Just got back from a lovely walk (about 4/5 miles) with my boys. Not many people/other dogs about so they were off lead quite a bit. Lots of interesting sniffs to investigate (the boys not us), rustles in the undergrowth in the woods (will have to give them a once over with the brush when they are rested) and squirrels to sort out. Finished with a romp and play in the meadow (don’t know why but my iPad changed the last two words to Rotherham, is there much romping and playing there?) Slow plod back home, both the boys and us, and now two tired but very contented dogs are stretched5 points

I remember the 68 bus reversing off Farnborough road into Pastures avenue and the brakes making a god awful noise as they were applied with the bus reversing, the bus would then drive out of Pastures avenue and stop at the bus stop just down Farnborough road on the opposite side,no brake noise there, was the noise caused by dust in the brake drums or no leading edge on the brake shoes when the vehicle was in reverse? the noise happened on nearly all buses whether they be NCT,South Notts or West Bridgford UDC Rog3 points

We always used to get fish and chips there when County were playing at home. As Dad was a driver at Trent Bridge we could leave his car there and walk to Meadow Lane after having a good feed.2 points

Lovely plant clematis ? A couple of weeks ago I found some young plants at Lidl. I bought a Meyer lemon , a fig tree and another common lemon. They were cheap and I thought what the heck I'll try to grow them, they were very tiny but I thought if they wither I won't have lost anything. I have a lemon tree and a kumquat so it was a bonus if they survived. They have and started to grow very quickly. They won't produce lemons for a few years but who cares they were cheaper than flowers which we have to replace every year.2 points

Normally it was the angle the shoes presented to the drum after a degree of wear had taken place and the different leading edge when going backwards, new drums almost never did it. There is also the fact that when reversing the braking effort is usually very light. We had an Atkinson eight wheeled tipper that did it after a brake re-line (rear wheels). It turned out the brake in question had a different brand of lining and I was told it was 'harder' than the Ferodo brand we usually used. Changed it and the noise stopped.2 points

Sorry BK, I don't know, we were holidaying in a caravan park on the coast just north of Hartlepool, and we took the kids to Beamish for a day out.1 point

To be fair ML there were elements of yuppyism but as RR said it was mainly down south and never really took off here. Yuppy I seem to recall was something like young, urban professionals. Weren't too many of them at Raleigh or Players factories - you didn't miss much..1 point

Totongirl, there were no large mirrors on the lowbridge Atlanteans 395-400, as they were confined to the Clifton services via Trent Bridge which were conductor operated, so reversing was always done under guidance from the conductor. I regularly witnessed the 67s backing into Manor Farm Road from Green Lane, before pulling forward to the Langstrath Road terminal point.1 point

Yes, but they moved to Broad Marsh when the "new" bus station opened in the early seventies.1 point

Yes Fly after I posted I remembered that You said it was Linda. I was in the steak bar downstairs along with Cindy ( Spanish) and Jean and another girl who was the girlfriend of Calvo one of the waiters. Can't remember her name but will probably remember after I post. I was there from about'67 -69. Mrs Thut was the manageress, a very strict lady but lovely person. Cindy was quite a character, the unbelievable things she did at the end of the night to make the till tally, it made me very nervous so I would never do the till unless I was on my own.1 point

I used to train spot at Carrington Station from about 1960 to 1965. The gate by the shop (old station house) was invariably open so you could just walk in. We generally stayed on the higher ground behind the signal box and out of view of the signalman - so never got into trouble! My regret is I never took a camera - all the B1s, V2s, Jubilees, Royal Scots, Black 5s, O4s, 8Fs, Austerities and 9Fs....1 point

Found this, showing Carlton Square probably in the early 60s. The road directly behind the trolley bus is Burton Road, and the white building just visible to the left of the bus is the "Black's Head" pub.1 point
