Chris Ashley knew how to wind us Forest fans up, but it was a laugh (especially when we were winning)

A blast from the past, digging up an old thread which was started by Ashley, who is sadly no longer with us. Whilst looking for something else, I've found the answer to his original question from 15 years ago. There was indeed a village in the location mentioned, named Holme Lane. It's marked on old maps, and some of the houses are still there. https://goo.gl/maps/aLezhA6Ap7MLiH8i8 Proper old-school Nottstalgia stuff.

Yes, found him on nottingham uni site. Doesn’t look as though he has aged a lot, but it is definitely John. He came to BGS with Malcolm Hawley, and Ashley Sharpe (otherwise known as fag ash) in the autumn of 69 to do a levels at BGS. -
That'll be Chris Ashley. He figures in quite a few threads. I couldn't stand listening to him. https://nottstalgia.com/forums/search/?q=ashley&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_in=titles

Welcome to Nottstalgia Ashley. It's always interesting when someone revives an old thread. None of the people who made the previous posts have been back here for several years so they may not see your comment, but if you have any more stories we'd be glad to hear them.

Hi Guys, thus is Ashley who is referred to in the conversation above. My parents were house parents at Welbeck House and Woolaton House. i guess we must have been there from about 1951 to 1961

At least 26 Low Pavement is still standing. Anyone know whether it is in use now and for what purpose? The building on the corner of Bridlesmith Gate to the photographer's right was, for many years, Laura Ashley.

Just had a ‘mental blip’ whilst practising on a newly acquired IPad, my Grandson set it up and included the NS icon, so clicking on I scrolled down to ‘Pete’s Transport Forum’. For some reason it opened at page 8 and the bottom topic was headed “Mansfield Junction”, dated August 2011. 12 replies included 3 Photos from “Ashley”, one showing a Midland Compound with a nice background. So I decided to go to my computer and print off this photo only to find it was “No longer available”, back to the IPad which now confirms the computer “n l a” post. If I had seen this topic back in 2011 I would cer

Ellis School, Bar Lane
Dr Mike Douglass replied to poohbear's topic in All other Nottingham Schools Discussions
Does anyone remember the 1967 - 1972 year group at Ellis Guilford ? We had a great football and cricket team during this time. We reached the final of the u16s county cup final and played against a team from up Carlton way. They had three Forest apprentices including one who played for Notts County for about ten years. We had some really good footballers as well but never pushed by the school like they would be these days. I remember turning out for the half past nine cross country races organised by RMClarke then playing for the football team then going home and playing for Parkside -

I was right ....... a sensible rent reduction by the landlord by the sounds of it. It was supposed to be closing the doors in 10 days time. Mike Ashley has rescued HMV too today.

Back in 1973/4, I used to listen to Radio Nottingham at work on Saturday mornings. John Holmes and Ashley Franklin hosted a programme called Extravaganza, which was about the only place outside of Old Grey Whistle Test where you could hear prog rock. And after the show, a crowd of us used to meet up with Ashley in the back bar of the Bell, with John occasionally dropping in for a pint (or three).

Looks like a case of mistaken identity. Ashley Durose was 'Ashley' who used to post frequently on Nottstalgia until a few years ago.
-
Lost on me @FLY2 who's Ashley Durose? The bloke in the Forest video is Cliftons Ashley White used to work the doors, now owns a few bars in Prague?
-
RR, I'm afraid Ashley Durose sadly passed away during the summer after a long illness.
-
Whatever happened to @rockinbaz42 @lynmee @sussexred @Ashley Not sure this fellows keen on D***y?

Interesting, fly. I wonder how House of Fraser staff will react to their imminent zero-hours contracts. But give Ashley his due, his proposal contains concern that shopping is changing, and fast. I no longer live in the city but remember Nottingham as a vibrant pleasant place to follow the other half as she delightedly tripped from one store to another. I reason that, as always, market forces will win the day, but this is not a bad thing. The focus will be on personal services ie., nail bars, hairdressers, cafes, barbers, restaurants, jewellers and very high end clothing stores.

Much in the news is the "decline" in what is collectively called "the High Street". Mike Ashley ( love him or loath him, he knows the contemporary business world), has produced an interesting solution. He suggests that any company that produces more than a certain percentage of its TOTAL profits via online sales, should be compelled to have a high street presence. This is from a tycoon who has made his fortune based on the internet. Should there be a solution or will we allow the market jungle to self regulate ?

Mike Ashley reckons it'll become Notthighams Harrods.
