  1. Someone is taking a risk, thought Boris had told everyone to be careful. Maybe the hand gel isn't in a prominent position and the many who are wearing masks are being sensible, that's probably why our numbers are decreasing . I cannot understand why people are so flippant , we cant all be so "lucky "

  2. How's my day? Same as it were yesterday and the 98 days before that. Just finished putting the fourth coat of varnish on my neighbours mini churn (see Beekays paintings). She was delighted when she saw it. She's going to look for a fern or something like that, so it won't hang over the side. It really does a power of good to ones self esteem and makes me realise I can still be of use. Can't wait to bring the milk churn up to Stapleford.

  3. Just spent 2 hrs ironing with music from the 50's. Time passed so quickly. Some of the songs I recognized with the first note but others had to Shazam them because I couldn't remember what the song was or the singer. Well it has been 60 + yrs. Lunch now and swim this afternoon plus sunbathing. Taking opportunity before it storms again.

  4. Lizzie you have to take the rough with the smooth and relaxing in the garden maybe with a " drinkypoo" is just what the Dr ordered. I went out for a swim and did quite a few lengths , more than what I've done recently, got out and sat down a bit intending to sunbathe. Got back in the water ( it was sooo warm) and leaned forward to start to swim again when such a pain shot through my back. It took my breath away but I managed to get the lifebuoy down from the side and sling it over me so I could " hang" it certainly eased it but upon thinking I may have done too much swimming all in one go

  5. Yesterday I was feeling right fed up, I think it’s because we’ve endured 3 months of staying home and only been out of the house for grocery shopping and a walk with the dog. I decided I needed therapy ..... retail therapy. I walked into Nottingham, it’s mainly downhill from home, had a wander around, bought a few things and walked back (uphill) home. Clocked up more than 10,000 steps and It did me a power of good. Today I’d planned on a bit of washing, cleaning and tidying up but I’d completely forgotten that we’d got a Zoom meeting booked with our Financial Advisor. At the same time o

  6. I went into Nottingham this morning - mainly just for a wander around - for the first time in over 3 months. I was there around 9 - 10 am and it was surprisingly quiet, even allowing for everything. No queues anywhere; I could’ve walked into any shop (of those which were open) just like the old days.

  7. I try not to think about it Ian. I do feel for my wife as she gets upset on Mothers day. My biggest regret is that we'll never be grandparents. Said before on here that I've advertised for anyone who wants to adopt a grandad, only one owner, never used except to go to church. Come Christmas time we both get pangs and so we keep a low profile. That's why we come up to Thoresby Hall at the beginning of December. Get our Christmas over and done with.

  10. There was a lot of concern by folks having an amateur radio tower next door with triband Yagi antenna sitting on the top, radiating 100 watts to 1.5Kw on frequencies up to 30Mhz. So the FCC brought in new regulations that required us hams to do an RF survey to make sure we didn't nuke our neighbours. Irony is cell phones are in the Giga Hz ranges. With just 5watts output on a handi talky (HT) on 70 Cm band, (440Mhz), we are advised to hold the radio so the antenna is at 180 degrees to our body, and 70cm is far lower than Cell phone frequencies. The feller who stumbled on m

  13. Don't think it will be long before we can enjoy ourselves in self imposed house arrest for a few more months when the second wave engulfs us. Oh for something less dangerous like a bubonic plague. Does anyone else remember the Asian 'flu pandemic in 1968? I don't recall any panic then and if you caught it, as my wife and I did, you stayed off work and took great quantities of Beechams Powders until you got over it.

  14. Oddly enough, one of my present simple enjoyments is looking through NonnaB 's open gates up the hill past the vineyard to the houses on top of the hill, (on the planter I painted). I imagine walking across the road and across the fields. If I want a change I simply turn it round to my S.I.L.s house. Nuff sed! Ps. Never saw the swimming pool though, Nonna.

  15. There is not a lot of difference between 4G and 5G signal, it's a little higher in frequency, but WTH, all micro wave frequencies are dangerous to living tissue, don't believe me, defeat the interlocks on your microwave oven, switch it on and put your hand inside. OK, cell phones use much lower power, but long time use will lead to tumors, and I wouldn't recommend getting to close to cell phone tower antennas, but then the climb up there would be taxing anyway..LOL Radar frequencies are lower than cell phone frequencies, and the rules with those are keep away unless you want cooking

  16. I thought mine was reasonably quick. Mobile 41 and PC (hard wired) 92, (Ookla speedtest) - but over 600 is impressive... When Virgin came to install it the guy had a 'works phone' and showed me a speed of over 200. I think Virgin and the rest have a special server they connect to when testing just to impress customers. The measurement as far as I can see is 'burst' speed, not sustained. Whilst people may have oodles of capacity downloads can only go as fast as the server you're connected to can send it. A more realistic test would to download, not stream, a film and

  18. Here in South Australia as of Next Monday social distancing is being reduced to 1 person per two square metres effectively allowing 50% capacity at venues. Unfortunately there are still active cases in Victoria and the South Australian government has introduced on line pre approval requirements for all "essential" travellers wanting to come into SA from Victoria. We have opened or borders to all other states. Our last confirmed case was almost a month ago and we have only had two cases since 23 April so things are looking positive. However 800 Australians from overseas will be allowe

  19. It seems one of those stabbed was from Liverpool originally. A very sad day. And the Cumbrian family. It doesn't bear thinking about... On a brighter note.. Last Thursday evening I watched a live concert by Tony Coburn of the Cavern Club Beatles. He has another band called 'Pure Mc Cartney' in which he does .. you've guessed.. all Mc Cartney songs. In this he is assisted by a drumer and a couple of other musicians I don't know.. plus Paul Jones, who is the George Harrison in the Cavern Club Beatles, plus Paul's Spanish wife, who was a barmaid in the Cavern when I first met her,

  21. I’ve just thought about another memorable event whilst we were on Harbour Island. Because we now had the original 6 plus our 2 sons, one daughter-in-law, 2 kids (one being our 6 month old granddaughter) and two nieces We needed more money. There was no bank on the island so Roger and I got a water taxi to Eleuthera and then a taxi to a bank. Roger had to present his passport at the desk, the teller looked at it and said “Oh it’s your birthday!” Within seconds the entire bank staff was there in front of him singing “Happy Birthday” in a very Caribbean fashion, including beating on the count

  22. I got a treat of strawberries when my shopping was dropped off this morning. Didn’t have any ice cream/cream so did a quick nip down to local shops, with mask, to get some cream. There seem to be less people wearing masks now although social distancing was still being done by most. Saw an elderly gentleman with mask but only over his mouth, wasn’t sure whether to tell him he was wearing it wrongly but wasn’t sure of the reaction if I mentioned it so didn’t. Feel a bit guilty now. They can be uncomfortable if you have to wear them for a while, I find them “hot” but better that than the alternat
