  1. Bike cleaning this morning in the shed, reggae music on the CD player, the sun is shining the birds are whistling what a beautiful day, the simplest things in life give the most pleasure, enjoy your day however you chose to spend it Rog
  2. One Sunday afternoon I went for a dam busting flight with a friend in his twin engined Piper Seminole. We approached the Ladybower dam at low level doing about 150mph. I was in the right hand front seat and the startled look on the face of the fisherman about to cast was a pleasure to behold. My friend died many years ago so he’s immune from prosecution!
  3. My first flight was in a Vickers Viscount from Bournemouth Hurn to Jersey 1961. My second flight was a pleasure flight in an Auster (it was in fact quite 'austere', noisy and bumpy) from a field near Skegness, 15 minutes north and south over the shoreline and back, quite an enjoyable experience. My first Jumbo flight was about 30 yr ago to San Francisco by British Airways. Interestingly from Heathrow we went not west to USA but north via Western Scotland then south of Iceland, past the tip of Greenland where, following the shortest route straight line being navigated on a globe, the trac
  4. An electric mower has completed my transition to all electric power cable-free garden tools. Great piece of kit, hold a lever, press a button and away it goes, it is self-propelled too and almost makes mowing the lawn a pleasure. It has a mulch plug, whatever that is, never used it, or a standard catcher. I get three full mows before a charge and if I forget it only takes 90 minutes for a full recharge.
  5. I never had the pleasure of going in a place like that. Is there a modern day equivalent ?
  6. I remember the large fresh lobsters and crabs we used to buy on the quayside in Oban to take back to the cottage. Preferably eaten with chips of course. Ive been going to Scotland for many years both for business and pleasure. Back in the sixties chips were the staple diet but civilisation has gradually crept northwards. I remember a crab salad in the fishing port of Campbelltown where the crab was out of a tin!
  7. You don't want to give credence to a corrupt honours system used cynically by people who should know better. Or do you? If you do then just buy one like lots of other folk. I used to work amongst a load of folk who took great pleasure in adding the various honours to their names when sending letters (and latterly e-mails). I had a special headed paper made for these individuals only on which was printed my name and after (KCB Declined).
  8. I’ve always had a fascination for canals but my only practical experience was a long weekend on the North Oxford about 25 years ago. A friend, who is approaching retirement, has a new build narrow boat under construction and I follow progress with interest. At my age I’ve decided that my boating days are over but I’ve had a lot of interesting experiences sailing in the Falmouth Bay Area and around the wild waters of the Hebrides. I take pleasure in doing scary things but it’s time I stopped!
  9. I know the feeling about 14p an hour, I've rebuilt many engines for a similar amount but it's not about the money it's how much enjoyment you get from seeing the finished article and the look of surprise/pleasure you see on the owners face Rog
  10. I see that George 'Johnny' Johnson , the last member of The Dambusters, has passed on, aged 101. Johnson was the Bomb Aimer in Joe McCarthy's crew. I've seen many documentaries involving Johnny and he was always a pleasure to listen to. He achieved the rank of Squadron Leader before leaving the RAF and then became a teacher, working in Newark . Brave man. He was only 21 when called upon to risk his life for his country doing a dangerous and unpleasant job but when it was over, he quietly made a new life for himself and got on with it. There's a lesson there for a whinger named H
  11. Recession, what recession? It was packed last night, shuffling room only & £7:50 a pint & that's if you've booked for the pleasure
  12. @Oztalgian: A pleasure to be of service, maybe the Christmas song ought to be on the Christmas music thread.
  13. A properly executed 'racing' change is a pleasure to perform. The last proper sports manual I had was a Lotus Elise 111S about six years ago. It was fun to take on a track day around the Cadwell Park circuit where the performance could be 'safely' exploited. With my increasing hip pain I had to exit it on my hands and knees which was a bit undignified so I sold it!
  14. Cripes I remember little from Training College Days the mantra you cite is good and it resonates with the work done by Sugata Mitra in New Dehli in the 90s they did extensive research in self-directed learning, in many places and through many cultures. Each time, the children were able to develop deep learning by teaching themselves. It was called Minimally Invasive Education (MIE) or the Hole in the Wall. I think the lecturer was right the best learning is through doing but our classrooms provide limited opportunities for doing many things. I look back on teaching and children lea
  15. Another great day today. No workout but I was at the nearby village at 8 to do the 'final fettle'. It was the cider making festival today and my press and scratter had to function correctly. Set them up yesterday but fine tuned, greased and oiled them this morning. Then off to the local private trout lake to meet a dozen or so members for a bbq and a bit of fishing on a boat. Back home at 4.30 for splash and dash before returning with Mrs PP to the cider making festival. 130 gallons produced so far and loads more apples to scrat and press. No modern or electric gismos - all human powered. No s

I first tried to get on Flight Radar but it was too busy so I then found another site, I think it was ‘Plane Finder’ and followed it from take-off and disappointingly going way west of Nottingham before turning towards Northants. A friend of ours took a photo of the plane going over his house in Northants. When Charles flew from Scotland to Northolt to receive Diana’s coffin from Paris we did see his plane going over our house in Hertfordshire. It’s a simple pleasure of mine, plane watching!
  17. I went to a funeral last Tuesday. A dear friend who, had she not shuffled off on 8th August, would have celebrated her 97th birthday today. She was very wildlife conscious. Spent a fortune feeding the birds, foxes, etc in her garden and since she was housebound the greatest pleasure of her days was watching them enjoy their food. The blackbirds were almost knocking on the door, demanding their sultanas with menaces. I will never forget the day she said there was a knock at the front door and there stood two little boys with something wrapped up in a towel. They wanted t
  18. For "Our Ben" They seek him here, they seek him there His clothes are loud, but never square It will make or break him so he's got to buy the best 'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion And when he does his little rounds 'Round the boutiques of Hucknall town Eagerly pursuing all the latest fads and trends 'Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion Oh, yes, he is (oh, yes he is) Oh, yes, he is (oh, yes he is) He thinks he is a flower to be looked at And when he pulls his frilly nylon panties right up tight He feels a dedicated follower of fashion
  19. When I went out this morning , I thought I’m in heaven. We had a storm last night and the temperature has dropped. It was a real pleasure to walk round the market although only veg and fruit stalls there. I told you in August the towns , villages and cities go into hibernation there’s no one around. Anyway hearing from a cousin in Sicily it’s 44 degrees in Palermo and here passing the local chemist we see that the temperature was 20 degrees. It’s not going to last unfortunately as the mercury is going back up where it was. It has been raining all day so far. We really need it as we all do but
  20. There's A1 M up north as well but predominantly two lane. Since our daughter moved out of London I've not had the pleasure (if pleasure it be) of driving the A1 any further south than Grantham. I hope I shall never visit London ever again - nor Nottingham unless I really have to!
  21. It was very scary Margie, it wasn’t just high winds because although it lasted a long time ( or seemed to ) there was a bit of quiet before it started again so I presume it was a tornado. Certainly there was a lot of damage done, coming back from hospital this morning there were lots of trees down and one warehouse roof was completely ripped off. Don’t want to go through that again. I’ve stopped watering my flowering plants and they’ve all dried up. But before we get a fine for using water I decided to forfeit the pleasure of beautiful flowers.
  22. Still there (St Matthias Rd). From their website: WELCOME TO ROSEHILL SCHOOL It is a pleasure to welcome you to Rosehill School, an outstanding special school for 115 pupils aged 4-19 living with Autism and a range of associated communication, social, sensory and learning differences. We are committed to and passionate about the learning and progress of our pupils.
  23. @MelissaJKellyit certainly is a wonderful, exciting time to be a Forest fan. I know a few people who made it to Wembley on Sunday, it would have been an unforgettable experience. Our neighbour and his 9 year old were there and there are still Forest scarves hanging from all their windows today. I watched yesterday’s celebrations on Notts TV but was listening to Radio Nottingham commentary. My husband is decrying my pleasure of the team’s promotion because he’s a life-long Fulham supporter! We’ll show ‘em hopefully.
  24. Apart from your 'Good Result'' Mary.......what a nightmare day.... Pretty well sums up life in the wider world today.......travel no longer a pleasure...whether by public transport or Car......
