  1. That might be the answer BK but to be honest I can’t really be bothered! I have no photos I want to share anymore - nothing anyone else would be interested in anyway. I read all the posts on NS (except the word games) but rarely post anything as I feel I’ve exhausted all my memories - at least all those that I would want to share!!! And I don’t want to keep endlessly repeating things…… I am very content with my life and will continue to enjoy reading all the threads (even though I don’t necessarily agree with - or relate to -everything I read….. ). But that’s just the same

  3. Well I'm back home and we've had a crackin' night over at our little community centre, with a turnout of 30 people, which at £2 entry netted 60 quid, half to the winners and half to our social fund. Better still though, the winners gave back their winnings to the social fund, so the residents benefit all round. I did a mixture of verbal questions, visual idententification and musical intros. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and because they bring their own refreshments and nibbles, nobody wentv without. Got back home at 22.45, knackered and just wanting a cup of tea. It's a lovely fee

  5. Got no interest in the politics thread whatsoever but some find it interesting so get on with it, I try to post what I've been on with during the day or the garden and hobbies threads but not everyone likes those threads, the historical side of Notts should have more posts I think because they are of members memories, I don't know what the answer is to creating more posts, we need to attract new members how we do that I don't have a clue, maybe a "welcome to new members" section and encourage them to post their thoughts and memories Rog

  6. Had a big sleep in this morning. didn't get up until 9.15!! Usually 6.15. Yesterday was the last day of the World Erg Challenge for Indoor Concept2 bikes and rowers. There are 6k entries and the idea is to row or ride as far as you can between Mar15th and April 15th = 32 days inclusive. I was trying to get into the top 50 so I made a last effort by rowing just over 15km and cycling 49km yesterday. Just didn't quite make it, finishing 56th. I am fortunate enough to be a team member of the ANCIENTS - a crew I joined 19 years ago when I retired at 66 (you have to be over 65) many were and still

Went down to the coffee morning in the next village today in my car, got the bike out read to ride there but then the heavens opened up and down came a load of the white stuff, anyway got to the village hall ok and the gent who was supposed to be serving this week had to go home because his wife was taken ill so I stepped into the breach and went behind the counter to serve tea and coffee, I don't mind because any of the people there would do the same for me, anyway, great stories from ex Group Captain of the RAF telling us about his time flying in Phantoms during the seventies, there was a lo

  8. I remember you joining Nottstalgia @benjamin1945 and being a tad stressed about your first serious health issue. You got through that one (and the next), you’ve had a tough few years but you’re still here to bring a smile to our faces. I’ve also found that there are some lovely supportive folk on here and have always been very appreciative of that.

On May 2nd its the day you vote now we have had leaflets come though our door which say Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire councils are to join forces, they say that the region will be given powers it has not had before with control over a level of funding that will enable long term improvement in the performance of the regional economy of the regional of the prosperity of its people. Question ? Did anybody ask or vote for them to join together.? not

  14. Tomorrow Australian time we celebrate our Remembrance Day 25th April is ANZAC Day The day starts with dawn services symbolising the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps that took part in the Gallipoli campaign in 1915. Whilst I have no relatives in Australia who took part in conflicts I do take time to remember my Dad who survived Dunkirk, was posted with the 8th Army to North Africa then invaded Sicily and fought up through Italy. My mum was in the WAAF initially on balloon crews and then on the bomber airfields of Notts/Lincs. My Maternal grandfather fought with the Royal Ulster Rifles

  15. People of a certain age might remember "Let's Go to San Francisco' by the Flowerpot Men in 1967, who were just a group of session musicians. They recorded a few other songs but none were successful. One was 'In a Moment of Madness'...which was later released by White Plains...although it was the same people. I'd forgotten how good it was.

Another very windy day but make the most of it eh?, dustbin day today out here, general waste and garden waste, first job this morning was to (once again) clear all the cat poo off the garden, I've got some netting on the way to see if that helps with the problem (fingers crossed) at the moment my back garden is covered in leaves from the tall tree in the corner of the field, do I clear them up or do I leave them to break down and act as some sort of feed for the grass?, Might try out the powered scroll saw today cutting out some components for the wooden "golly frogs" frogs and teddy bear mo

  19. Not seen this before, a remastered live Beatles concert in Washington, the first one after appearing on Ed Sullivan. The beginning is almost comically amateurish as the screaming audience are on all 4 sides of the stage and Ringo sits with his back to the band ! First Ringo and then Paul try and rotate the drum stage with no luck. This rotation of the drum set and mikes goes on throughout and with the way Ringo was bashing those drums (but still holding the rhythm), it's a wonder the kit held together. George opens with Roll Over Beethoven. It's a

  21. Good to get up. and see sunshine. Out at 7am for first walk with Jj, just round the block for his ablutions. Breakfast and then about 9.30 the park for ball throwing. Went to the park I used to go on as a kid, just grass now all the equipment, swings, slide, seesaw, witchs hat thingy, bucking horse all gone now. Health and safety I presume. The groundskeepers hut and loos have gone as well. There are 2 goalposts set up for a football pitch which look a bit forlorn. Spent many happy hours there along with many scraped knees (very painful when done on asphalt especially when you got black bits

  31. Having worked in the public service for a while. I am a firm believer that you could sack at least 30% of the work force and make no difference to the services offered. I am not talking about the front-line workers in our health services, emergency services, armed forces, transport etc. I am talking about the rapid proliferation of "administrators/managers" whose sole aim appears to come up with more ways of having the front-line staff do more reporting and data collecting thus spending less and less time on doing what actually matters. Political staff should be reduced in all levels of govern

The police say the assailant, 40 years old Joe Cauchi was known to police in Queensland and was believed to have had mental issues. They were ideal places for finding theatrical costumes. When I was a child, we lived next door to an elderly couple whose only daughter, Muriel, had been one of my mother's best friends from early childhood. After attending Berridge and the dreaded Manning Grammar, Muriel went to Millers Business College and then found employment as a secretary to one of the directors of Player's. I was at Uni in Manchester (Salford to be precise) 1972/3 and used to listen to The Johnnie Walker show on Radio One on Wednesday afternoons when we had free time. He used Duane's “Because They're Young” as his theme music and it brings back happy memories when I hear it. I also love this one from 1975. RIP Duane Eddy a guitar legend.

Tractor Vapourising Oil is basically paraffin with a few added ingredients. I used to bring it out and put it in the meadow when we had the village open gardens but lockdown put a stop to that and nobody has had the gumption to revive it. I think I’ll tidy it up and sell it. I’ve got another in the back orchard, a 1964 Ford Dexter 2000, which could do with a lick of paint. I’ll see if I’ve got a picture of that some

I'm fairly sure that was a lowdecker with the long bench seats and gangway down the starboard side.( the one in Oz's link).

Both greenhouses are now cleared out, cleaned and ready to go. I lit my three year old bonfire on Saturday which had become massive. About 20’ by 10’. It was a spectacular blaze! My veg garden had grown over since my hip problem and it’s getting a bit too late to rotovate it now. I might hire a deturfer, shift the grass and rotovate it ready for next year. The programme and organisation was in the hands of middle-aged men in suits who had no idea or understanding of what was happening.
