Budget may be a factor, and if you're not anticipating much off road use, have a look at the Seat Alteca. Everyone has differing opinions on cars, all boils down to personal circumstances, but I 'll nail my flag to the Volvo, I have had various models over the years and more than satisfied with them all. Commo, looked at theĀ cars suggested by yoursel Brew and Phil, i have booked a test drive in a Volvo momentum and BMW X1. I need a car with lots of space and comfort for mum and aunty so will see it goes.
philmayfield 6,240
Just one point about SUVās. They are somewhat higher off the ground than conventional cars -Ā you must appreciateĀ that because youāve had aĀ Disco. Are Mum and Auntie nimble enough to get it in? You can always have sidesteps fitted of course.
Gem 1,430
Have just had my BMW test drive i must admit it was a vanity drive just for me, but saying that i found it heavy on cornering. They have always managed to get in the Disco but sidesteps are something i would consider, my Volvo drive is tomorrow. We are having tea in Whitby and they say to tell you they are very nimble thank you.
AfferGorritt 868
Lovely day, today. Eyeballs feel like somebodyās been playing marbles with them on Skeggy beach. Getting through tissues at the rate of one per minute. How did I ever manage without hayfever? Ā
catfan 14,794
With your eyes streaming badly you wouldn't have seen my 2 sisters down there then !
Brew 5,462
Things I have learned today: 1. Jet washing the drive and patio is mind-numbingly boring 2. The spot inspector will immediately see the one bit of moss I missed 3. Moss, when hit with a 100psi water jet, travels a surprising distance 4. The spot inspector whilst primping her new 'hair do' is very good at stopping said moss with her forehead (right between the eyes) 5. Yours truly at nearly 73 years of age can go from 'oh sh*t' to flat out down the road in less than 0.001 of a second I may be gone for awhile...
catfan 14,794
Try soapy water on the moss instead !
philmayfield 6,240
.... but only if you want to slip up on it and land on your a***e!Ā Ā
catfan 14,794
Not knowing or doing any gardening type things I wouldn't know the first thing about moss, so I asked Mrs C how she gets rid of it !

loppylugs 8,429
No! Ā A pressure washer is much more fun Mick. Ā . As Brew said it is surprising the things one can do with one. Ā Takes you back to being a kid again. Ā Had mine out to wash the moss of the North facing side of the house this week. Ā Nowt like tottering around with a ladder to get the gable end while trying to dodge the spray that blows back.

He looked at me then my car and said they are fitted on the Discovery no wonder they are nimble, in my defense i used to drive a mini.
philmayfield 6,240
Volvo SUVās are very popular in our neck of the woods. I was impressed when I droveĀ one last autumn. Didnāt buy it though!
NewBasfordlad 3,599
Have to agree Loppy, seems lots of us have the pressure washer out at the moment, talk about being a kid again I write my name with it just to annoy SWMBO and if she dare come out the house well

DJ360 6,751
You all beat me to it with talk of pressure washers.Ā Frankly, I see them as more of a winter thing.Ā I usually give the drive and side path a blast in Autumn because that's when they get slippery and a bit dangerous as they get little Sun. Ā But over the last three days or so there's been an outbreak of Jetwash Mania round here.Ā The noisy b*****s at the back have spent a couple of days at it, then the bloke next to them.. possibly a revenge attack, then seemingly everybody was at it. It's like a herd instinct.. one does it then they all go mad.Ā Of course one good thing is that it drowns out a lot of the music blaring from the patio doors of the usual idiots. Ā Wind chimes....Ā grrrr.Ā Endless totally unmusical clanging and about as relaxing as tinnitus. Ā Grumpy?Ā Moi? Ā Ā
mary1947 2,099
Watched the News yesterday (first time in ages) Main world News quote football manager to leave after 10 years,Ā IS IT ME! AreĀ people not fighting and killing innocent children, some people are starving, NHS is short of bed's, doctor's Nurse's ect. OH!!Ā Lets not forget the English weather.Ā Ā Will not watch News again for a long time it is so depressing when head lines are about FOOTBALL MANAGER'S.
carni 10,094
Don't the birds always sound so happy. I was woken at 4.15am to the sound of a multitude of birds singing. I personally haven't felt like singing at that time of the morning for years. I must say they sound as if they haven't got a care in the world. Are they just singing or nattering to each other, probably deciding what they are going to fill their day with, trying to survive must be priority I think. Ā Ah well, just finished my Ovaltine, the birds are still going for it, I'm wide awake now so no point in trying to nod of again. I'll just wait for daybreak and check the Nottm Falcons, see if I can get a decent picture. Yaaaaawn,Ā they are still singing, but a bit quieter now, perhaps they are all going to have an early morning nod zzzz .Ā Ayup.....sudden silence. mmm.Ā Well perhaps I will shut my sleepy eyes and try again. Here goes. Can't say 'night night' 'cos its not any more.Ā lol. Ā
Oztalgian 3,371
Woke this morning to a sea mist/fog, could barely see the houses across the road, it's still hazy and I can't quite see the horizon but bright sunshine and 27 deg. Not bad for half past Autumn

loppylugs 8,429
Carni... Ā Re. Birds. Ā Maybe they shurrup because they saw a moggy lurking around. Ā Ā We've got a pesky Woodpecker out back. Ā He goes at it twenty to the dozen most mornings. Ā Bailey just stands and listens instead of getting on with his business. Ā Not sure whatĀ the blighter's pecking, thankfully it's not on the house. Ā Sometimes at this time of the year you hear the Whipoorwills out in the woods along with the Mocking birds. Ā They go through a whole list of sounds that sound like all the other birds, thus the name.
