  1. I hope this means your feeling better Ashley and welcome back.
  2. Welcome back Ashley, it's good to see you on here again and I hope that you are recovering well.
  3. Some will remember me, some wont, have not been well following accident, but am still alive! hope to be back here as before Ashley
  4. #21 ayup Ashley I first met Sparrow when he did the same on his Tiger 100 ,can,t remember the year must have been about 1966/7 me and Hammo picked him out of the fence.
  5. Eileen/Ashley..........ditto....................good old Meadows ey.............
  6. As regards the Camelot/Hippo ghost, the research people traced a murder back to 1600 something... a game of cards turned nasty and two men threw a man down a dry well, below the building- below Bridlesmith Gate. Apparently it took him several days to perish!! When my Brother worked in the Hippo in the late 60's he reported a few things..but in 1980 I started at The Camelot and was not put off by rumours...Tuppence the club cat ..his fur often looked like he was plugged into an electrical socket! One Xmas a party of people were due for a meal from a Talbot car dealers in Mansfield.. ea
  7. I like Laura Ashley wallpaper. No Homebase stuff here !
  8. Hello everyone, long time no see I checked out Churchfield Terrace like Ashley suggested, in my search for Ken Smith from Radford in the 1980s. But unfortunately he doesn't reside there. I even phoned there head office, and they haven't heard of him and told me he doesn't live there either. So I'm still searching for him. Thanks to everyone who's been helping me, I'm sure I'll find him sometime.
  9. Your book arrived this morning Ashley, and I sat on the lawn in the shade and read the lot. It's very good. Nothing much I didn't already know, although I always find maps of the area interesting, and I've seen most of the pictures before, but I particularly liked your little anecdotes of your early years, brilliant. Well done.
  10. Never really gave it a thought Ashley, unless the replacement was laid with the track in situ, or is that a recent development. I'll plough through some books when I've got a few minutes.
  11. I remember Chris Ashley winding us Forest fans up. He was brilliant at it, so we tuned in when coming back from the match but he always had an answer even when we won
  12. What is happening to the world? A moment of silence for Istanbul. On a lighter note post #2 from Ashley is comedy gold sometimes missed on here?
  13. There really is no excuse to dress scruffily these days at all. Most High Streets have a Charity Shop or two (Bulwell, eight at the last count) some great bargains to be had. I've bought M&S cotton shirts brand new with labels still attached for the princely sum of £2. Mrs Catfan has a Laura Ashley frock (new) £4 ! A frock by "Monsoon" £5 ! (I once bought her a "Monsoon" frock from the "Monsoon" shop in Nottingham" for £85.) You don't need mega bucks to dress smartly these days.
  14. I know I had originally said Cornwall, and whilst I still love the place it's proved too expensive for us, so our house came off the market and we resigned our selves to staying here a while longer. I was chatting with my neurologist and telling her I was off to Tenerife for a break shortly, she has suggested it would be better for my condition to move somewhere warm. I jokingly mentioned it to SWMBO and she immediately got the ball rolling, no kidding, straight home and on the internet ! We have agreed on the Costa Del Azahar, (The Orange Blossom Coast, and it truly is!) It's between the C
  15. I don't think that making this a 'European' issue is particularly relevant. Mike Ashley and his ilk would be treating people like shit regardless of whether we were in the EU or not. Zero-hour contracts, paying below the minimum wage, searching employees before they go home. All symptomatic of contempt for both customers and staff. They think that wealth excludes them from morality and simple common decency.
  16. You dont often see Mike Ashley and integrity in the same sentence very often. I wonder if it was something to do with him having to go to parliament or to jail? Tough choice fat Mike.
  17. Most unusual reg I saw was on a Rolls Royce at the cattle market, just one number, I think it was 8, had a look at the tax disc and that too said 8 so no joke or whatever, I always fancied a private no. plate but so expensive, it's far cheaper to change your name by deed poll, Ashley YV06CYA
  18. It would seem that the Newcastle 'relegation specialist' has caved in and will appear, after all, before a commons select commitee to defend Sports Direct's 'good name'. I wonder if Phillip Green will do the same and express his profound sorrow at pillaging BHS' s pension arrangements. I think they should both be sent to Bear Grylls' island to fend for themselves along with perhaps Martin Sorrell and maybe Michael O'Leary. It would be like a fat cat Lord of the Flies !
  19. type following in google search Railways Remembered: Basford and Bulwell 1848-1967 (Nottingham Heritage)Paperback – by Ashley R. Durose (Author) Railways Remembered: Basford and Bulwell 1848-1967 (Nottingham Heritage)Paperback – 1 Apr 1999 by Ashley R. Durose (Author)
  20. Still trying to locate a copy of your book on Bulwell & Basford railways Ashley, but no luck. Can you remember the exact title?
  21. #13 Oh yes Carni please do that. I have so many brilliant memories "down the Keller," As mentioned above, Chris Ashley (the mouth) but underneath that exterior a great bloke, Karl, just the perfect "showman", and the rest of the crew. Great times never to be repeated.
  22. A slight assault on the ears by the boys, featuring Chris (The Mouth) Ashley.
  23. Ashley your not doing bas my friend to remember the barbers name, the memories come flooding back. Thanks again Cliff that's the place, the man was there for years, portly chap but very affable did a darn good job on your shoes as well.
  24. Ashley re#156. I wonder if you are talking about my cousins. I had an aunt and uncle who had a chippy on Berridge Rd, they had 2 sons Billy and Jimmy Whitlam.
