  1. Just realised its now 10 years since i joined 'Nottstalgia............Lots happened in that time.....remember in the early days meeting up with 'Mick to me'' and Cliff ton.....and having coffee in a place down near the Canal in town.......lots of members now gone miss most of them............. Plus many new members joined after me.......its been an interesting 10 years......like to think ive made many friends on here some lovely people.......met quite of few of them....and its been a pleasure......never fell out with any....come close a few times...but its not my nature...
  2. Oztalgian, yes I'd forgotten about Mcrae's original. I heard it often on children's favourites. And some evocative videos here. IMO there are few activities that can match inland sailing a single crewed boat for pleasure. My brother got his sailing certificate and passed his knowledge on to me during broads holidays.
  3. My pleasure Barrie Rog
  4. Had a lovely day out in York today, checked the weather forecast before setting off and it looks like being a nice day but rain coming in about 14.30 so off we went, bit of traffic on the A1 for some bridge repairs north of Barnsley but other than that it was a nice drive, used the park and ride at Askham Bar, £2.40 for the two of us which was nice, first off we went for a cuppa at the Castle tea rooms plus scrambled eggs on toast just under a tenner for both of us, then a walk around all the tourist routes including a walk around the wall and a riverside walk looking at the pleasure boats, ni
  5. Were you being held at her Majesties pleasure Jill? At least Nuthall Cowsheds where i went we had hot water radiators and the place was temporary for years even took my 11+ there.
  6. I dont have any of my school reports, but thinking of subjects taught at school I can say with pleasure at 76 years old I have never had to use Algebra. Was that one of the subjects taught but of no general use , what else do you think that was not worth the effort at School.
  7. I have just had a week in Tenerife as I was fed up with the winter, it was great in the sun, but after every pleasure there is a cost. The wife and myself both wore face masks at the airport and on the plane travelling back, after an hour she collapsed and needed oxygen for the rest of the journey. She was in bed and was on her antibiotics for several days. Me feeling left out and having to do all the holiday washing and ironing felt rough and started coughing my son called in and made me take a COVID test, for the first time I was positive. After a week mostly spent in bed I am clear but am s
  8. They might as well raze the whole of central Nottingham to the ground and turn it all into student flats. There’s not much left of it now anyway. Why trek into town when it can be delivered to your door. Do people still take pleasure in shopping? Why are there so many dimbos around when everyone goes to university these days?
  9. I don't skimp on the price of food. It's the only pleasure I have left in life.
  10. Thanks for all your best wishes. Still festering under my heated throw with my trusty (sleeping and snoring) guard dog by my side whilst finishing off the other half of my chocolate bar from yesterday. Normally there wouldn’t have been any left but it has crunched up bits of nut in it and it does make me cough. Still the suffering is worth the pleasure. I have been trying to remember the last time I had a cold/virus and have realised it was before covoid. I presume this could be that since then up until later last year I have always worn a mask when going out near people? It is making me
  11. And that, Phil, is the most important point of all. I've lost count of the number of times when some clown has expressed shock, scorn, or disbelief at the cash I've spent on some bit of kit and then been silenced by me pointing out that they spend much more chasing some football team around the country and up and down the league tables. What's more... at the end of the season they have only memories.. not all good.. whilst I still have the bit of kit and the pleasure it gives me, for the forseeable. It's certainly partly subjective, but when it comes to loudspeakers, it
  12. Hi Fi buffs Barrie. They like a pure sound to emanate from their speakers but it’s all a bit subjective. Is the sound produced at the original recording the same sound that comes out of the speakers? Most of us spend excessive monies on our hobbies from drinking to women. As long as we take pleasure from it that’s all that matters!
  13. Jill has just informed me that Trevor Williams has recently passed away. Anyone who was at Berridge in the mid to late 1960’s will remember this lovely man I’m sure. Berridge was his first teaching post straight from teacher training school. I have fond and happy memories of my final Berridge year with him. He went on to have a marvellous teaching career finishing as a well respected head teacher. Very active in local chess activities and a decent marathon runner. I had the pleasure of chatting to him on the phone last year. Unfortunately he was showing the effects of dementia but still had an
  14. Apologies for being over 15 years late to the party, but glad to be here finally and in a position to contribute. The large country house you refer to would either have been Flintham Hall or possibly where I lived back in ‘89 and was lucky enough to return to permanently in 2021. Barnby Manor near Newark. I have very happy memories of Neil playing with the dogs on the lawn during filming breaks. I was around only occasionally during this period of my life I was studying at the Royal Ag College, Cirencester and in my early 20’s. There were many motor homes on site for m
  15. I have the dubious pleasure of owning two BP monitors, one manual and one electronic. Use on myself and for 'er indoors when I do her weekly record, doing it twice a day. Did suggest to her that if the cuff hurt her arm I could always try it on her neck and inflate it there. I don't think she was too amused with that one !
  16. Thanks for the pictures. MargieH, yes those earliest recalled ventures away from home, excluding trips to the shops (again), seemed almost magical. I've got a notion in my mind that there was another pleasure steamboat working the Trent about the same time, name of Gorlestone. Another Yarmouth registered boat I guess but I'm not sure. I've happily navigated the river Yare many times in the last 50 years and I'll never forget it or the steamboat which borrowed its name.
  17. Are you thinking of the boats to Colwick Pleasure Park, which used to go from the Colwick side of Trent Bridge ? https://nottstalgia.com/forums/topic/12175-pleasure-park-at-colwick-and-trent-lane/?tab=comments#comment-59190
  18. A great picture of good machines that lasted well and continue to give pleasure!
  19. Sorry to hear of your Problems Lizzie hope the situation is resolved soon . I have only had the pleasure to meet your hubby once and he was a great guy and very interesting to talk to. I will be thinking of you both in this troubling time. Ps I know what you mean about the A and E department so over crowded, busy and noisy you feel better when you leave the place. Love and chips to you both.
  20. I’ve been to Italy many times but for business not pleasure. However the Italians always managed to mix business with pleasure so I always enjoyed going there. There was one chap who used to take us out in the evening whose father was the mayor of Florence and he knew absolutely everybody and all of his cousins seemed to own a restaurant!
  21. Its always a pleasure watching Andre the Voices of Spring, Blue Danube and all the other classics.
  22. Morning Ben oh! if only we could turn back the years! Each Sunday in summer (days gone by) we would go down to Proctors pleasure park in Leics. I was lucky has dad and mum had a car, also my aunt and uncle had a car, so off we all went for a picnic, but most important we had dads cricket bat in the boot. The bat had come back from Aus when he had served over there in WW2. Well when we arrived stumps set up getting ready to play if any body was watching then dad invited them to play, soon we had two good sides. At the time their was not a mention of any ladies playing cricket (Good God man
  23. I’ve been reading the rules and regs of the Nottingham Croquet Club and the rules of the game. I think I’m going to forget the idea of a croquet lawn. I’ve just got too much work on my plate at the moment with no time for pleasure. That’s the story of my life!
  24. A pleasure to meet you and your wife Rog. My wife couldn’t comprehend who the ‘lovely person’ was when I showed her your post!
  25. Busy old day again but no bike ride today, mainly work in the shed doing a bit of soldering and fabrication work on the old lamp plus some cleaning work on the time piece, anyway this afternoon Phil came to my place with the clock repairers handbook for me, what a lovely person and so knowledgeable, we had a great natter about all manner of things which I found very interesting and informative, many thanks for the book Phil it was a pleasure meeting you Rog
