  2. I to could be mistaken Fly, but am as certain as I can be that Beck played the Beach on one occasion. The Beach as I recall it had a lower and narrower stage. Beck broke two or three strings and keep passing his guitar back to his roadie for a string change before ( at least apparently) 'losing it' and 'whanging' a perfectly good Fender off the right hand wall till the neck and body parted company. That said I did see Beck at the Boat also. I can see Rod in pink and white pants (possibly pyjama pants) with a matching pink vest with white piping. He was a bit of a lad... I dunno why I th
  3. OK, firstly it seems that the Audio Technica has a built in 'phono equalisation' or 'phono' stage which will output either an equalised signal at line level to a standard line level input, or via a toggle switch, will output the raw signal from the cartridge to an external 'phono' stage. It will also output a 'digitised' version of the music at a reasonable bitrate, via USB. This could be connected directly to a PC, or into a suitable USB equipped Digital to Analogue Converter (DAC) If anyone wants an explanation of RIAA, or 'phono' equalisation and why it is needed to replay vinyl or other
  4. Whatever Eric Clapton has turned in to he has inspired millions of kids world wide in to becoming muso's of one sort or another. His tastes were very eclectic and that shows in his later work (which I'm not particularly a fan of) but you can't say he isn't a great. This is a fairly general top ten and, in my opinion, there are some gaping mistakes in it. Jimi Hendrix Duane Allman (maybe but not No.2) B.B. King Eric Clapton Robert Johnson (maybe but only with the Devil's help) Chuck Berry Stevie Ray Vaughan (don't agree - my taste) Ry Cooder Jimmy Page Keith Richards (don't agree)

Another Rocker has left us,this man was a roadie for Jimi Hendrix. A man who spoke his mind throughout, even his Blackpool band The Rockin' Vicars caused a stir.Had me head in Lemmys bass bin one time..and walked to Silverdale.. my ears were still ringing!! Playing bass now,at the great gig in the sky.

  13. Firstly, really enjoying 'Jools' tonight. Ricki Lee Jones is still pretty cool! Among the first songs I recall hearing was 'Little Things Mean a Lot', by Kitty Kallen. I was about 4. Still love it. Her earlier 'swing' output with the Harry James Orch. was ace too. Throughout the 50s I was fed a diet of such 'pop' as the BBC deigned to play on the 'Light Programme'. I had little access to Radio Luxemburg or the wider music scene. Buddy Holly died on my 10th birthday.. which sort of locked us together. These days I think Holly is underappreciated. His guitar playing and song writing were b

  23. I went to the Isle of Wight pop festival with 3 mates, had a ball over the 3 days we were there, mind it was a bit chaotic to say the least, the facilities (read toilets) just could not handle the crowds and well I'll leave that to the imagination. The local pubs did a roaring trade with massive queues building before opening times, as they opened the crowd would rush in, not to the bar but the toilets ! In the end the toilets all became blocked and unusable. We got sick of the mess and crowds and headed back to the mainland. One memory was of sitting on "suicide hill" watching Jimmy Hendr
  24. I mentioned this before in another thread. My mum used to work in the Watmoughs that was on Goldsmith Street by the side of the Theatre Royal (just next to Jack Brentnall's guitar shop). She remembers Jimi Hendrix coming in for a packet of fags after his sound check - Dec '67 I think. (He smoked Benson and Hedges apparently). They were tiny shops. Just the serving bit and a storeroom cellar below. There were some nice tuffies around at that time. They don't seem so nice these days - and I'm sure that's not just my memory playing tricks !
