  1. I've just recently retired and love it. After 40+ years of shift work, getting up at ungodly hours, trying to sleep during the day in heatwaves, working weekends, bank holidays and Christmas, it's wonderful having a regular rythmn to my day. I'm walking far more now, dog walking with my friend and doing my 10,000 steps a day everyday instead of just every now and then. How I found the time to go to work I don't know! And this has all been during lockdown, once we are free (if ever) I want to get involved far more in church activities and social life, can't wait.

  8. I think our nearest park and ride is still operating from the race course but it seems a bit pointless having to get out of the car, do your shopping and then carry it back to the ‘bus. As I’ve said, there’s absolutely nothing we would go into central Nottingham for these days. Most purchases can be bought from the surrounding ‘sheds’ so the farthest we need to go is Victoria Park at Netherfield or to the retail park in Newark. Morrison’s deliver weekly and a really good farm shop is 10 minutes away, Fiskerton village shop and post office is 5 minutes away. If we’re buying larger items like ca

  10. A bit boring I realise, but to us it's been a milestone. Taken our first trip to the shops in 13 months. Went into Waitrose in Lewes, as 'er indoors thought that now she has her government letter saying she can venture out, she'd give it a go. Have to admit, it was a bit daunting at first and seemed surreal mixing with other people. We had to search our way round as we'd forgot where things were and also the store had lots of changes due to Covid. Got home safely though and had our coffee outside, although it was very cold. Was apprehensive about Wroxham next Saturday, but now looking forward

  11. Exactly Margie. We have a bus every 3 or 4 minutes into and out of town right from the end of our road. Mind you, in the past year I’ve rarely got on a bus, if I need to go into town I walk. But don’t park on our road Phil, cluttering it up!

  14. Doubt very much if there’ll be anything I want or need in Debenhams this week so won’t be bothering. I feel the same about restaurants and pubs opening tomorrow ...... as much as I enjoy eating out, I don’t want to be queuing and then sitting outside for the pleasure. I’m at the hairdressers in the morning though, that’s something I can’t put off any longer as I’ve not been since beginning of December. My hairdresser popped round on Friday to give me a ‘patch test’ as I have colour on my hair. Apparently there’s a new directive ...... if one has had Covid or a Covid jab t

  15. I had a text msg this morning reminding me of my 2nd Pfizer jab at the Forest next Monday. My husband had his 2nd AZ jab yesterday at the Forest. He was in and out in 5 minutes, ignoring the instruction to sit down in the waiting area for 15 minutes.

  22. Those still working have to remember it's not easy being retired you know! No throwing in a sickie, no days off to bury grandma again, no sick pay or holidays - not even set hours for us poor souls. There is no discernible weekend, nothing but the unending grins grind of being retired 24/7.... One more thing, it's a lifelong job with no promotion prospects.

  23. Now I am retired, I am able to look after the youngest grandchildren even more, which is lovely. Also I have more time to visit (virtually and while going for walks) friends, one of whom is particularly vulnerable and needs a lot of support. I have more time to keep the garden looking nice although I do get more tired than I used to.... I have more time to help Paul with the work he does as church Secretary (which is a lot!!!!) and more time to prepare and lead 2 Bible Studies each week (via zoom at the moment) So I still do a lot of work but none of it is paid.... not that I’d a

  26. Well at least you can see the sea, did you go down "fish n; Chip" ally for your fish n chips or call at the Linger/longer. We had a friend who would aways call at the Linger/Longer every night, and he would say "if Fred serves me i can get down to the Ship pub, but if his missi's servers you get less chips as you only get to the garage on the corner just befor the ship. Must admitt missed bowling at Skeg this year.
