  3. I remember you joining Nottstalgia @benjamin1945 and being a tad stressed about your first serious health issue. You got through that one (and the next), you’ve had a tough few years but you’re still here to bring a smile to our faces. I’ve also found that there are some lovely supportive folk on here and have always been very appreciative of that.

Liked it so much I'm going back tomorrow and with that I will have completed 15 years sentence, er', I mean voluntary service. Get me a new certificate and award next month. I'll make sure I've washed me hands and face for that !

  9. Good to get up. and see sunshine. Out at 7am for first walk with Jj, just round the block for his ablutions. Breakfast and then about 9.30 the park for ball throwing. Went to the park I used to go on as a kid, just grass now all the equipment, swings, slide, seesaw, witchs hat thingy, bucking horse all gone now. Health and safety I presume. The groundskeepers hut and loos have gone as well. There are 2 goalposts set up for a football pitch which look a bit forlorn. Spent many happy hours there along with many scraped knees (very painful when done on asphalt especially when you got black bits

A bit later than usual but the Cuckoo arrived in full song this morning 06.45, nice to hear him in the bushes at the end of the field, the Pheasant is still parading around the field and my garden with his hens in tow, they visit us twice a day near the back door to mop up any spilt seed from the bird feeders, and the Hogs have cleared up another bowl of cat biscuits and drank most of the water, lovely time of the year, just waiting for the young Blue tits, Great tits and Robins lining up on the birch tree branches being fed by their parents, have a great day all Rog

  18. I loved Duane Eddy. His twangy guitar sound was such an important part of the early 1960s music scene especially to a budding guitarist like me. I was at Uni in Manchester (Salford to be precise) 1972/3 and used to listen to The Johnnie Walker show on Radio One on Wednesday afternoons when we had free time. He used Duane's “Because They're Young” as his theme music and it brings back happy memories when I hear it. I also love this one from 1975. RIP Duane Eddy a guitar legend.

(I thought he would have been much older) Famous for the golden twang guitar sound with well known hits such as Rebel Rouser, Because They're Young and the theme for Peter Gunn The soundtrack of my youth gets ever quieter and in his memory here is Rebel Rouser

  20. So Nuno and Neco Williams are being charged with bringing the game into disrepute. What about the referees and var officials whose performances have been little more than criminal? They are the ones who are bringing the game into disrepute. Football should take a long look at the way rugby matches are controlled by the referees and the third match officials (tmo). There is total clarity as the deliberations are on big screens for all to see and the decisions do not take an eternity. Plus the referees do not tolerate any pressure from the players, some of the prima donnas in the Premier league

Since loosing the sight in my left eye and being deaf it just feels too dangerous. Thinking of taking the bike up to Carsington to ride a circuit on the cycle path. Started to clear the old shed out today - 'found' all sorts of stuff! Don't make cider anymore so lots of plastic barrels, containers and crates to dispose of. Found all the parts for the rowing trike that I built (see avatar)...hmmm, maybe I should get that back on the road? Found lots of dead stuff to dispose o

  30. Lovely day yesterday, in the morning I gathered a load of tools ready to go and repair my brothers in law grass mower, he's been asking me for a few weeks now, I don't like repairing stuff away from home because you can bet your life there will always be something you've forgot to take that you will need (certain size spanner, or screwdriver etc) anyway after checking and double checking I decided right lets go, a quick phone call to let them know we were going and ,,,,,,"OH so and so is coming then we off out but you can still come if you want to", I don't think I will be repairing his mower

  31. There’s usually a wide variety of flowers including yellow rattle, buttercups and wild orchids. It’s been in the hands of my family since 1962. It was originally rented out to farmers and I remember mangel wurzles, cattle, wheat and potatoes. It was used as grazing for horses and ponies for many years but around 25 years ago we decided to keep it as a wildlife meadow, although, to stop it turning into scrub, we have the hay cut every year and a farmer cuts the hedge for us. All the plants are self set and there’s been no artificial fertiliser. The two far corners are left thick with brambles a

  37. Essentially Oz this is the purpose of the new mayor that no one wanted and has cost a projected £4 million just to elect. The main focus is to be: Skills. Transport Housing Net Zero Business support and has an investment fund of £38 million to play with. Much is being made of a figure of £1.5 billion - but whispering it's over 30 years. Sounds a lot like a Brexit promise to me. No one it seems is asking the question of why, why we need a new mayor for these things and why the hell were our councils not doing the same thi

I keep meticulous records of their performance and, over the years, I noticed that bonds from two lots out of the ten have won far more often than any of the others. I'm no mathematician but that does not look like random chance to me. However, they're doing nicely so I'm not complaining.

  39. On the subject of vehicles turning over, I remember my dad many years ago was driving his 20 tonner, taking a load of coal to a coalyard in Essex, ( near Braintree I think). Anyroad, he was travelling along the old A52 just past Bottesford, approaching a low railway bridge, (now gone) when he skidded on some black ice and slid into a ditch with the lorry tipping half its load into the adjoining field. It finished up at a 45° angle. When the recovery crew went to retrieve it the following day......Every bit of coal had disappeared overnight ! It made front page of N.E.P.

I’ve also been to Grangemouth when it was owned by BP Chemicals (now owned by Ineos). The trip to Grangemouth was an interesting day out. East Midlands to Glasgow, hire car to Grangemouth. A trip round the laboratories to discuss polymer technology followed by lunch. We then had a few hours to kill so we drove round the Trossachs, past Loch Lomond and back to Glasgow, picking up a haggis on the way, and then a flight back to EMA. Home in time for dinner! I wish I was back at wo

We also have a ‘Peak flow’ monitor to use at home which measures how quickly you can breathe out. Our scores aren’t too good and we’ve both been sent for CT scans but the results seem OK for our age. 49. I remember the barge traffic on the Trent during the 60’s. Trent Carriers used to advertise ‘Humber Ports to the Midlands’. There was a dock and a large warehouse at the bottom of Trent Lane. At one time Whittaker’s of Hull used to bring fuel from the Humber refineries up to Colwick. The river used to be dredged to accommodate the barges but that no longer happens and the river can be as shallow as 1 metre deep in places during the summer. I believe there are still some gravel barge’s operating on the tidal stretch below Cromwell lock.
