmereston who lived in a big Mock Tudor House in Tollerton, he bought me a long black slinky dress from the Birdcage Boutique, had a great night....I stayed over at his house as it was too long a drive to Hucknall and had to go down to breakfast in my evening clothes, I felt very conspicuous as his family were posh, but were very nice to me and they had a maid who bought me breakfast in the breakfast room, no less........., He was a nice guy and I often wonder what happened to him.............He probably would have marrie

I got nowt - went to the Sales today instead, bought new sweater, bath towels, cushions and throws, new frying pan, (with lid), fruit bowl, Crockery, smellies, new shoes, (christmas cards, bows and wrapping paper for next year) - thought about buying age reducing cream, but then I thought what the hell, I am old, what good would it do now - got everything else I wanted, went early, there were no crowds, had cold meat and pickles when we got home. ..

  22. I came from Hucknall so may have known your family, I have lots of friends in Calverton too as a lot of the Hucknall folk moved there in the late 50's for the pit and the houses.........
