  1. Just getting back in the normality swing after a very enjoyable week in Devon with Hubbs and Daughter and Granddaughter. Those two girls are in my life so much on a daily basis, it is a special feeling to be loved and to love back. When my Granddaughter was born 18yrs ago in December, my Daughter was really not well for quite a while. I spent a lot of time with her and that wonderful little baby. I believe I bonded as if she was my own. My daughter appreciated me very much and made sure I have been given the honour of being a big part of their lives. Today my feelings have b

  3. Loppy is still lurking around the dog house. Not doing much barking these days. Been spending quite a bit of time barking with various organist's about the relative merits of different capture actions, ranks and stops. Not to mention our good friend Herr Bach. I find myself very tired in these days and I don't mean just physically. The world gets a bit loonier every day IMHO anyway. I did not post my thoughts in among some of the previous discussion. They would not be welcome and would probably be considered hate speach. To the best of my remembrance I have never hated anyon

  4. Of course if everyone was really becoming a homosexual I too would be worried for our future. Thing is everyone isn't. It's just that those who are genuinely homosexual are no longer hidden, as they were for centuries previously. There is also absolutely no, none, zero, zilch evidence that homosexuals 'want everyone to be gay'.. Govt. statistics say that 1.7% of the population identify as LGTB. There is no evidence that these orientations are increasing, they are just more visible. From my perspective, there are far more dangerous, socially damaging and urgent probl

  5. I have to agree with you on that, I would probably go further, maybe because I am a bit of a prude, I believe all people should keep their sexual activities behind closed doors. I personally think this topic has gone far enough and posters should post more nottstalgia.

  6. Don't think I was being disingenuous about the PC Brigade Brew. It wasn't me who introduced the term and I'm not the one complaining that the 'Brigade' (Whoever they are...) are 'stifling' free speech. I simply asked who this 'brigade' were. Nobody can tell me. You are of course correct when you say that there is no such brigade and I agree that we all to some extent allow our behaviour and utterences to be 'modified' by more enlightened social conventions, but I think there's a qualitative difference between a developing set of social norms, and plain old PC bullying. 13. The term Gay is just the latest one used to describe homosexuals. There have been many others in the past. I've actually noticed that the term 'Queer' is making a bit of a comeback among the LGTB community. So should we strike out all references to The Queen in case that confuses youngsters? Or maybe we should get somebody to remove the word queer from all printed sources? Maybe we should stop reminiscing so fondly about the Faggots we so enjoyed outside the chippy in Arkwright St? What will people think? Fairy stories should definitely b

  14. Which ties in rather neatly Col with the earlier discussion. Hofstadter in his discourse examines how fringe groups can have a disproportionate influence and how individual behaviour can impact much larger groups. Such things would be difficult to think about objectively whilst trying to remember 'mirror. signal. manoeuvre' or negotiating the intricacies of a two lane roundabout.

  21. We had two of our grandchildren (9 and 7) staying with us in the caravan for two days last week. It was lovely to have them with us but it was tiring.... they are great kids but their energy levels are way above mine! I'm looking after them tomorrow all day, also Friday, but while they're at home they do amuse themselves for the odd half hour... so it's easier than being in the caravan. They both like playing board games and always choose Monopoly to play first because I don't like it that much - little monkeys! Really loved listening to that song - thankyou Catfan and Carni

  24. Although my favourite mode of transport is train Phil. I have absolutely no desire or interest in the things, so long as they get me to my destination & back is all that matters to me. I don't know a steam train from a diesel nor have any desire to. Aircraft travel is not for me, don't like heights at all, only once flown from London to New York & back of course. Coach travel is the cheapest, another bonus is that I don't have to drive the thing ! Headphones, music on my phone, wake me up when we get to Bulwell Mrs C, just suits me fine. Another thing is the great compan

I owned a Viva as well, I also owned an Allegro despite all the bad publicity about them it took my family and trailer many thousands of miles camping with not one bit of bother and it was only the 1100cc one. If not on cars I will choose shipphams paste as a discussion on Princes may cause upsets.LOL

  32. I did that too Margie. The cardboard tops were from wide necked bottles and had a centre you could push out to make a ring. Made good skimmers too. We also put four pins a cotton reel and made the strings. I think we called it French knitting.

  35. I never think Homo's etc as a threat, more of an embarrassment really ! Men talking with strange falsetto voices & trying to act like a woman in public i find offensive. Only last week I saw 2 blokes walking along holding hands , big strapping masculine blokes, embarrassing to many onlookers. Too allow 5 year old children to choose their own gender I find particularly distasteful , how on earth can a five year old know anything about gender re-assignment ? I firmly believe many parents allow this because they really wanted a child of the other sex, you get what you are gi

  39. Col ‘defends’ homosexuals as they are born that way. I accept that’s probably true and as long as they do whatever they do behind closed doors I’m fine with that. What about kleptomaniacs? They can’t help what they do either. That’s another aberration from what we consider to be the norm. They get fined or locked up if they’re caught at it though. How long before that’s legalised and we see parades of shoplifters proudly marching through the City with their gaily coloured banners - probably led by the Mayor and the Sheriff.

Oh, come you home on Sunday When Ludlow streets are still And Ludlow bells are calling To farm and lane and mill Or come you home of Monday When Ludlow market hums And Ludlow chimes are playing "The conquering hero comes" An extract from "The Recruit", one of the poems from "A Shropshire Lad" by A E Housman, one of my best-loved anthologies. If you don't know it, do acquaint yourself, you won't be disappointed.

  49. The difference of course being that homosexuality is legal. I doubt very much whether overt sexual acts in public by homosexuals or heterosexuals would be tolerated and there are many laws which could be invoked. (Public order, Breach of the Peace. etc...) Theft isn't. legal, in public or in private.

  50. I have two good friends in our village who are lesbians - I don't particularly like using that term as they are just nice people who happen to love each other and are fully committed to being a family. They have 2 children, one each, but both with the same father (NOT naturally conceived, I might add....). He's a good friend of theirs and happily agreed to give them the opportunity to have children to love. The father comes to see the children regularly but doesn't live with them. The family is happy and stable and the children seem well adjusted. Having two mums doesn't seem to be a prob
