philmayfield 6,139
It looks like they were putting in drainage run offs. I don’t know why because water never puddled on that road. A few years ago the council would come round with a JCB and gouge out gaps along the grass verges for the same reason. This, of course, made the roadside extremely dangerous. There are some blithering idiots who run local authorities.
FLY2 10,108
Yes, I noticed that the gaps have concrete bases to enhance drainage. As you say, I've never noticed any serious flooding along there. At least there's nice newly surfaced lay-bys to benefit the fly tippers !

I like the pace of life here 'quiet meandering' well most days, my aunt has lived here since 1948 when she married a local fisherman. It's very commercialised now more homes owned by outsiders than locals, we live on Cow Bar bank which being very steep puts a lot of people off visiting us but I shall be happy to spend my time here. I know Cow bar Bank well, and have walked up it many times. A lovely place. Staithes is one of the most beautiful villages on that coast. It has become more popular because of the success of Whitby, which can be unbearably busy, so people go to Robin Hoods Bay and to Staithes instead.

Ayupmeducks 1,730
I spent a good portion of my working life underground in one sort of mine or another, mostly collieries, but I never found Boulby anymore dangerous than any of the others, probably because I was trained by the old NCB. Each mine has it's own peculiarities, and you got used to them and paid attention to them. Good training and safe working practices minimize most dangers, Boulby had good management while I was there, and they practiced good safety measures.
Ayupmeducks 1,730
Boulby Bank could be a pig in winter with snow on it, as could be Carlin Howe Bank, both pretty steep.
Oztalgian 3,296
They are advertising Christmas already downunder one of the larger stores is urging you to put children's toys on lay-by now for Christmas. Do they have lay-by in the UK? You put a deposit on an item and pay a little off regularly until paid in full and pick it up before Christmas. A bit like HP but you do not pay interest. Compo 10,328
House guests who buy themselves beer and then stand and watch you buy the wine for dinner. The same guests who drink their beer without offering one and then drink most of the dinner wine. The same guests who walk away from the table without offerring to put their dirty pots to the sink.... and the list goes on....

FLY2 10,108
I know what you mean though Compo. I once took six bottles of Newky Brown to a party. Had two myself, but the other four mysteriously vanished. Consumed by folks who had brought nothing whatsoever. Freeloaders ! One cheeky prat said there was plenty of bitter left. I replied that if I'd have wanted bitter, I'd have brought f*****g bitter !

nonnaB 4,895
People that treat your house and property as their own. Odd job done today but brought his BIL and son with him. BIL stripped off his shirt and promptly lay down on one of the loungers right next to the pool. Hand behind his neck , phone in the other. No" can I " or "do you mind". Later I saw BIL and son perched on top of a newly built wall. I soon asked them to get down. Was really annoyed and more so my daughter who was having this work done. They were refused permission to enter the pool basically because it was maintained yesterday afternoon and we were cleaning up. The son went in yesterday morning because his mother brought him and left him to be with his dad. Our house faces south, the sun shines there from when it rises till it sets and believe me it can get hot and no shade. So feeling sorry for him we let him enjoy himself , but thinking about if he'd had an accident who would have been responsible. He's only small and the pool is deep, good job he could swim. No more casual uninvited visitors.
FLY2 10,108
Disgusting and disgraceful behaviour nonna. Put a stop to that immediately !
FLY2 10,108
During this hot weather, I hate seeing men in vests, with hairy backs and shoulders on view. Likewise, women in those boob tube things, with either no straps, or tiny ones. They invariably have excess flesh hanging over the top, which distorts their tattoos, and protruding flesh around the stomach area. Roll on autumn ! 1

I dislike ignorance and I'm not slow at announcing my displeasure. Next door had some building work done last year and the workmen thought the low wall on my property was just the right height for a makeshift workbench. Not only that but using a Stihl saw to cut bricks is fine and brickdust covering our cars was just 'one of those things 'cos it's what I do'. As I said he didn't do it twice... nonnaB 4,895
These people will not be coming again. There is still work to do which should have been today and tomorrow. This chap that has done odd jobs for us before is the husband of my daughters cleaning lady. He's very thorough and tidy but yesterday my daughter was so mad that he had abused her trust and courtesy. She sent a message last night to say we would see to it that the remaining work will be done by us. His wife sent a short snapped reply saying "ok have a nice evening bye" . This morning Deborah is still so mad that she feels like telling her she no longer needs her. She was talking to her assistant and she was saying whilst they were on holiday she asked her SIL to stay and look after the house. She did, she sent a video of a party drinking their wine and champagne, broke a couple of crystal flutes and all saying cheers. Now that's really too much but to send a video needs some courage. Think she's still stinging from the reaction of the owners of the house. It doesn't take a minute to ask permission. Brew I don't know of many people that would do something like that, people here are usually so polite. My husband says the Calabresi are the worst and funnily enough those yesterday and the party giver were both Calabresi.

trogg 2,016
I had an intermittent fault on my router , in the end, like you, fed up with it and listening to robots finally made contact with a Human and despite protestations I cancelled. I looked at the alternatives, we don't have fibre in area and didn't know what to have, as Virgin when working is good. 3 days before cut off they contacted me , I played hardball , re-joined 100mps at £29 per month with a new router with telephone and all working OK. I found the best way to talk to a Human was phone with a fault go through all the press button nonsense then phone again after 30 minutes you get put through to an engineer, who will put you through to Terminations department after you insist on it. Hope that helps.
