  1. Not so much ‘How’s Your Day’ but how’s our week or so gone! Last week we spent two nights in a beautiful country house hotel in Dorking attending the wedding of our niece who lives in Washington. A second marriage for both her and the Groom, 6 kids between them! Family travelled from all over the UK, USA and beyond and it was a fantastic family gathering. Then we drove to Poole with brother-in-law and wife from Victoria, BC, along with their daughters, one from Toronto and one from Costa Rica. Then off to Devon for 2 nights to catch up with an old school friend of my husband, whilst there w

  2. My clipper is a no-name Chinese affair and the charge, via a usb outlet, lasts about thirty mins, presumably that is. Weirdly its markings rate it as 100~220v but the lead supplied is for a usb. My problem is being a lazy sod letting my hair grow too long to the point where a combine harvester might be more use. A clipper I've forgotten to charge stands no chance.

  3. County - On the winning list again at last. Their first win at Meadow Lane under Maynard. That man Langstaff popped in a penalty during time on in the first half after Luca Ashby Hammond saved a spot kick. County scored twice in the second half with goals from Jones and O'Brien. Harrogate had its' chances but could not convert them to goals. Away at Walsall next Saturday. 15th on the ladder, there is not much interest left for County fans as a mid-table position looks likely after a promising start. Stags - Crawley Town crush wobbly Stags 1-4 at Field Mill knocking them out of an automati

  6. Saw Yes perform a few times in the 1970s, including three times at De Montfort Hall, Leicester, as well as at Reading Festival in 1975. Had all their albums, too. But having seen them on TV a while back, it’s not the same lineup as it used to be. Not one of the original members are still in the band. A bit like Trigger’s broom!

  8. Not really familiar with Yes. Had to Google them to see what they sang. The only song I recognised is Owner of a Lonely Heart. I do know Jon Anderson did the vocals on a Vangelis album and Rick Wakeman did some weird albums, 2 of which we have still!

  9. Sorry Lizzie, I know next to nowt about Yes as I'm not into progressive rock either. I can say they had a hit album called 'Fragile' and another called 'Tales From Topographic Oceans', but there were many others. I'm afaid their music does nothing for me. Check them out on Wikipedia. I suppose if necessary you could casually drop in "I really like Fragile and Topographic Oceans, but probably 'Oceans' better.. but then if they ask you which track you like best you're in trouble Possibly better to employ the old "I don't know much about them but I've always enjoye

  11. I love my cricket. Test matches are the pinnacle of the sport. Kerry Packer started the slow decline of the game with his World Series Cricket in 1977 with the game being given the name "Pajama Cricket" by the traditionalists, which initially split cricket in half in Australia. Today we have the 20/20 big bash which is slowly reducing in popularity and the number of games this season were reduced. I cannot comment on the 100 as I have never seen it. The rise of the IPL has put players wages into the stratosphere in countries where the game is a way of life. I see the Saudi's are trying to get

  12. I think or rather hope the pendulum has swung at Meadow Lane as the mighty Pies recorded their first home win under Stuart Maynard. Harrogate, a notorious anti football, spoiling team were well beaten in the end by Notts who showed the commitment and desire so badly lacking earlier this year. One swallow doesn't make a summer but Notts played well and their on loan keeper Luca Ashby-Hammond saved a vital penalty. I haven't seen that happen at Meadow Lane since another on loan keeper Anthony Patterson saved a Paul Mullin spot kick back in 2021. The highlight of the game has to be Jod

  14. There is also Bluecoat Harvey Haddon campus and Bentinck Road junior campus as well as the main campus on Aspley Lane, the latter originally built when Bluecoat Street was vacated. Edit. Not very relevant to the original post, but interesting.

  15. Just had a look on Google. As usual, I'm well out of my depth. Know bugger me !! The school I was referring to is Trinity Catholic school, on left side, going down Beechdale road, just past Kingsbury drive. Think I was getting mistaken because the girls uniform was/is blue blazers. The ages as far as I knew were up to 18/19, so you can imagine, as an impressionable 19 year old myself I found some of the older girls quite admirable. So, I'm blaming Compo for confusing this doddering old fart. Cheers everbody and thanks Jill and Stewpot.

  16. Just been reading Bluecoat history, think it was written a while ago,, The Blue Coat School This was founded in 1706, but the present building, which stands at the foot of the High Pavement, was erected in 1723, on ground given by Mr Wm. Thorpe, a benevolent attorney. It contains a large school room, and a suite of apartments for the residence of the master, who has 100 guineas a year, and he is allowed six tons of coals annually for the use of the school. Two statues, in niches at the front of the building, represent a boy and a girl in their school costume. The charit

  17. Archway Trust, who own / run or whatever, Bluecoat have been given a short lease on the old People's College building on Maid Marian Way for temporary use for their 6th form. The space that frees up at Bluecoat is being used for start up pupils for the new Free Secondary school being built on the old Clarendon site, should be finished this year. When the new Clarendon (not called that) building is open, start up pupils will move and Bluecoat get their 6th form space back. Whether Archway will run the Free School I know not. Edit,, yes they will be, to be calle

  18. The problem became worse when I encountered a heavy outcrop at the back and there was so little charge the blades simply jammed leaving me with a hair clipper firmly attached to my head. Strangely the ensuing imprecations on the makers parentage plus considering its suitability for a free flying lesson did not help at all.

  19. Brew, I did something similar about 20 years ago when I was still working. I always cut my own hair and this particular time I was using the electric clippers on the lower back part of my head. I had attached a number 6 ,guard’ on the clippers, at least I THOUGHT I’d attached it securely but it came off without warning and dropped on the floor. I obviously stopped straightaway but there was now a small shaved area on the back of my head. I used an eyebrow pencil to colour on to my scalp - I was dark haired then - and luckily I had enough hair on the top and sides to back comb over the bar

  20. This is a public announcement. It is not a good idea to make appointments with an accountant and then decide to cut your hair if the clippers are only half charged and runs out before you can finish. You're welcome.
